Dear Coasties

Food is below average. Ordered big breakfast/Korean chicken burger. Disappointed with both of them.

The Kai was beautiful, a little bit pricy but yum. They were short staffed the day we went by the women that served us was cool.

Just called in as driving by had a lovely lunch sitting inside, but very concerned about the sparrows flying around and sitting on wire up above where you sit and having bird droppings going onto the table and just missing out plates.
For that reason we won't go back there.

Amazing food, beautiful location, and decent pricing.

EDIT/UPDATE: Like others have mentioned, Dear Coasties have dropped the ball recently in regards to food quality. It tasted bland, and they also removed the rosti from the dish but kept the same price as before! Quite disappointing.

As did many other places, looks like this place also updated their menu with fewer options and cheaper ingredients choices.
Is so sad to see places once were so good, now become low-average.

I went there a while ago and had really good experience of the service and food. That's why I went back today. However I wasn't lucky today, the experience and the food was horrible. The waiter (I do think he needs to be properly trained) took my order (Lemon Peper Calamari) without asking whether I would like to have fries or salad. I was tired and didn't read the menu carefully either, so I thought I would have both fries and salad in the meal. When the meal was served, I asked why there wasn't any salad. The waitress (She was nice and smiling) asked me whether I chose the fries. I explained that the waiter didn't ask my preference and I thought the meal included both. Then the waitress said she would bring me salad. By the way the fries were not nice. They were very salty and hard. After around 5 mins, s small plate of salad was brought to me. It was not fresh looking at all. Anyway, when I made the payment, I noticed that there was extra $5 charge for the salad. The waiter who took my order served me at the payment. I explained to him again that he didn't ask my preference when taking the order, but he insisted that it was my mistake. He still charged me extra on the salad. It was he who chose the fries for me without asking my preference. Otherwise, I would choose salad instead of fries. He didn't even apologize to me. It was really bad experience there. I won't go back again!

Very pleasant surprise when they added in a free brownie with each coffee that we bought. What a nice lockdown treat.:)

Woke up this morning feeling dusty. When I didn’t even drink last night and that is what I call miserable.

Coffee here brighten up my day.

Taste 15/10 perfect temperature, nice & creamy

One of my favorite places to eat on the coast. The coffee is great and the food is not only gorgeous but delicious. Fabulous place to meet up with your mates!

This cafe has become a victim of its own success.

I see all the good reviews and note that it is popular, but find it hard to see why.

I went with 3 others for brunch on a Sunday morning.
It was packed. They were having trouble getting the coffees made and the food orders arrived first even though the coffees had been ordered 20 minutes earlier. One coffee came in a takeaway cup as they said they had no mugs available!
The food was okay, but not amazing, the coffees were average, and the wait staff indifferent.
Paying was slow as well as there is only one point to pay, and a long line of people waiting to either order or pay.

Hospitality is a simple business - treat the customers well and give them an enjoyable experience. They are the ones paying the bills.

Don't be greedy. Have fewer tables, turn away "drop in" coffee only patrons, and provide the paying booked guest with the service he is paying for.

Nice food, quick friendly service. Was very busy when we went so a little noisy!

Wow, what a fantastic find. Best cafe I have ever been in anywhere in NZ. The good is exceptional, all staff are so relaxed and friendly.

Loved it this time. Can get crowded and noisy. Obviously due to its popularity. Good food and coffee. Excellent, attentive service.

This place is busy, popular, but run remarkably efficiently. Food came out very quickly and was of a high standard. Staff very welcoming and attentive. Keen to go back soon.

Very disappointing lunch and very expensive. I half serving of eggs Benedict consisted of one half of a muffin one egg and hardly any hollandaise and nothing else. On previous visits a half serving came with apple and other garnishes. Looked very plain and cost $14. For half a muffin and one egg the price was excessive. Also the wellness bowl was $27 with salmon. Far dearer than any Auckland prices. Service was very bad. Had to ask 3 times and wait 25 minutes just to get the table wiped and had to get out own menus. It wasn't that busy so not much excuse. The girl who took our orders was polite and the other dishes we had were nice but the prices were high for the amount of food. This place had been recommended and two people at the lunch had been before and were really disappointed this time. We won't be going back.

First time visiting Dear Coasties and would highly recommend this place. The selection of food is amazing and the quality is of very high standard.

Always great coffee, food and service. Sometime feel like they pack too many tables into the space so not enough room to move around.

They do everything right. From the manager who makes sure everyone is welcome and served in time, to wait staff who are most attentive, to food and drinks, that are absolutely delicious. They go out of their way to make everything beautiful. Best6 cafe ever.

Really busy, but really well run. Table found, food amazing. Good coffee. Be prepared to wait if you have a bigger party, but the wait is worth it. Really nice staff. Great spot.

This cafe was buzzing. Went with a family gathering of 8 for brunch. Great service even though it was packed, we got our food and coffee very quickly and we all enjoyed what we got. Can highly recommended this cafe. Staff very friendly and made sure we were all happy.
