19Totally agree with other 1 star reviews. These guys' prices are not competitive, the occasional boxes are nothing inspiring. And if you switch to another provider after 4 years loyalty they'll still sting you $150. So yeah would never recommend them now.
Worse power company out! Customer service is rank as well.
Everything was so cheap and convenient for the first year of using their services and now I have left after a $357 bill - They hit me with a $479.33 bill. All these little charges are to make up for getting the black boxes! They aren’t for free, they have to make profit somehow! Rip offs
Terrible power company.sign up with anyone but these guys.the black boxes you get arent worth the over priced power bills.customer service is a joke. I've been a loyal customer for years.after finding out i was on the wrong plan I contacted them to change it.the person I spoke to was rude and uninterested. I informed them i was switching providers and gave my 30 days notice (which i didnt know was even a thing) apparently because i gave the notice it meant they couldnt adjust my plan so i was still being over charged.after 3 phone calls I thought it had been sorted but then recieved a final statement for a rediculous amount again as they tried charging me the early disconnection fee again.another 3 phone calls and heres hoping I never have any more dealings with this shady company.
Absolute garbage power company, my partner joined without me knowing as I gave her full authority to chose which power company we would join, we’ve been paying our bills on time and miss one month and all of a sudden the bill spikes to $500 And a disconnection, I decided to read over the bill and by god the prices are awful I would give zero stars if possible, apparently my partner only joined for the box every month which we haven’t even received for the past 5 months. 0/10 would not recommend this company to anyone utter rip off, 16cents per k/w almost 17 and we’re only a house of 3 2 adults 1 kidand somehow the usage is at almost 900kwh? Seems like rubbish and can’t even begin to mention the outrageous prices for what they call “delivery fees” 40-50 for these fees would be reasonable but somehow it’s almost the same price as our actual electricity bill should have joined nova or any other owned New Zealand company
Always check your bills thoroughly. Was over charged but got that sorted after a heated phonecall.
Worst company to deal with to assist their own customers to get an import/export meter when installing solar. After 2 months, still no assistance for arranging a import/export meter and their customer got a solar system they cannot use because no one at Black Box Power can assist or supply information required to arrange the meter to be changed. I know what I will do if I was a customer at Back Box Power, luckily I am not, but I do deal with customers daily and know now what to advice when coming across a Black Box Power customer, will just let them read the reviews and let them make their own choice of power retail provider!
Go to Electric Kiwi or Megatel, they're way friendlier and you'll save so much more money. Would give a zero if I could.

Very expensive, i was paying almost twice as much with them than with my current provider.
They also have a cheeky print on their t&c’s that you have to give 30 days notice before you move to another provider. Otherwise you have to pay a hefty $150.
So be careful.
Find someone else and save your money!
Love Blackbox Power. Great Company to deal with. Power is definately cheaper. But the Box of goodies were great the first year. But we received none last year. Silver membership is supposed to guarantee at least 1 per year. But that hasnt happened lately.disappointing.
When I joined years ago, they were the most competitive and cheapest power company. Average was $120 a month. Now it’s $170-$200 a month, the only usage is using my computer now that I work from home, surely that doesn’t cause a huge spike! I’ve noticed year on year the price gradually increasing. They got rid of any prompt payment discounts so which is why it is no longer cheap. The nail in the head was them charging me $130 for apparently tampering with the meter which was incorrect. The parent company Pulse is not great either, signing a contract up under my name without getting direct consent from me. I wouldn’t have agreed to sign a connection if I had to continuously pay to use your gas line if our new build wasn’t finished! Switching over to Genesis, they have a really good deal going on and more benefits. The occasional black boxes are not worth staying for!
Most expensive power company I have been with. We sold up and got stung with a $150 disconnect fee, never knew about that. But get it back should we go back. After receiving final bill, I will wear the $150 as I won’t be back. The bills have been higher since the 2 teenagers moved out, how does that work. So no, wouldn’t recommend. Can’t fault the ppl on the other end of the phone. It’s not their fault
We found the cost to be quite high, and decided to try a different company. We were then told that there was a $150 termination fee, which was included in the fine print even though we were not on a contract. We have talked to customer service and they have helped to agree a solution. We hope that others are made more aware of this termination charge in future.
Very expensive - incredibly odd. We changed addresses and my partner and I were living in a two bedroom in Grafton. In the summer months, we would be charged $270 although we'd been away half of the month and only use lights, the washing machine and the hot water cylinder which was heated electrically. We queried with them whether they were sure they had the right address and asked if someone could come out and check - their response was that yes, someone could come out, at our own cost. Ridiculous. Needles to say we terminated our contract with them. The customer service was terrible and so is their website. This is Pulse trading under BlackBoxPower.
I've been with Black Box Power for a couple years. The power is cheaper than the other companies I've been with; the customer service has been great on the couple occasions I needed to communicate with them; and the boxes of goodies are a welcome addition. Strongly recommend them.

Customer service is terrible, told me they have no contracts and charged me $150.00 early termination fee because I did not give them 30 days notice when leaving, talk about anti competitive. Suffice to say I tried to get it waived, they refused as per T's and C's so I told them it would cost them more that $150.00 hence this review.
When I organized to set up black box power, customer service was very good, I organized the power to go on the morning of my move to my new house and I was assured that it could go on at 9am. They got in contact with me at 10am the day of and told me I would get a phone call half an hour before the electrician turned up at my new house. I continued moving and by 5pm I still didnt have power. I rang up at about 6pm and talked to the faults team. The guy explained that the power had been turned on at 10am and I was confused as no one had been to my house or called me. He gave me the connection instructions which I apparently should have been given earlier. When I got home at 9pm with the rest of my stuff I followed the instructions I had been given but I still didnt have power. Turns out there had been a fault but no one told me. I had waited around all day for a phone call I had to store food in my friends fridge and freezer. I said multiple time that this is my 1st time setting this stuff up and I didnt even get any instructions. So now its 9am the next day I still dont have power, hopefully it gets sorted soon. ️
Still dont have power even though I rang up up at 8am! They said 4-6 hours and then forgot to lodge the job, so now I have to wait again!
Amazing power company. Glad we switched over from Contact, very understanding and will do what they can to help. Very happy.
Black Box Power used to be great at my old address; but then I moved and had 3 months of issues. However, things finally sorted and account cleared. 3 stars only as this should not have happened in the first place, and resolution could have been made quicker. However, it was resolved.
