We chose BCG to build us a home to retire into as they were happy to work with the quite detailed ideas and sketches that we had developed ourselves. They were also the company that was willing to work with various materials that are not yet in the mainstream in NZ, like vinyl weatherboards, PVC windows, synthetic decking. Being able to include a concrete floor upstairs within our budget was another deciding factor.
We were a little unfortunate to be building during the Covid pandemic and this surely contributed to the cost and time overruns that we experienced.
We've been in our home for about 4 months now and we absolutely love it. It's very warm, dry and quiet, whilst being bright and spacious as well. The fittings all appear to be good quality, and the floor and wall tiles really stand out for the excellent workmanship of the tiler. This will be our last home, the materials were chosen for longevity and low maintenance and I have no doubts that the building will remain sound and tidy for many decades.

We were looking for a builder to construct 2 new homes from plans that had been drafted by an architectural firm. The section requires subdivision into 3 Lots. Existing house stands in the middle of the section and needed minor renovation work, Lots 1 & 3 are the new home to be built. At the time of writing, both homes have passed the final inspection of Auckland Council; one on 3rd March and the other on 30th May 2022.
We spent time scouting around for potential building companies from the internet and from friends and also communicating with house owners whose houses were built by BCG. We finally narrowed down to BCG and made contact with them. We explained our expectations and sought pricing structure, process and timelines. Instead of just providing us with a written reply, they came back to us with a few key points and an invitation to meet the team. BCG were very approachable. They understood what we wanted. They were professional, competent, open and honest, and pricing was fair & reasonable and they showed us a couple of completed projects which made us feel all the more comfortable and confident to engage them.
Introductions were made to our appointed QS person Jennie Liu, manager Eric Lin and site manger Sean Yang – all of whom were outstanding in their ability to grasp our vision and present us with the right knowledge, products & materials and timeline for the builds. Furthermore, they had a sharp eye and attention to details. During the construction phase every aspect was done efficiently and effectively, and keeping us abreast of what was happening daily and an informative weekly review and preview. The site was kept impeccably clean throughout the entire project.
My house (Lot 3) was projected to be completed by end of November but because of the pandemic, it was completed 3 months later. I am not complaining. On the contrary, I have to give BCG the credit for pulling this off in overcoming all the challenges posed by the pandemic. From beginning to end, I have had good communication with Eric, Jennie and Sean. I am impressed by the good team work and good working relationship among BCG office staff as well as workers on the site. They showed respect to me and to their colleagues.
Clearly BCG staff take pride in what they are doing because we had very high expectations of which they were able to meet. They have given us exactly what we wanted. Nothing was ever too much, and communication channels were always open. We would definitely approach BCG again for future projects and we have already shown our new homes to friends who are also interested to build and we have highly recommended BCG.

I have been involved with a number of projects built by BCG. In a tricky environment they have built the projects in good time and to a high quality. I would be pleased to work with them in the future.

We were seeking a builder to construct new builds from plans that had been drafted by another architectural firm. The section we had needed to be subdivided into 3 Lots – front (Lot 1), middle (Lot 2), rear (Lot 3). Lot 2 had an existing home that required renovation work, Lots 1 and 3 were new home builds.

We spent time reviewing potential build companies and found a few sites nearby being built by BCG and were impressed with how the houses looked. We got in contact with them and they quickly set up a meeting and things moved very quickly from the initial meeting to getting them on board to working on the build.

I was impressed by the fact that their team is well resourced and they have the ability to do all aspects of the build including civil works which is important as it dictates the ability to better manage timelines.

After signing on with them they got to work immediately and worked at pace. They are solution focused and offered ideas and workarounds when things don't go to plan which is what is to be expected with a house build.

Our house (Lot 1) was a quality build with a lot of custom designs in the house, including a designer kitchen and bathroom, lots of materials and techniques that are normally not BCG's standard build and they handled it all really admirably. Here's the things that impressed me the most.

- They have amazing work ethic. Covid impacted timelines and supplies but the crew would work tirelessly to progress the build. Their crew would work after hours to get something finished and I would write to Sean our site manager on a weekend when I was inspecting the site and get a response the same day.
- They are responsive and communicative. All members of BCG and their team are really good to work with, I know that I can ask a question and team members like Jennie/Ai Win the QS will come back to me with a response. Extremely reassuring knowing that they are prioritising our needs.
- They have capable leadership in place. Eric was our home Team Leader and we could run all matters in a couple of meetings with him and he'd come up with solutions really quickly and they would get done.
- They are solution focused. The house we had often required them to do things which were non-standard, rather than saying no or being difficult they worked with us on a solution.
- They are very good value for money. Workmanship is high quality, being on site regulary I could see all aspects of the build not just the exterior. The framing and foundation were extremely solid and the little details like tiling, benchtops and cladding being done well reassures me that they care about the work they do.

End of the day the most important things in summary are
If I could go back in time and use them again would I do so? Yes
Would I use them in the future for new builds? Yes
Is there anything I recommend you do different? Yes but these are minor. A) If you are building using anything different material wise then make sure it's ordered much earlier than standard. Covid has significantly affected resource and materials so knowing in advance what you want will allow BCG to order and resource appropiately. We had unique materials like special bricks and countertops which were in short supply and delayed our build by weeks. Let BCG know if anything is unique and request they place the order in really early or let you know if a delay is coming wayyy ahead of when things are needed.
B) There are certain things that are very difficult/expensive to change once done so knowing what you want and having this planned will make it easier to have it done/adapt. A simple example is a levelled entry into a bathroom - a small oversight but once framing is in it cannot be easily done to a bathroom without an amendment to a building consent or significant changes to the structure. Get these things confirmed early!

Many thanks BCG, hope to work with you again in the future.

BCG have just completed a 6 unit townhouse development for me in Point England and I am extremely happy with the result. The build quality and finish is excellent and despite the challenges of COVID, the project finished on time and on budget.

The BCG team were great to work with throughout the project. The advice they gave me in the early planning and design phase was comprehensive and all the cost estimates and timeframes turned out to be very accurate. The communication from Jennie (Quantity Surveyor) and Allen (Project Manager) was always quick and clear, and I was never left waiting for answers to any questions that I had. BCG also seemed to have good relationships with the council and there was never any delays with the inspections.

All of the sub-trades that BCG work with were motivated and professional, and the coordination with engineers and the like was very precise which meant the whole project ran like clockwork. The variations that I asked for were accommodated without delay and usually for no, or minimal cost. The BCG project team knew their stuff and were very focused on the build quality and finish. Overall and the finished houses are exactly what I wanted and the project could not have gone better.

I cannot recommend BCG highly enough and I look forward to working with them again.

TDG Development Co.is proud to have to have partnered with BCG Construction on a seven-townhouse build in Te Atatu Peninsula. The project was completed ahead of schedule and the workmanship is absolutely the best we have seen in the NZ building industry. The project team including Jacob, project manager Eric and site manager Adrian and Sean are all very experienced and carry the highest standard of work and attention to detail.

We would not hesitate to recommend BCG Construction for small or large jobs and look forward to working with the team again in our next project.

A new build plus pool and spa can be relatively daunting for an eighty year old and adding the uncertainty of a global pandemic into the mix means anything could happen. However, Jacob Chen and his team at Brothers Construction Group headed by William Wang made the whole experience exciting and enjoyable. Living in the original house onsite gave us, three generations of women in one family, a grandstand view of daily progress. We saw first hand that construction was solid and true, with no compromises, and now that I have moved into The Pool House, I find that it meets every single expectation and I have never been happier.

We were keen for the new house to 'shake hands' with the 110 year old bungalow, to have the feel of a bespoke beach house, albeit a pool, and BCG worked closely to make sure that would happen. From the day we stood on the concrete backyard with their entire team, until the moment 7 months later when they presented us with the key to The Pool House, our ideas and requests were treated with respect and dignity. They took care of every detail, and there were many in terms of consultants and Council.

We would recommend Brothers Construction Group to anyone, especially if like us, they have had little experience in the building industry.

Thanks for making our vision a reality, Brothers!

Hi Jacob and Eric

I just wanted to express my thanks for the cracking job on Convoy Lane. It was great to go back there and see the tenants all settled and the grass grown and the homes looking great, solid and well constructed still.

Houses can look great when they are literally finished but sometimes, due to shoddy quality and workmanship, they look pretty poor in a short amount of time. I was impressed after my re-visit which I think is a testament to the great job you have done in their construction.

Thank you, Benjamin

BCG was recommended to my wife and I to build our first family house via our land sales agent. The initial few meetings with the team was jam packed full of information in regards to the process, design, construction, our requirements etc. Least to say it was information overload but in an exciting way. The first part of the construction was handled extremely professionally by the BCG architectural team, especially Tony who sent us an initial idea and completely changed everything everything to match our needs and wants for our home. They made the process seamless, intriguing and very exciting. The middle part of the build involved the construction process of our dream first house. The beginning of the construction was very exciting for us. The team was on point with timing initially even with COVID. This is the reason I haven't given this company 5 stars. Post lockdown 2, communication started declining between us the client and the site manager/team leader for our build. At certain points it felt like there was no movement in the build and things slows down. Updates were less informative as we had become accustomed to and work seemed to have decreased overtime. This is the only negative experience we had with this team but it's a big negative because it deal with Communication with the client. The last part of the build is where I decided to contact the owner, Jacob, of the business to express my concerns and frustrations of the build and that things needed to change. Guess what he changed everything around. He arrived early the next day with someone named Sean at the build and started immediately changing things and getting things back in line. It was a massive transformation to what we got used to vs what he himself expected to occur and apologized about how things were handled by the site managers. Sean was a bit of a God send. He picked up things that I would have had to point out initially to the previous site managers and he made the final part of the build so much more easier
Least to say Jacob Chen is what made this build a success ultimately. The beginning of the build was wonderful, the middle had hiccups but the ending result is what mattered the most and Jacob was able to pull it all together to create a wonderful family home for my family. Would I recommend BCG to my friends and family who are looking to build a house. Yes I would but with clauses. I would highly recommend Jacob Chen, owner/director of BCG, Tony Werner, Senior Architect, Ai Win Ong, Quantity Surveyor, Sean, BCG Team Member (Build Saver) and Sam Tang. These guys in the team are what saved this build and ultimately are the reason why I would recommend them to anyone. They would've have gotten 5 stars from me without the communication issues but I think this business is on the up with the people I've mentioned spearheading the company. Thank you BCG it has been an experience building with your team and we look forward to seeing how much you grow as a team and we look forward to being in our house for a long time.

BCG did an amazing job building our house. It was stressful not knowing what to do and what we needed to do next but staff from BCG supported and guided us every step of the way. Allen as our site manager did his job beautifully and professionally with help from Eric. Jacob was always ready to listen to us and give us guidance. It was an excellent experience for us with BCG.

From estimate to job completion everything was done just right! This company exceeded my expectations. My restaurant looks amazing! All of the staff (including office team) were prompt, worked efficiently and with a lot of patience explaining different options, pricings, pros/cons of using some materials, etc. I am impressed with the professionalism and depth of knowledge/experience the guys from BCG have. They had many good ideas and made sure I was fully satisfied with the job. All done very well and with the highests standards. Highly recommended! Many thanks!

I was being recommended by my friend to BCG Construction Ltd for my house deck and internal access double garage project. I am very satisfied and happy with all aspects of the work done covering the quality, professionalism, value for money and efficient team work from consultation, design input and project construction execution with excellent completion result.

I further commit another major project with BCG Construction Ltd to design and build a new two storey dwelling, including four bedrooms, three bathrooms, kitchen and double garage due to commence on September, 2020.

For those of you who are wanting to develop your land, I do not hesitate to recommend BCG Construction Ltd to you because you can be assured that you will be very well looked after by BCG from beginning till end of project with complete satisfaction as I have been.

Our new build was completed in time despite the public holidays. They are really fast and the PM Eric and Site Manager Allen was really good and easy to deal with. They do their best and always give the pros and cons of any suggestions or changes that we were thinking of.
One of our friends engaged another company to build an almost similar size house at the same time when ours started and they were many months behind.
BCG and their subbies even work on weekends. Very professional and on budget too.
Overall BCG is up there among the best.
We have recommended BCG to friends who have successfully engaged them and have similar thoughts we have had.
Best regards,
Russell & family

We have used BCG for a number of jobs over the last 5 years - last year we engaged BCG for a renovation of a 1940 Stacco house. This included reconfiguring the internal layout, construction of two new decks and replacing the roof. The job was completed to the quoted fee, the project management and site management was excellent - we were kept informed through the whole process and the guys on the job were great to deal with. The quality and finish was first class - we have done 10 large builds and renovations over the years and this was by far the best experience we have had with a builder - we are happy to recommend BCG for any building or renovation jobs.

BCGNZ was very professional in their business dealings. We needed our house to be renovated. As their team was experienced in renovations, we decided to use Evan's team to get approvals and project manage the works. The results were fantastic with good communication and honest advice. Thanks and will definitely use again and refer to friends and family!

The quality and finishes of our home is exceptional. The finer details have been completed with such craftsman like precision. I have seen housing construction throughout 25 years of my career and I can confidently say the attention to detail is up there with the best.
I thoroughly recommend Brothers Construction Group.

Update:
We settled before the Disputes Tribunal hearing. BCG admitted their fault and agreed to refund us part of the money so I withdrew the application.
They also said that the project manager who looked after our renovation has left the company.

They work with cowboys and don't take responsibility for the work. We had to apply to disputes tribunal (hearing coming up in March).

You hire a big professional company and a project manager (PM) thinking that they will take the stress of a renovation off of you, that they have the skills and connections, but this renovation has been one of the most stressful periods of my life.

For a tiny kitchen, bathroom and laundry they had 5 weeks to finish, reasonable timeframe as agreed by them, and out of these five, the last 4 weeks we were oversees.
The PM promised he'll update us and send us photos while we were away. He has never informed me about anything without me asking him first, and he has never sent one photo.
My brother went there every weekend and sent me pictures and week after week the situation was more worrying. Every time the PM was saying that they'll finish before we come back.
After the FOURTH WEEK we still didn't have gib on the walls because the whole project was held back by the plumber not showing up and there were so many days when there was no work on the house.

We had to airbnb for another week until we could move back home and there were still bits and pieces that needed to be fixed or finished.

The PM's attitude didn't help with our frustration either as his replies where in the lines of "I don't understand where this is coming from", "I don't control the sub-tradies", "I offered to deduct your $500 accommodation from the $34K invoice, what else do you want? ", "We'll try to come sometime this week", "The plumber was a joke" and "I was too kind when I answered your call on a Saturday outside working hours" when I had called to tell him that the drain in the laundry was not up to code.

Although the place was greatly improved, the work on the kitchen hardwood floor was very unsatisfactory, there were gaps between newly installed planks, big enough to see the insulation under the house; the two wall mounted taps were not symmetrical (8cm difference!) on the vanity and also scratched; the brand new bath tub was scratched before we even got to use it; the toilet bowl was dirty with PVC pipe glue, and they left marks and scratches in the hardwood floor (the newly refurbished one and the rest of the house).

I was promised a different plumber for the kitchen, but the same guy showed up.
Considering the plumber's attitude and quality of work, we started doubting that he was even licences so we asked BCG for all tradies and sub-tradies licences and also a warranty certificate for the work they had conducted. I was told it was standard procedure with the company, but it took more than 3 months and dozens of emails exchanged to receive the paperwork.
We have also asked for a $5000 discount for the unsatisfactory work and although they had admitted their fault, they didn't agree on the amount and insisted to repair the damage themselves. Because we didn't trust them and because we weren't willing to start another renovation, we ended up applying to the disputes tribunal.

When we finally received the warranty certificate (after applying to DP) they told us that the wet area in the shower had not been waterproofed and that the tiler can't guarantee the work.
Also, the rest of the warranty was for 12 months when under Builders Act we should be covered for 10 years.

So now we're waiting for the Disputes Tribunal hearing in March.

Based on how they handled this project and the situation we ended up in, I would qualify BCG as cowboys and I would recommend anyone to avoid working with them.

Recommend BCG Painters. Brian and his team were recommended to me and they were absolutely fabulous. We got our whole interior painted. Professional, accurate, covered all our furniture and went above and beyond to ensure satisfaction. Their price was great too and they fitted in with our dates. Couldn't recommend more highly for a great job done well.
