Applied for a rental that Century 21 Edwards was offering. There was something funny and they were not 100% honest with us. After 2 weeks we supposedly got approved and they tried talking us into taking it at that stage.

Would not deal with this agency to rent, buy or to rent out.

Looking at all the reviews, it seems like they are great for rental property owners but I can assure that it's not the case for tenants. I rented with this agency more than 3 years ago in Cocklebay area when I was new to New Zealand. It was a small 2 bedroom flat for $480/week. Charged me $480 letting fee + $20 for credit check (none of the rental agencies ever charged me this). Within the first week of moving in, the cooking plate stopped working and it took this agency 3-4 weeks to get it fixed (not sure about the exact timeline). We had to eat from takeaways for 3 weeks. The rental property had no insulation or heating equipment and I developed lung infection because of heavy condensation in the crawling space and the resulting black mold. Since I was new to the country, I had assumed that it was the standard of housing in NewZealand. They had me in a 1 year fixed term lease so I could not leave before the term-end. They charged me $50 admin fee just to get my wife's name on the lease which was required by the Immigration NZ. Later, I found a 3 bedroom house for $530 a week in the same area with HRV, heat pump and a huge lawn and I knew I was taken for a ride for the last 1 year.

The property had ADSL broadband connection and when I applied for fibre broadband, I was asked to withdraw my application because the landlord did not want any digging in their lawn. I am pretty sure that the property was advertised as "fibre available" on Trademe. I was suggested to go to library to use high speed broadband connection (laughable). Yeah, I still laugh at this suggestion.

Inspite of leaving the property in a very neat and tidy state, we were charged $270 as cleaning fee which I agreed to because I just wanted to move out of the property and get my remaining bond money back. Well that was not easy either. They kept saying that it was being processed etc etc and after repeated reminders, I was told that they were busy and had not filed the bond refund form. Probably trying to suck more money out but failed in the end and gave up. Overall a nightmare experience with these people.

I have been with 2 more agencies after them (now my own house) and they all have been so professional and reasonable.

Vicki and the team at C21 are fantastic. I am confident any of my concerns and requests are dealt with as best they can, in a very timely and efficient manner. Very professional, responsive and I feel as a tenant I am truly cared about - which is not always the case when dealing with the landlord directly. Couldn't speak more highly of Vicki and the team. Would recommend to all!

Stay away from them please. My wife and I rented an apartment for one year when we went to work in New Zealand as doctors and academics. They never provided a service. Every time I asked for repairs they just put the cheapest possible quality after endless calls. They called me twice in the middle of work to demand unpaid rent (subsequently clear it was their mistake because the rent was on a direct debit). We went to a holiday in Australia and the manager kept harassing us asking to know why have we left the house without telling them (obviously they thought we walked away, without realizing they were dealing with two people with high education and manners). We left the rent in December and they still have not returned the deposit, initially arguing we broke a door but they never sent us details. They are simply taking advantage that, luckily, we are back to the UK now and cannot pursue the legal avenue (they told me I was needing to attend a court in New Zealand if I want my deposit). Stay away. Look for another agent. Rogue landlords are a serious problem in New Zealand, ours was a master of them. They will always defend the landlord and never the tenant. Stay away. PS: I see that the landlord of this property has now decided to boost to the world about his academic credentials (by the way, I don't know how he came to the conclusion my wife and I have been nice with him; polite, yes, but we never accepted his insistent and out of place invitations to have tea with them. We are very selective about our contacts, and he was not in our list).
Facts: It's almost two months now that I have paid for the hole in the wardrobe, and never got my deposit refunded. Even simpler facts: both the agent and the landlord do not have any intention to refund the money back, and we lost 2000 NZD.
I am not running back to NZ because of this, and have to accept I lost my money. Fair enough (in their eyes).
With regards to the landlord's good wishes: we don't need them.

Vicki and her team at C21 are the most efficient, professional and hard-working property managers. Even the owners Annette and Colin helps with getting rid of the oil spill on your rental driveway! I've been with the team for more than 15 years and they manage my investment properties conscientiously. My friends and family's are also with Vicki and everyone is absolutely happy and gratified with her level of work.
