Basement Theatre reviews
50Kiwi improv, by kiwis for kiwis. A unique sense of humor. Basement is a gem that provides a unique venue, which seeks to enhance the atmosphere and performance.
The show was great as was the show area, but the small bar area and outside area was really bad for my claustrophia/social anxiety before and after the show. Also they didn't have pineapple juice
Love this mighty lil theatre with all my heart! Gorgeous, stunning, immaculate, no notes! May she keep powering Tāmaki Makaurau’s arts scene forever and ever. AMENE.
We love live reel! Great for a weeknight out with a group of friends. Definitely book in advance as the venue is quite small so seats are limited.
Love the inner city vibe. Always the best venue for fringe theatre. Most of all the intimacy shared with the actors in the smaller theatres makes the whole experience that much more real.
Great place tah chill after watching a show! Nice, friendly peeps at the bar and a great vibe!
Nice comedy theater with cheap parking right outside. There is a bar and you’re allowed to bring your drink into the theater, but the bar staff weren’t very friendly, I felt I was bothering them terribly just by buying a beer, and I didn’t even ask a single question.
The Wedding - Return Season at the Basement Theatre - Opening night was electric, explosive, action packed & full of surprises. LAUGH OUT LOUD was the order of the night - non stop. (We hope no birds were harmed in the production - but cant guarantee it) Opening night was full to the brim - and without a doubt the best show we've seen in a while. BOOK NOW - DONT MISS IT
Final night Saturday 18th
The staff? Perfect. The shows? Amazing. The drinks, the atmosphere and the location? Top notch. One of my top ten places in Tāmaki Makaurau. Also I saw a ghost in the studio theatre and now I'm cursed but in a good way.
Relaxed, creative space. Staff are masked, welcoming, and atrentive. They ask for audience to respect actors by masking but.the performers' health has overwhelmingly not been an audience concern on occasions I attended.
My first experience of amateur theatre in a tight intimate setting. Everyone was polite to the performers and rapt with the performance. I will definitely be coming back for other performances. Its great being so close to the act.
Oh Basement! You will forever and ever have my heart. The transformation this space has had in recent years. WOW. Basement is like no other space in Tāmaki. Protect this space at all costs.
Small but cute theatre. Have been to both the upstairs and downstairs theatres and they both have a good vibe. Upstairs is by far smaller and looks like a half converted loft space (which I guess it is). Bar is cool with an outside food trailer usually there to cater snacks. We were there to see Brendan Green (and guests) last time which was awesome:)
Excellent performances from talented local artists, the magnificent theatre and casual bar are perfect for all of your evening entertainment needs. Offers a yearly subscription for attending multiple shows a year and creates a community out of its audiences. A must-go for the true Auckland Central experience.
Thought provoking plays, challenging the mainstream. Nice, "alternative" vibe in a small, intimate setting, with a little bar for that after-show socializing.
Great venue for fringe theater with a bar on site and a dumpling truck out front. The bar serves a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks including cocktails. Toilets were clean and tidy.
Great place to be lost in. Many theatre rooms, atmosphere is funky and very entertaining. Melody Rachel was awesome very energetic and clever. Thank you Basement for continuing to support artists and their journey.
Basement is a space I have watched shows, performed for shows and attended numerous events! It’s a very cool space especially for the independent artist! It’s a safe, creative, cool and professional environment! The team is amazing!
Great venue and a cracking comedy show!
The wine tastes like pop mixed with vodka but stick to a beer and you’ll be fine.
