22 Fantastic to see the Dutch continued in Birkenhead. Great hosts, great food! Real warm dutch hospitality with a smile and lots of enthusiasm.
Home made Kaas souffles are recommended, and a Fristi (of course) and a copy of Coffee News
Great food and good coffee. We had the big breakfast made vegetarian; everything on my plate was delish. I was impressed by the fact the vegetarian option was very well made. We also some poffertjes, even my fussy toddler approved of the poffertjes. Will be back!
When you walk into the bistro, you can see all the little details of NL they put into the decorations. Chef came out to had a little chat with us which was really appreciated.
The food was super, enjoyed every bite of it. Service was good. Definitely coming back again. Thanks chef for the delicious food.

We are not local, but have been to DIT many times as it has become a bit of a favourite when we are in the area. I absolutely love the food, chef Tom gets to know his customers and often does ‘special’ dishes which are quite the treat! I love that my dog is welcome too, and there is always a different card game on the table encouraging us as a family to engage and have a bit of fun over our meal. Couldn’t recommend this place more!
We decided to dine at this restaurant to celebrate my daughter's birthday, based on its positive reviews, and we were not disappointed. The decor was simple yet cosy, the establishment was clean, and the antique cutlery and plates added nice vintage touches.
We were warmly welcomed by Tom, the Chef, at the table, and served by a young man and woman at different intervals. All three of them were lovely, attentive, and detail-oriented. The service was great, and the dishes were served with a lot of attention to detail.
All the food we ordered was amazing, including the squid and a tasting platter with a selection of entrees, which was a delightful surprise. We loved everything, particularly the Beef tartar, which was an explosion of flavour.
For mains, we ordered the Lamb with mashed potatoes, cheese fondue, flank steak, and glazed pork belly, and everything was perfect.
The desserts, including strawberries with mascarpone and chocolate, apple crumble, and Dutch pancakes, were all super tasty and well-presented. The hot chocolate was also yummy.
They brought a dessert made with strawberries and "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate for my daughter's birthday. It was a thoughtful detail that we appreciated.
The portions were adequate, neither too much nor too little. Finding a restaurant in Auckland with a unique cuisine was a breath of fresh air.
We wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant. The only thing we don't understand is why the place wasn't full on a Saturday evening. It's a real shame, as they truly deserve to be successful. Perhaps it was due to the bad weather.
Wonderful attentive staff.
Super tasty Dutch cuisine.
Very homely meals packed full of flavour. Value for money. Will be back for sure!
Our first visit to what turned out to be a hidden gem in the centre of bustling Birkenhead, Auckland.
The special on the Sunday we stopped by - I was informed by the extremely friendly waiting staff member, that the menu options are refreshed every couple of weeks - was pork bites in a ginger glaze, with peanut sauce and pineapple.
We ordered the special, along with a side of fries, to share. The other dishes were of course, Dutch inspired and options were plentiful.
The excellent service made the lunch all the more enjoyable and when the dish came out, not only was the presentation something you would usually only see in a much higher-priced eatery, but a first bite revealed a true taste sensation.
We were informed that this dish had an Indo flavoured influence. The chef checked in with all the diners mid-way through lunch to check if everything was ok. Yes it was, a nice touch by this establishment.
Dessert was tempting, but the special had filled us adequately and we went on our way.
Card games on each table added to the atmosphere and also some crocheted blankets to keep patrons warm on those colder Auckland days. There were also Dutch to English translations on the walls.
Without a doubt, we will be back to explore this place and all it has to offer.
I took my Sister here for an early breakfast last week, the food was really good and I love their Eggs Benny! Would becoming back in the future!
Had the most tastiest food (that I didn’t have to cook) in a long time. As an ex Chef I felt spoilt having such a lovely meal on our dinner date. We have tried out quite a few restaurants and with quite “sophisticated taste buds” this little restaurant nailed it on Flavour, loved the presentation for this little Dutch restaurant and absolutely warm staff. The chef himself came to meet and greet us and looked after each of is patrons in between cooking. They were pretty busy and the only chef himself, I think they deserve a full 5 stars️. We had the double Dutch fries as well (not in photo) with their signature sauce the Dutch curry ketchup, mayo and finely chopped onion. A must try restaurant. Just had to buy the ketchup. Thank you DIT ️️️️️
DIT is a true gem! The atmosphere is both cozy and elegant making it perfect for any occasion. But the real star here is the squid dish tender flavorful and simply irresistible. If you're in search of a delightful dining experience look no further.
Always a wonderful place to take a moment with a beautiful lunch and wonderfully friendly staff
We went there for a quick dinner on Friday night and we absolutely loved it. Nice atmosphere, sincere service and over all good food. This place will most like become my lunch spot during work lunch breaks.
Surprisingly Dutch. Real Dutch food options, Dutch table games, nice decor, Heineken on tap. Friendly service. Quite happy to find Chicken & Mushroom Ragout too! Semi would have been nice to see Boerenkool or Stamppot as vegan options but granted, doubt Kiwi’s would flock to a dish like those haha.
But was very happy to finally find a real Dutch menu with Dutch cuisine rather than kiwinised options and snacks only. True dining gem.
The exceptional partnership of Tom and Tracy at Dit, a Dutch restaurant, brings an unparalleled blend of charm, expertise, and passion to the entire dining experience. As both owners and the driving forces behind the restaurant, their combined efforts create a symphony of hospitality and culinary brilliance that is truly unmatched.
Tom's multifaceted role as both a talented chef and a gracious presence at the front of the house adds a unique and engaging dimension to the dining journey. His culinary creations, such as the BBQ beef cheek burger and glazed pork belly, showcase his mastery of flavours and techniques. Moreover, his personal interactions with guests exemplify genuine warmth and attentiveness, elevating the overall experience.
Tracy's hospitable nature and meticulous attention to detail ensure that every guest feels like an honored friend. Her role in curating the overall atmosphere of Dit is undeniable, adding an extra layer of comfort and authenticity to every visit.
One standout highlight from our dining experience was the BBQ beef cheek burger, a true gem from the specials menu. The succulent beef cheek, complemented by the rich flavors of pale ale cheese, created a symphony of tastes that left an indelible impression. This dish deserves a permanent spot on the main menu, a sentiment I'm sure many patrons would wholeheartedly endorse.
Together, Tom and Tracy craft an exquisite fusion of culinary artistry and heartfelt hospitality, staying true to the essence of Dutch cuisine. Their shared dedication to delivering an exceptional dining journey is palpable in every interaction, every dish, and every aspect of the restaurant. Dining at Dit is not just about relishing delectable food; it's about being embraced by the warmth and dedication of this exceptional duo, making each visit an unforgettable memory to be cherished.
Another fantastic dinner at DIT! The food was incredible - the lamb shoulder stoof was especially fantastic. They also had a Chicken schnitzel special which was delicious. One of the best restaurants on the North Shore!
Took my wife to the Dutch Bistro for her birthday with the family. Can only say, and we love our food, the meal was spectacular and special. Thank you for the lovely evening, we are so lucky that Birkenhead has gained another super talented chef.
I had lunch here today. My first visit to this place. Excellent coffee and nice food. I'll definitely come back. The owners are really friendly too.
One of the best pork belly dishes I have ever had. Accompanied by sourkraut and duck fat roast potatoes.
The DoubleDutch fries with mayonnaise and peanutsauce are fabulous too!
On a cold and rainy Thursday evening, my wife and I tried out DIT for a dinner date and thoroughly enjoyed our meals! You are often spoilt for choice in Birkenhead, but imo Dit is a great part of the the bouquet of flavours out here.
The hachee and lekkerbekje were delicious and the friendliness we received from the owners is always a welcome part of the experience. Give them a go, highly recommended:)
Super clean, lovely atmosphere. I only grabbed a great quick coffee, but will organise a lunch soon.
