Sullivan Plumbing and Gas

A couple of weeks ago, we upgraded our gas meter and the technician alerted us to a gas leak. Due to procedural constraints, he couldn't investigate further and had to shut off our gas supply, leaving us without the ability to use the cooktop or have hot showers until a registered gas fitter could locate and repair the leak. After encountering reluctance from several registered gas fitters to address the issue on a Friday afternoon, we were fortunate to have Ryan from Sullivan Plumbing and Gas Ltd step in within just an hour. Ryan displayed expertise, a high level of professionalism and a friendly demeanor, especially towards our child. He systematically and patiently identified and repaired the gas leak within a couple of hours. The other gas fitters either didn't answer my calles or could only attend to the leak on the following Monday. Our gratitude extends to Ryan for his willingness to promptly respond to our urgent situation, efficiently resolve the problem, and invoice us a very reasonable amount for the service provided. We are more than willing to engage Sullivan Plumbing and Gas Ltd for any future needs and happy to recommend their services to our friends and family members.

Chris arrived just after 8 am as expected. He was to see whether the new toilet we had chosen but not bought, could replace the existing dated one. He quickly assessed the situation and by 1 pm, he had purchased the new toilet for us, removed the old toilet, installed the new one and left the bathroom neat and tidy. Well above expectations!

Installed a Rinnai Infinity 26, replacing 20 year old Infinity 24. Prompt and professional team. Debbie was knowledgeable and helpful from my initial enquiry. Clear and detailed quotation. Installed in less than a week. Good tidy job by good bloke installer. Highly recommended. Thanks Sullivan's.

Come here if you want to be ripped off, not happy with these plumber who refuse to quote and overcharge for both materials and labour - charging for an excess of both which were not used on the project

They came on the next convenient day, on time and provided an electrician who came on the same day as the instillation. Tidy workmanship. We're very pleased.

1.3 HOURS LATE, NO COMMUNICATION THEY WOULD BE LATE - To start the booking was for 10: 30am, this wasn't ideal for me as I had to take the day of work so I could meet the gasfitter but I had organized a few other things that afternoon to make it worthwhile, I waited until 11: 30am and then messaged Deborah to try see what was going on, she said he would be an hour and then arrived 2 hours later. There is a note that this booked time can vary a bit but they main point here is if this had had been communicated properly with prior notice that they would be late say 30 mins before they arrived that would have been fine but the fact that my time was not valued and I lost a days work and had to cancel other arrangements that afternoon really frustrates me.

2. CHARGED FOR HOURS NOT DONE AND ITEMS NOT EVEN USED IN THE INSTALL - Was charged for two lengths of copper pipe instead of one, double the number copper saddles and extra fittings, Was also charged originally for 2.5 hours when the correct charge was 1.5 as I timed the entire job duration on my phone. Deborah did remove all of these extra materials charged from the invoice and correct the time charged but it is worth noting as it shows the average person getting billed who may not recognize these extra materials may at times be being overcharged

3. CHARGE EXCESSIVE MARK-UPS ON MATERIALS - Now I didn't take the time to price check every item on the invoice but I know for a fact I was charged for 10x the number of screws used at a price higher than they should be, $144 for a regulator (BBQ hose type) you can purchase for $30-50 most places amongst other things which looked to have similar mark-ups. This would be justified if I could confirm these were just "high quality" branded items (as this is not evident from what is installed) but when questioned Deborah refused to supply receipts for these items or explain what mark-up they apply to materials. As the hourly charge is definitely above average for plumbers and gasfitters I have dealt with it doesn't feel great to be rinsed on the material mark-ups too.

I have dealt with other plumbers and gasfitters very recently for other projects, have done several minor dwellings and 6 full renovations in the last couple of years and I'd like to think have a fair idea of what a reasonable cost and procedure is, as well as having an idea as to the current cost of fittings and fixtures

Workmanship looks to be good (other than not sealing the wall penetration) and was happy with Ryan once he made it to site but this doesn't excuse the above points and is hence why I have rated this way

I emailed Deborah mentioning I will likely review them and still was not completely happy and she didn't appear to want to address any of my points further

We have used the Sullivan plumbing team now for a number of job including most recently post flood. Always fast to fox the problem and easy to deal with. Really thankful for the great job and same day service

Deborah is very friendly and helpful. Ryan the plumber who attended the job is awesome and very competent. He does not muck around and gets the problem fixed in less than half a hour from the time he arrived on site to the time he left. Chris came back a second time because there was very little water coming through the new tap he had installed. There was a mains regulator which Chris removed, and then all was well!
Then the water heating cylinder started to leak. Ben came and looked at the situation. He put me in touch with Anthony from Good Builders, to fix the water damage - they'll be here tomorrow!
