We do not reside in Auckland and were finding it difficult to find a local craftsman who could restore and lighten our oak dining suite. This furniture has been in the family almost 90 years so it has great sentimental value to us. We searched online for someone who could help us and found Tom in Auckland. We sent our table and 6 chairs down for him to work on and were absolutely thrilled with the outcome. Tom is highly skilled, reliable and reasonably priced. He kept in touch with us and sent photographs throughout the whole process. It was so exciting when they arrived back home. Tom has a valuable skill and we highly recommend him. After a disastous flood our house was flooded throughout and as its 2 storey and the leak upstairs water poured through the light fittings our beautiful furniture purchased in the USA was badly damaged. Our intricately inlaid dining table was taken and the insureres decided to have it "repaired" the butchers sanded it then painted it with a dark brown stain! It was ruined I searched NZ for a repairere not acce[tong what theyd done. I found the quiet humble craftsman Tom Kimata he had it 3 week and in that time at an incredibly reasonable price under $3000.00 he restored it better than new I was gob smacked it has 7 coats of clear lacquer on it and the insert details are all back and even better. If you want the best in NZ this humble kind respectful man will restore wooden furniture better than anyone I can find.
