Worst car alarm I have ever had. The design of their remote buttons is flawed. Without fail EVERY day my car either arms or disarms itself with my keys in my pocket. The buttons are too sensitive or not recessed enough and they activate on any movement such as sitting, bending over, or pulling my keys, or my phone out of my pocket. Twice I have set my car and walked away to find my car open on my return as they must've disarmed as I walked off (I have silent arming). I have never had any of my prior alarms or cars do this.

Not sure if these are the same guys, but I'm trying to review the AVS distributors. Long story short, a couple of years ago some alarm installation business installed an AVS alarm for me, with a 3 year warranty. But the siren had a fault a few months ago. That business no longer has the same business owner, the new owners don't care, and the old owner don't care. In the end, called up these guys and they replaced the faulty siren - no hassles no problem. Seriously awesome service, standing behind their products even when installation businesses are dodgy. Without doubt the next alarm to be installed will also be AVS, but this time I will ask these guys for their opinion to recommend a reliable installer. Thanks heaps Jason and Kyle. Really appreciated this, given me back my faith in AVS alarms.

I purchased an AVS A5 alarm from an online seller, upon arrival no wiring diagram was included so I emailed AVS customer support for one.

I made it clear I had already purchased the alarm, was going to be doing the installation myself as I am competent to, and as there are no installers in this area. I received the generic response which completely ignored points I had made. They also refused to supply me with one.

I thought I'd give one of the closest suppliers a call and honestly laughed when they stated $460 for the install, this on top of the $40 round trip.
So that's, $225 for the alarm, $460 for the install and $40 to drive to the closest installer. $725 total, what a joke.

If you're going to have a network of installers, pricing should be uniform, where as here, I promptly found some are charging in excess of $250 more than others for the exact same service.

So their alarms don't come supplied with wiring diagrams in a nefarious attempt to force the end user to pay inconsistent and in some cases, exorbitant installation prices from one of their agents. This is done under the guise of it being in the customers best interests. Well it's in my best interests to not get ripped off for an alarm installation. I'll also add, nothing was stated by this particular reseller that installation by one their approved agents was mandatory (according to AVS).

Even if it was, I purchased this item, I own it and I will do with it as I wish, and these guys actually actively attempt to stop that from happening. Wow, just wow.

I have now obtained a wiring diagram from a reseller, one who was decent enough to have actual customer support. I will be doing the install myself. I am glad I had this experience first so I can share it.

Never again will I buy an AVS product, and if anyone asks.

Can't praise AVS alarms enough, I've got one in my GTR and have had several attempted thefts and each time the immobiliser in the alarm has stopped them. I'm glad they don't give out install manuals to random people who buy cheap off TradeMe as if those f#@*%rs who had a go at my car had a wiring diagram for the alarm they probably would have been able to steal it.

Yeah I have the same problem, bought the alarm & can't install myself due to no installation info. Installers are difficult to find & cost of those capable is more than the cost of the alarm. Not impressed, can't recommend this brand & won't ever buy it again. Alarm is still in its box going to the tip.

Great friendly staff that know what they are talking about. Great to know their products are designed here in New Zealand for our cars and someone is there to help whenever needed. We choose to use AVS as their service is second to none and supporting a 100% New Zealand company like ourselves is even better/ AA+
