Stardome Observatory & Planetarium reviews
74 Went to Pink Floyd show which was really good. Some of the lights were quite blinding as they were pointed directly at us but it didn't happen too often.
Update: lights no longer pointed toward crowd so show was amazing! Lots of changes since last time I was there.
A wonderful place to visit and enjoy a bit of learning. As a visitor from the northern hemisphere it's exciting to learn about the stars we never get to see.
Wonderfully curated and easy to navigate, add in that the park surrounding the building really allows you to soak in what you've just experienced and really appreciate the speck of dust we inhabit.
Highly recommended paying extra for the 45mins long movie session. The setup is very similar to the one in Wellington. Overall our family had a very good experience plus there is an outdoor park and playground. Perfect having picnic and bqq.
Last night I took my daughter and her partner to the Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon 50th anniversary stardome show. What a great experience. We had time to kill before the show and there was no shortage of very interesting displays and information available to keep us entertained. The Stardome staff were all wonderful and friendly and very helpful. As for the show, it was an absolute Knock out! We were totally mesmerised for the full 43min duration. I will be keeping an eye out for future shows and activities at the Stardome.
Really well put together information. It's clearly been kept up to date and has lovely interactive bits for kids.
Excellent. For adults and children.
Presented as well as it was at my last visit. 50yrs ago
Fantastic place to take the kids and see everything in under 2 hours combined with a lovely track up to maungakiekie…great shows lovely staff
Had an amazing and very reasonably priced experience in the dome. Kids really enjoyed it but wouldn't recommend for kids under 8 who can't sit still for at least a half hour. Todd is extremely knowledgeable. Insightful for all ages.
Amazing experience! 10/10
Loved the knowledge our guide had! And sorry to hear about the old telescope
Definitely coming back!
I think we are so lucky to have this in Auckland! The staff are informative & entertaining. The programs are amazing. I've been twice now and the first time was not as good for me as I love hearing & learning the Maori language but required the English names as well (sorry) & they weren't given then. This time both were supplied and Mel 's enthusiasm and knowledge made me want to learn more. I will return & I will recommend this place. Thank you.
Lots of levers didn't work in the museum. We went to the 4PM "Looking Up" holiday special and according to the website it should be, I quote "followed by one of our live science demos - either indoors, or a rocket launch outside if the weather is clear! " So you can imagine the big disappointment my 4 kids had to go through when the man just simply said this was for the day-shows only, and not this late in the afternoon. Get your website sorted please to avoid this.we drove all the way from Whangaparaoa, not worth it!
The Stardome should be a must do experience for every citizen and visitor, young and old, of Aotearoa-New Zealand. The huge wealth of knowledge of staff and in the displays and items of interest there, make the effort well worth-while. I learned so much about my own NZ culture there, both Pakeha and Maori, so I felt very valued as an indigenous citizen here.
Always ring well in advance, and check with staff if any schools are going to be onsite during the time you intend to visit, as you don't want to be trying to negotiate human traffic jams while visiting.
I think this far exceeded expectations
Because of the guys working there
I had booked for a family
Somehow wrong dates
They sorted it so painlessly
Quickly
Smoothly
Professionally
Seems they are an on to it slick bunch
The show high tech
Presenter excellent
Well worth the little it cost to get in
Will be back to say thanks to the team
And try a different show
Thank you
We visited the Observatory twice in a week, because it was very interesting. We learned a lot, the guys are very smart, kind and competent! Amazing! Definetely recommended:)
Good ol' Stardome at the Cornwall park for Aucklands' children. Only wish if it were a little bit bigger and more things to explore. Shows its age now.but a must experience for children in Auckland.

Hi Stardome,
The show was ok, but so noisy. The host did nothing to engage with the kids to get their attention (and silence). On top of it, the volume of the movie was too low.
Seats facing the front when images are projected through the whole dome makes the experience uncomfrotable as you need to move in your seat to be able to see what goes on at the back.
Loved it going back to all shows for sure saw the storey of rangi and papa and matariki and the constalations and going to space and looking back at earth x past the milky way and when we look back at earth it is s a must does
Went to the 50 minute show about the stars. The young men speaking had a very nice voice kept it interesting, he talked not to fast and was engaged by the children asking questions. Overall good service and clean environment.
Edit: This is not the first time this man has humiliated myself and my partner regarding questions about space science. Saturday morning was the last straw and I will not be discussing further and I will not be returning. Terrible, humiliating and demeaning experience from that man.
Really rude british man at the desk talking down to other staff and being rudely and inappropriately sarcastic to us, just because we didn't know much about how telescopes work! As a place that promotes space science knowledge for the public, I am unimpressed that your staff member wanted to make me feel so embarrassed to the point where I will not return. Really very disappointed!
