Was easy to talk too about my particular vehicle and general related stuff. So I now have peace of mind knowing it was in good hands.

Darren test drove my car and offered superb advice on how to deal with a relatively little used but shot gear box. He was generous with his time and knowledge. Fortunately the car maker agreed to replace the gearbox but if they hadn’t, without question I would have asked Darren to do the work. Thank you for your service.

Did my sons car for him Darren us an Honest chap Reasonable prices cheaper than the others quoted and went the extra mile trying to find parts for me that had nothing to do with the transmission My son called me and said he was blown away how awesome his cars running now.

Thanks so much to Darren who with great perseverance managed to find a replacement gearbox for my very rare Micra Convertible 5 speed manual which would have gone to the crusher if he had not gone the extra mile. Got the car back in a spotless condition and driving sweetly now

I have tried multiple mechanics in East Auckland but he is the best I have experienced for service and cost.

Took in my Dodge Journey when the gear box died and Darren was genuinely helpful and bent over backwards to ensure the repair was timely, even at a time when sourcing parts was really difficult.

Darren is the man to see. I took my 2010 Toyota Camry in to have a transmission service done. The job was done in a very efficient time frame, he was great to chat to and went out of his way to check a couple of concerns I felt wasn't right. I had a wee knock in the back of the car when I accelerated, easy fix, he had found one of the exhaust hangers had come off. So great to work with, I came here for a second opinion after I was quoted $3,500 to fix my transmission. After diagnostics received from first gear boxes they advised it wasn’t the transmission and something else which saved me a lot of money and time. Great response time and overall good work received. Highly recommend

I do not recommend Darren for his car servicing compared to other thorough mechanics that specialise in servicing. I paid a high price just for an oil change / filter with no description/checklist of what was checked - all what was given was a verbal “it drives well” I know my car very well and what is wrong with it and Darren didn’t mention anything after the car service. A few months down the track I find out my clutch is gone and my radiator is leaking.

Done a transmission flush on my Holden Commodore. Job is of good quality and service was good. Only really disappointing thing was, my car is performance car and I mentioned to Darren not to accelerate to much to high rpm, which was not needed for road test anyway, as my car needed to be re-tuned, so to drive at lower rpm's, as my car can suffer damage to my engine internally. He was honest though he told me, but that's free fun for someone else and the cost is on me.

What was looking like an expensive job, turned out to be much cheaper. Darren carried out an assessment of the transmission which was sorted out quickly and at a great price. Highly recommended!

After shopping around places for a gearbox rebuild on my Integra Type R, I decided on First Gearboxes as they sounded the most genuine and friendliest over the phone.

It was exactly the right choice, Darren was an absolute pleasure to deal with under all aspects. Genuine and professional in his work, And happy to work around my budget. Honest, professional and absolutely genuine mechanic. After 15 months travelling NZ with my camper I have seen a lot of mechanics in many different parts of the country. However, Darren stands out in a very positive way.
