Hokkaido Restaurant & Bar reviews
65Not really authentic and the food is very average. Our Katsu curry was a little overpowered by curry powder. The tempura batter doesn't look out taste like Japanese tempura batter.
We frequent this place few years back and visited again last weekend after a long while. The servings seem to have reduced big time. We ordered more than our usual as we have missed this place but surprisingly wasnt feeling satisfied (portion wise). The taste is consistently good, however, not good enough for the price you are paying. I love their Beef Tataki. The rice seem to be sitting in an oven for a while as the top part is hard! The pork katsu is dry, thin and over cooked. We left a little bit disappointed.
Not fair for me to comment i didn't like the food but i wanted to try the culture it just wasn't for me but other people might like it.
The plates were very small. The food did not have any flavour. Very disappointed especially given how pricey it was. I would not recommend this restaurant nor be returning. They don't have ramen.
We arrived a little early but the staff let us sit inside anyway, everyone was very friendly. Food came out quick and tasted amazing. 10/10
Cobwebs on the corner where we were situated. Some orders were forgotten and they only started cooking after we reminded them half an hour into it. Food portions are too little for its price.
Great place, great food!
The Udon hot pot and the sashimi are highly recommended!
Should be informed, that they close between 2.30-5.30pm.
We and kids love it here, the Japanese small portions / side dishes is a tad expensive, but the quality remains consistent. Mains are fresh, desserts are yum. We come here quite often whether with or without our kids.
One of the best general japaneee restaurants in Auckland. Very fesh and well prepared sashimi, in fact everything we had was good. Service was excellent, you can see why it's so busy.
There are also some tables with an amazing view out over stonefields, so it's worth booking ahead for them.
Great food, wonderful service and very easy to read (pictures of food) menu. Only thing is no sound buffering, so have to pretty much yell to person opposite side of my table.
Great service and food, Sophia runs the place most efficiently, the staff are always helpfull and sincere. I've been coming to Hokkaido as a regular customer since they have first opened. They always do a great job. And the food is great
I found that the flavors were a bit bland, and that the rice was stiff rather then sticky.
Came back after a year in another country. I admire the consistent quality that the current chefs have maintained. The prawn fried rice remains identically priced and tastes excellently as I remember it. The mixed sushi continues to be superb. The miso salmon was well cooked. Very happy. Would come back again for good quality Japanese food in an accessible location.
Average. Very small portion. Looks different from the photos on the menu. Last dish came after we are finished with the meal. It was too late. They insisted on us having it. Not a good experience. Wait staff were not attentive.
Food is amazing.served in small portions (super Japanese way). The oysters were great. And not too pricey, just right.
Hokkaido is the furthest thing from authentic Japanese cuisine. Almost all items on the menu are frozen and overpriced. We could tell that the servers were trying, but the service is mediocre at best. Whoever decided to take Hokkaido in the direction it is headed towards has no idea what the restaurant should be.
The mini hot pot is genuinely delicious, but it was difficult to enjoy it with the awful odor from the spray all the way from the bathroom.
Good location with ample parking. Food portion were small. The young male server is not welcoming and rude.
It was my first experience in the restaurant. Overall is not that bad but the fish saba we ordered was too salty.
I paid $22 I think for the sashimi don. With that price, I kinda expect more fish variety or bigger portion. Slightly disappointed with size. However, flavor is there, kids really enjoyed it.
