Saw Dan 6/9 months ago for help with insomnia / using medication to sleep. I heard in the UK that CBT-i was being prescribed by doctors as the first line treatment for insomnia and it was extremely effective, so I sought out a New Zealand practitioner.

I was skeptical especially because the sessions were on Zoom and I thought it would be better face to face.

The outcome has exceeded my expectations, sleeping unmedicated well over 90% of the time 8 months after finishing treatment (which I never really thought was possible).

I reached out to Dan after 1 year insomnia paired with worsening anxiety, I didn’t believe in therapy for insomnia at start, but it did change my life way faster than I expected. I have finally resumed my normal sleeping pattern with Dan’s help, he provided practical toolkit to help me manage my emotions and progressively adjust the plan every week.
I was able to use those tools till now and never feel anxious about sleeping again. Thank you and highly recommend:)

I struggled massively with "delayed sleep-phase" for as long as I could remember (10+ years), which had a huge negative impact on my life. After having our first child and finding things even harder, I finally contacted Dan for help. We worked together for only about 6-8 weeks and I now have virtually no problems with sleep/falling asleep. I never thought I'd get to where I am today, and can't believe the results we've achieved. It really has been life-changing for me & I couldn't recommend Dan enough. Another great benefit is I now have a much better understanding of sleep and the research around it (many things I thought about sleep,  weren't actually true and would cause me unnecessary stress). My experience of the Better Sleep Clinic was extremely positive. As someone with long term insomnia, the programme has completely changed the way I think about sleep & given me the tools and knowledge to change my approach & sleep well consistently. I really appreciated Dan's kind supportive guidance throughout the programme. In short, it was transformational, highly effective & I'd definitely recommend it.

The sleep psychologist that worked with me was fantastic; approachable, educating, and realistic about what is needed and possible. Dan figured out what my main issue was right off the bat and after a couple of months coaching (and some mahi on my end - change is never effortless) I'm now sleeping a healthy amount, with strategies in place to help me back when sleep goes awry again.

But its not just that. Dan helped me get free from the guilt of being a bad sleeper, like it was some sort of failing. And, even better, I'm now free of having to plan my entire evening around trying to get to sleep. It was such a psychological burden. Getting rid of that is probably equally relieving as actually getting the extra sleep.

You do NOT need to live constantly sleep deprived! It is NOT normal. Seriously, I didn't realise how much it had dampened my mood until after I got consistently improved sleep.

The name pretty much sums it all up perfectly: The Better Sleep Clinic.

I started seeing Stafford at The Better Sleep Clinic 15 weeks ago, and when I say it's the best thing I’ve ever done, I mean it.

With the stresses of life I started to develop insomnia, it progressively got worse to the point where I felt like I’d not slept for nights on end. I knew there had to be a fix, I just didn't have the tools to do it.

I'd tried, sleeping pills, naturopaths, health shop remedies, taking time off work, doctor visits and nothing seemed to work, and if it did work it wouldn't be for a substantial period of time.

Then I found The Better Sleep Clinic. From my second appointment I’d already noticed drastic improvements in my sleep. Stafford was so knowledgeable and kind, and for the first time I felt like someone genuinely understood what I was going through.

He gave me practical, evidence-based tips and tricks I could do to deal with the physical and emotional side of insomnia; knowledge I will forever be grateful for and have with me for the rest of my life.

I could write a whole novel on why I think this is the bee’s knees but will leave it here, 10/10 couldn't recommend it enough.

One tip from me is, try to go into it with the right mindset and be willing to apply the tips and tricks given (which I’m sure you'll be willing to try anything to fix your sleep haha)

I got insomnia since the first Covid lockdown. I consulted with a sleep specialist (psychiatrist) who introduced the book, Sleep Easy by Bernice Tuffery which helped me for a good few months. I then had a relapse and that was when I was referred to Dan by the specialist. Dan has helped and guided me to having better sleeps. I am now sleeping so much better, not getting frustrated if I can't fall asleep or stay asleep.

Anxiety disorder, panic disorder, agroaphobia, depression, stress, insomnia with the new-born son was the situation I reached out to Dan in April. Six months fast-forwarded, I am so thankful to Dan for the tools and support he provided me to work through these. I can 100% assure that my sleep is back to normal and I have stopped taking pills for sleep. With the other feelings, I can't say it has fully disappeared but Dan has given me enough tools to cope which will help me live a richer life. With Dan I felt that he was just not trying to cure the symptoms but help live a better life. He was able to quantify and guide me with the subtle aspects of emotions and thoughts which rule us from inside. Thanks Dan.

Dan @ the Better sleep clinic was fantastic to work with. He provided lots of resources, examples that helped me understand my experience and reframe my thinking around sleep habits.
He provided tools to not only help me take control of my immediate sleep problems, but assure me that should I stumble, I had the tools to quickly rebound.

Dan recently gave a highly relevant, entertaining and informative presentation to our organisation on the science behind sleep, what influences sleep and the things we can all do to help improve the quality of our sleep. Dan's style and knowledge had everyone captivated and we all left with a greater understanding of the importance of sleep on our lives, and armed with ways we can improve our own sleep.

I highly recommend Dan as an expert in this area and would recommend reaching out to him if you're having any kind of issues around sleep. I have no doubt that he will be able to help you.

With a lifetime of insomnia, I was dubious that treatment would work. However, I was delighted to be proved wrong. The treatment I received from the clinic really empowered me to understand and trust that I have the tools needed to have good sleep. The added bonus was that improving my sleep also resolved a bunch of other underlying problems like digestive issues and headaches - surprisingly I had not connected these. I cannot speak highly enough of this service and Dan's approach. Just don't put it off:)

I had a really positive experience at the Better Sleep Clinic and would recommend it to anyone concerned about their sleep.

Dan delivers evidence based interventions for sleep. He is knowledgeable, and explains the principles behind these interventions clearly and simply. Unfortunately of late my wife has had to visit many healthcare professionals and we’ve had our fair share of being hurried along by busy specialists. Dealing with Dan has been completely the opposite. I have never once felt rushed or that Dan was thinking about anyone else other than me. He has been kind and generous above and beyond what I’d considered the norm. In fairness I have not come away with major changes to the amount of time I sleep. But importantly I have come away feeling so much more positive. My energy levels are much higher and my mood is better. Dan has really helped me come to terms with my sleep and my sleep anxiety. He summed it up by saying do you sleep to live or live to sleep. For me, it had been the latter and I could not stop stressing about sleep. Now my attitude is more laid back and I feel so much better for it. I honestly believe that Dan is one life’s genuinely good guys who really cares about the people who come to him for help. I’ve just finished my last session and I feel that the change he helped instigate will continue which can only be good. I also know that I can call on Dan in the future and absolutely will if I feel the need!

I am very grateful that I contacted, and have had the pleasure of working with, Dan at The Better Sleep Clinic. I have had chronic insomnia for over 20 years and have tried many things to help me sleep. Now I am able to go to sleep quickly and wake up in the morning having slept all night. That is the best thing ever! While working with Dan I discovered why I haven't been sleeping and what I need to do to sleep. You are a treasure Dan. Dan was a absolutely remarkable. He helped me more than just sleeping better. He helped me get a new perspective towards the issues that were creating my insomnia and change these thoughts for good. It's hard to get a good perspective on an online review. But I'll be honest with you (reader), I never really gave much importance to mental health because I was for me entire life always felling on top performance. But once an issue arises. You will be extremely grateful that you found the right help. And that's what Dan was for me. Thanks for everything mate. And yes. My insomnia is gone!

I contacted Dan a few months ago to try and get help with chronic insomnia. I have had insomnia for 20 years, and have tried so many different things. Dan has been amazing - a true professional with heaps of experience but also loads of empathy. Over the last few months my sleep has been getting better and better by following the plan he made for me. If you need help with insomnia you definitely need to get in touch with Dan.
