Szimpla Gastro Bar

I am on holiday from the UK and have enjoyed some serious wonderful fish and chips from both the fish and chip shops and in pubs/restaurants. But here I think I had my worst experience ever. They came on a wooden board wrapped in paper. There were far to many chips for a single meal compared to the amount of fish. The salad was placed on top of the fish which was placed on top of the chips. By the time it had arrived to my table everything had sweated to the point of being quite disgusting. But worse still, the batter was hugely thick compared to the extra small amount of fish inside and by the time I’d received it rubbery and soft. The result a truly horrible meal. To add insult to injury it was nearly twice as expensive as any of my previous meals.

Did not have the best experience. The restaurant was almost empty, I asked for the 4-cheese-pizza as takeaway (was staying at the Ibis nextdoors) ; took about 30min to get the food, the pizza is a sort of flatbread which would be fine but it was just so moist, the cheese on it had no taste at all.but what bothered me the most was the lack of kindness from the waiters, they all looked so annoyed and were mostly chatting with eachother and ignoring me

Nice place to eat if your staying at the ibis next door. Food was lovely, staff were nice but not very attentive had to find someone each time we wanted a drink or order desserts etc.lovely vibe

Delicious menu, very friendly staff and good location right next to the Airport. Ice cold beers went down a treat.

Visited during an overnight stay at the Ibis at Auckland Airport. Service - first class. Prompt, attentive, courteous. Food - standard fare, but well presented and really tasty. Ambience - a mix of covered outdoor tables, high tables and larger standard tables to cater to all group sizes and events. Good range of wines and beers (the Tuatara is my new fave)

We celebrated my mother in laws birthday last night. The service and food was soooo good 10/10. Great staff, very welcoming & top service. We plan on many more enjoyable moments here.

After waiting a considerable amount of time in a busy line to be served at the bar with 2 staff on, we moved up the line to order our drinks, to be told by a really rude female staff member, we had to go back in line and wait our turn. It seems only one person was taking orders, and the other was mixing the drinks. There was no clear indication whatsoever that this was the protocol for this establishment, so after this very confusing and embarrassing moment we walked out, never to return again as we were just visiting the region for one night only. So much for the welcoming and friendly hospitality!

Food was pricey for what we received the gingerale was more like tonic water probably wouldn't go there again

Nice cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. The chicken burger was alright, if a bit overpriced. The real issue is their flatbread, which is basically pizza toppings on a tortilla wrap. Not what you'd expect in a restaurant.

Airport trap. Nothing else around for a captive market. Very expensive for very average food.

The place was quiet when arrived but I felt like I stood by the door for ages waiting for attention while barman and waitress were in deep conversation a few feet away. Same thing once seated; as a "senior "lone" female traveller I felt invisible and a quite awkward, Once I eventually had the waitress's attention things improved rapidly; great service. Drink and meal arrived promptly, followed by a Cream Brulee and Irish coffee that were absolutely spot-on.so all is forgiven.

Surprisingly good fish and chips for a pub attached to an Ibis hotel.

If you are in the area and fancy pub grub dinner, you won't go far wrong.

Shocking to see how this place has gone down. Food atrocious, service terrible with bad mannered waitresse's who didn't want to be there

Service was excellent, the waiter that was looking after us was full of energy and she kept checking to see if we needed anything more.

…they over promised and under delivered and not an apology was received. They are liars and didn’t honour a deliverable they had sold us on from the start. Spent over $5000 for what? There was no service, had to ask for cups, we cleared our own tables for the next course and the food was averaged and wasn’t worth the money spent.my guests waited well over half hour for a waiter to order drinks and ended up going to the bar themselves and was rudely told by a male bartender to go find the waiter and place their orders through them. There were only 2 waiters working on the night trying to accommodate my 40 guests and the rest of the other guests at the restaurant. I booked my function months in advanced had 2 follow meetings with them to ensure everything discussed goes to plan on the night but this male chauvinist of a manager walked away and calling over his shoulder that nothing was communicated to him by the other manger who I spoke with and did my planning with. Wasted time, wasted money! Never recommend this place to anyone

Love the food and vibe but one waiter was very unprofessional with waiting customers. If you’re understaffed don’t be pushing all your stress out on the customers. Do better next time!

Best place to kill the time near airport while you are waiting for your flight.

Menu was nice. We had Chardonnay and garlic bread for dinner. Service was pretty quick and staff was courteous and attentive.

As a worker in hospitality the service is terrible, words with the owner were incredibly rude and practically told us to f off. Wouldn’t let us book a table, if negative stars were possible they would be getting them. Stay away.

I got a steak, cooked perfectly to medium, an egg and swapped my hips for mash potatoes. A beautiful meal, there was no greens though, not even coleslaw and at $35 I thought it was a little pricey for what I got. The chocolate shake was nice to. The waitress was friendly and was happy to make changes. It was quite busy, but we were all done in an hour. Not bad for a 2 hour stop over between flights.
