Galbraith's Alehouse reviews
68 Delightful pub in the heart of Auckland with ornate architecture and great layout! We went on a busy, rainy Sunday afternoon and the atmosphere was family-friendly, staff were polite and engaging and the food was great (for a reasonable price). Would definitely return again and I’m disappointed I didn’t get any photos to share.
On a side note, they clearly label GF options and staff were happy to provide feedback - great.
Roast was nice, pints were grand but I'll never be back thanks to the miserable little barman you have working there. He actually started an argument with us at our table of 8. His manner from the second we walked in was an excuse for hospitality. Staff like him will lose customers. Never again.
One of my favourite places in Auckland. Reminds me of London pubs and always has a great atmosphere. I little pricey, but you get what you pay for, which is always satisfying.
The Sunday roast was good but unfortunately very rude staff. Our group of 6 was treated awfully by one staff member (may be the manager). Started arguing with us over a light being dimmed. Asking us if we had a problem, he actually got very confrontational. It was extremely unprofessional.
Roast on a Sunday - who wants a Sunday roast. Took me a minute to find a place that does a Sunday roast in the CBD (that didn't cost an arm and a leg) and lo and behold I found one! It did the trick and looking forward to trying the rest of the menu. Speedy service and great heritage building.
First time here, went on a Saturday night. Parked in adjacent car park free of charge - just had to give licence plate number at bar. We sat in a quieter section near the toilets. 3 out of 4 of us really enjoyed our meals. Food wasn't served at same time - mine in particular came out quite a bit earlier, so started without my friends. Was disappointed to see the meal I had in mind from the menu online wasn't on the menu there. When queried I was told "we haven't got around to updating our online menu yet". About time they did? Lack of good vegetarian options. Spotted the grumpy barman others have mentioned in previous reviews straight away. It appears he doesn't know how to smile, poor man! Beer garden outside was wonderful. Spacious with plenty of covered seating, and so lovely to sit by the fireplace.
Great selection of beers. Good new beer garden out the back, some of it covered. Good old school big pie. The crowd looks like where the train spotters go when the station is closed.
Food was grand, pints were good but the service was shocking. The bar man in particular was miserable from the minute we walked in. It's a shame because it is a nice pub, but I won't be back.
Its great to find somewhere in Auckland that does cask ales. It may not be everyones taste but really when you can enjoy a real beer in a great place, its hard to beat. Food is great, great service, and great beers.
Great ale house with a good range of hand pulled pints. The beer garden has had a decent upgrade and looks brilliant. The perfect place to have a drink and relax on a sunny day.
Prices are good and staff are friendly. Highly recommend.
Nice place to stop by for a pint or two and grabbing a few food items. They have beers they brew themselves as well as guest taps which rotate. Order food and drinks at the bar and find a free table.
They do have a few parking spots in the carpark next door, just make sure to get a ticket from the bar if you find a spot. The place is fairly big with an outdoor area. It does get quite loud though especially if it's full.
The food is quite nice but a bit on the pricy side. The triple fried chips are the usual go to.
Loved it here. Home brewed beers, reasonably priced. Friendly staff and the locals were very welcoming. Had food here as well, which was great. A good, varied menu and very quick service.
Rude and entitled staff, had the feeling we were all very lucky to have the fortune to be served by them. Stopped serving at 10 pm on a Saturday night. No last call to anyone in our group but abruptly told "double tap on the triangle means no more drinks". Beer was good but the attitude from behind the bar made that largely irrelevant. Fortunately we were able to find another bar that appreciated our business over the road.
Great service and selection of beers and ales, warm environment with old school English pub interior.
Great atmosphere and nice beers and food but the rude bar staff ruined our sunny Saturday afternoon. We have been coming here every now and then for the past 6 years and this guy has always been unpleasant. Not saying sorry for his mistake, he rolled his eyes instead. It would have been a much more enjoyable experience otherwise.
This is the old Mt Eden Library building with a lot of character.
For years now it's been a brewery of ales with lots of character and a place for a good meal.
Try it. You'll enjoy it.
The original temple of beer pilgrimage, the vanguard of the New Zealand Craft Beer Enlightenment. The epicenter, fount, well spring and navel of the Auckland beer scene.
Go pay obeisance to the classic trinity of Bell Ringers Bitter, the Bitter and Twisted and Bob's Porter.
This ancient building of classic aspect, the former Grafton public library, has been, phoenix-like, reborn to educate generations of beer drinkers to the joys of beer existing beyond the limited grasp of fizzy tasteless lagers.
Great beer and food, amazing staff that are always friendly. On top of all that there is the Gin Bar out in the Garden area which is a awesome place to spend a sunny day.
Why would you want to go anywhere else?
I've always liked this place, old world character, with old world beers and new world beers. Great food and as I discovered a new lawn bar. Galbraith's just got better.
Lovely food, very prompt service. Apparently they have discontinued their sauces so be sure to bring your own.no horse radish, mustard etc.waiter told us they discontinued sauces because no one wanted sauce with roast
