Journal Cafe

With a hungry toddler in tow trying to find somewhere to eat I decided to pop into here for the first time.

No idea I had to have a table first it seemed? But was assigned one to sit at. Ordered Chicken Chips and Salad for my baby and Buttermilk Chicken on slaw for myself. Total of $31.

Appreciated the coloring in pencils and water being given with bubs being in plastic (working in the industry i know how many glasses kids can break!). However wasn't given the option for a water bottle/carafe so only had the small glass of water.

Meals came out and to be honest could of been almost identical. The salad on the kids meal was just shredded cabbage; not really a salad persay. Chicken was cut with the grain so wasnt easy for my little one to eat fully. And the slaw on the buttermilk chicken was the same just shredded cabbage. A very sweet dish due to the combo of three sauces. Probably doesn't need the sweet Chilli sauce on it when there is a heavy soy sugar base sauce on the bottom covering the cabbage. Feel the slaw could of had more potential to it.

Bathroom has a change table in the accessible toilet which is great for parents. Was clean and tidy though and staff reasonably friendly.

My daughter always comes here so she wanted to have Christmas brunch together. It was my first time visiting and had a lovely meal with great service
Cabinet menu has lots of variety and snack menu from the actual menu had great portion!

I’ve been going to journal ever since it’s opened nearly every morning. The food is great and the original staff members were so kind and amazing. Ever since all the staff has changed the service is not great. The coffee & matcha is my go to. Lately it has been tasting like pure milk. I ordered some cabinet food and asked for it to be heated up. Yes they heated it up but it was still cold. The staff now are not welcoming or as sweet as the previous staff members. It does not feel as comforting and a great atmosphere as before.

Reccomended by the brO️One of mii boys birthdays, ordered a few dishes which were greatcoffee cud have been hotter but was on point 4 flavor (mocha), ordered one ea of the 14 slices in the cabinet just to try n gift to the bOys

I am so disappointed with my visit at Journal cafe. Today I had brunch with my friend to catch up and was expecting a nice delicious meal but was handed a very effortless made plate of food.

I was shocked because last year when I came here to eat the food was absolutely stunning and tasted amazing but the french toast was tastless and the journal breakfast was not even that good.

For the price that we paid I am dissatisfied and won't be coming back. The first picture is how journals food used to look like and the second pjoto is ehat the good looks like now.the second photo the french toast was basically slapped onto the plate and looks very bland and did not taste good at all

I love going to Journal. The staff are so friendly, welcoming and accommodating, the food is delicious (and comes out very fast too), and the atmosphere is really great. Would highly recommend coming here.

Have come here a few times and the food is really good - reasonably priced and good variety. The cabinet food is also really good too! Staff are friendly too. Kid-friendly with high chairs and colouring pages & pencils for the kids to enjoy.

Great taste, great staff and worth for price.

Indoor and outdoor sitting makes the ambiance beautiful.
Ampules of parking with very easy access from all the sides of the cafe.
Have ordered eggs on toast and chicken burger and was yum.
Especially, the chicken burger was really great; I can say it was made with love and obviously with skills.

Just a request to the cafe if they can have five grain bread as an option to ciabatta.

There barista is also skilful as the coffee ️ was great too.

Definitely recommended to everyone.

There restrooms are clean too.

My husband and I went in last Saturday morning, however it was extremely busy and the lady at the checkout told us rudely that there are no tables available.
Then a beautiful girl (sorry I don’t remember your name) with a smile who had purple streaks on her hair assisted us, recommended sitting outside as tables were free or giving our number so she could contact us as soon as one of the tables was available inside.
I just want the owner of this cafe to know that she is a valuable asset to your cafe. Well done to the lovely lady for such an optimistic attitude and dedication!:)

Great coffee, ordered eggs bene with mushrooms. Delicious. Also recommend omelette with jalapenos.

The first time I visited here and i was impressed by the taste of food and sauces. A staff having the purple hair made me impressed too with her good service and attitude. Definitely coming back.

Not one to usually review places but the service and experience is shocking

First time I went, I was advised to take a seat she would serve myself and my mother shortly. After 15mins (we were the only customers) we left the cafe

Today I went in for a takeaway coffee and was advised table service only. When I tried to order the server walked away from the counter

Very underrated place hidden behind the shopping mall for coffee or just to chillax with friends/family. Friendly staff too!

Nice cafe outside the mall doors next to the movies. Nice food and coffee. Seemed to be popular with the locals.

My Garden Omelette was absolutely perfect, I highly recommend it. The Cafe also has a different practice to some other cafes the staff check if the food is good.

Nice and airy as it's located just outside the back fringe of Ormiston Mall beside their rear carpark.

Great place will definitely be returning the staff are so kind and the food is delicious! I would recommend the fried chicken bene and the salmon and prawn pasta

The first time today we wanted to try this place out for lunch. Loved it! The atmosphere was cozy and friendly, it was clean, and their hospitality and food were on point it's my husband's birthday and he was very satisfied which was the cherry on top.

Top quality food and service, definitely one of the best in eastern subs. Even the kids menu had a very fair amount of food, very impressed!

Overly loud table behind us allowed to make more noise than a construction site, as for the food the bacon hard and tasteless the toast horrid - never again
