Kawau Bay Kitchen

We had a lovely evening at Kawau Bay Kitchen last night. The cocktails were top notch, the espresso martini was the best I have had in a very long time. All of the food was cooked to perfection, the lamb rump was a highlight. We will be back!

Second time we have been - with friends and children - and they have looked after us beautifully! Cocktails tonight were fabulous - loved the fish and risotto - great night all round!

I was just walking along looking at someplace for a Sunday Breakfast and Coffee.was not disappointed, I was greeted with smiles, served a wonderful Oat Mocha, and had a really yummy Bacon eggs Benedict. The poached eggs were perfect. I would definitely recommend supporting this little cafe restaurant. I'll be back.

Where do I start? Such a fantastic local eatery. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough! Very talented Chefs, lovely service, and beautiful location right on the Ōrewa beach front. Don't miss this local gem!

Professor McFussy and I found a table al fresco in the sunshine. Nice spot to pass the time of day. We had perused the menu outside the establishment and our orders were taken almost immediately upon seating. I have no idea of the time taken between order and delivery but the wait was not arduous. The meals were delicious and very tasty. I particularly like the flame grill flavour of the bacon. McFussy commented that the sausage was pale (not enough cramelisation) but tasty with interesting flavours. They were busy, coffee followed the food. We were warned that the barista was coping with an influx so our expectations were only heightened. The Professor loved her McFussy coffee but my "long black" lost one point because the crema had all but disappeared when served. It hit the spot otherwise. Hopefully an outlier event. The staff were busy but attentive to their customers. An excellent dining experience.

A fanatic lunch and treat, so nice to have a restaurant like this on the coast for a special occasion! Awesome staff and delicious food! We will be back x x x

It was. OK. I was very pleased to see that there was a vegan lunch-onwards menu and would have loved to have seen more than one vegan option on the breakfast menu, but I got over it, got the spicy tofu scramble and loved it.

Service was alright. While I was fairly well looked after, I noticed folk that weren't being served and had to keep asking for things (water, cutlery, menus).

I also took another star away because of the toilet situation. Guys.what is going on there!? While the front of house is clean and modern looking, the unisex, shared toilets with Tasca whereby you have to walk through and view the back of the Tasca kitchen and through a dirty alcove is just not pleasant, at all.

The floor was all wet and zero love was given to this area of the business. Some air freshener or nice soap even, would have helped soften the grossness of that area.

Best service. Massive portions with fish and chips, also Delicious! All the meals we've had here [scones on Saturday included] have been outstanding.

Wonderful atmosphere, great drinks, and very good food. It's my favorite local place to grab food and a drink.

This may be the best steak I have ever eaten. So yum! Really good service too. Friendly, down to earth and the food came out nice and quick.

So, so good. Their new summer menu was outstanding. Everything we ordered was cooked beautifully. Delicious. Excellent service, divine cocktails, and superb wines. Highly recommend.

My wife and I had possibly our best ever dining experience at Kawau Bay Kitchen a few weeks back. You may not get the portion size you expect, but the symphony of flavours in the food easily resolves any concern. The service was impeccable from every one of the team, and they even managed to work out a veeery tasty non-alcoholic Cosmo for us. My wife's also a big fan of sticky date pudding and the Kawau sticky date is the best I've ever had, hands down. Thanks so much! Hope to be back again soon.

Staff are lovely and friendly.
Our drinks order was mixed up but we bought the extra drink anyways.
Disappointed with meals that were served in compared to price and other cafes. Very basic and fairly small. Had to send Hash Browns back as they were not very edible at all, well overcooked.
$20 for 4 Small piklets is overpriced. My son has never been able to finish Pancakes for simular or cheaper prices anywhere else. He demolished them and was still hungry. Lovely setting though.

Fantastic Service and delicious new menu, hard to choose. Loved the wines - fabulous knowledge. The chillie/lime Margaritas are a fav.
Definitely top restaurant in Orewa.

Lovely staff and nice spot but I had inedible oily hashbrowns and very very vinegary poached eggs
Breads and oil/balsamic a bit overpriced.
Drinks and remaining food good.

Excellent friendly warm welcome. Fast service, beautiful fresh ingredients, good portion sizes, not too big, just enough. Lovely warm plates to keep food a good temperature and aromatic flavorsome coffee. Just the best!

But,
When busy as there's only one
Chef ‍ food took a long time to come out.

We ordered the pumpking Ravioli and the Risotto dishes
Sadly they ran out of pumpkin Ravioli and the chef split one order into two so we got 4 pieces each
When I questioned the waitress if this was an entre size? The owner came out and apologised. The chef was embarrassed.
So if they had told us from the start we would gave happily ordered something else off the menue.

The owner went out of her way to rectify this.
We took a second chance and had breakfast there too was very good too.

It was nice of her.
We were tired after an 8.5 hr drive to Orewa so just wanted a nice quick meal.
So in reality the food is amazing

What a beautiful place to dine in. My husband and 2 girls enjoyed the ambiance atmosphere in this restaurant. Very attentive friendly staff and the meal was tasty and divine. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing, enjoyable tasty meal with a great customer service. It's worth the money we paid for a family of 4. Portion of the meals was on point.not too small and not too overly plated. The pumpkin ravioli and the pork belly starter is flavorsome and rich. I recommend this dishes. We would definitely go back there. Thank you for a wonderful experience and especially the chef.
