The Civic reviews
61 Every time I go to The Civic, I am in awe of how beautiful it is. The detail is spectacular, especially in the foyer and the actual theatre. We went to the elephant room bar (I think that's what it was called), which was a bit dowdy and run down in comparison to the rest of the theatre. It had no atmosphere at all, but as they didn't open up our seating area until 30 mins before the show, we needed a place to hang out. Unfortunately, it became very crowded and a bit stampede like when it came to finding your seat. It also meant that the show started 15 mins late while they tried to seat everyone.
A quick tip for when you book tickets - don't choose seats that are in the front row of a level that has other levels below it (up in the gods). We thought we had booked a great spot in a front row but it's hard to know from the seating plans just how high we would be. It was an okay place despite the height, but it was ruined every time someone walked up the stairs in front of us to go the bar or the toilet, which was every 5 minutes or so.
I would be keen to go back and do a tour of the theatre and learn more about it!
There is a Japanese store where you can buy any three items for ten dollars, which is a good deal.
The Civic is a beautiful theatre and a real asset to Auckland. It's very well maintained and each time I have been there, the staff have been awesome.
Viewing the stage, from everywhere I have sat, has been easy and the acoustics are great.
Such an amazing interior you feel like you could be any where in the world. Awesome theater been to Priscilla queen of the desert and Draculas the Resurrection, great visually and acoustic. Highly recommend
Amazing time at the Draculas show. The venue is amazing and the atmosphere is electric. Comfy seats and you feel transported into another world of grandure and majesty
Great service and friendly staff. The parking in the Civic carpark is convenient and reasonably priced.
Awesome show (Jersey Boys) but the theatre is simply magnificent and always a pleasure to attend - even the wine prices weren't too bad! Does tend to be too hot by the end of shows though (to point towards a minor negative)
We went to the Civic theatre to watch the show called Jersey Boys. While we were a fair way back up the back of the theatre, we were able to see all clearly. We loved the stars on the theatre ceiling as we waited for the start of the show, especially watching the 2 falling stars!
Great show, lovely theatre.
They don't make them like that anymore.
But getting out of the Aotea Square parking garage is a nightmare!
Always love comin here for live shows. Great atmosphere, wonderful surroundings and seating options to suit everyone.
The Civic Theatre is still amazing. Such a grand theatre which I miss now living out of Auckland. The next door under ground car park was a bit of a nightmare. Several pedestrian entries were locked which meant heaps of people trying to go to a few entrances to go downstairs all at once.
Beautiful building, great atmosphere and amazing shows! A wonderful asset in Auckland's arts and heritage.
What an amazing theatre visually inside. Saw school of rock and the sound acoustics where great. Definitely go back to the civic theater to see other shows in the future
One of my favorite theaters From Top to bottom art deco just outstanding Always try and spend time in this beautiful place
Stunning location inside. My main issue is my fear of heights but when I was at Aladdin and couldn't cope with the height the staff members were amazing and brought me down lower. I couldn't have been more grateful. Now that i'm more aware I was able to select lower seats for The School of Rock show. Lovely place.
It's a grand place and I remember going there as a child in 1950's but as its an old building the toilets are inadequate
Love d the show and the theatre is also pretty good and nicely updated with great sound quality and effects. I saw School of rock and loved it.
Gorgeous theatre with wonderful atmosphere.and a bit of history. Seats could be more comfortable given the length of some of the performances shown here. Of course your experience will also depend on the show you are seeing. Food and drink is okay, but typically expensive as you would expect for the theatre.
Gorgeous place. Excellent service. Wonderful environment. One of the top ten places to visit and enjoy in Auckland!
It's the Civic. A historic place in The cbd which adds a bit of character to this area. Always loved the starry ceiling.
