The Grove Restaurant reviews
81Fantastic experience! Very accommodating too, adjusted dishes according to dietary needs. Just make sure you let them know in advance.
Utterly perfect evening! Food, hospitality, service and atmosphere all adding to absolute perfection for a special dinner.
It’s not just dinner, it’s an experience. Every dish a wow. Warm and welcoming team and setting. If you are lucky enough to be offered the truffle say yes! Can’t wait to be back, thank you Grove team for a wonderful evening.
Went here last week and it was absolutely amazing! Food was amazing. Complimentary snacks delicious. Vanya served us and she was so helpful. Wine pairings matched timing of food servings perfectly. Sommelier’s pairings were spot on. Can’t recommend it enough!
We had high expectations when we arrived at the renowned old restaurant in Auckland, but unfortunately, we left feeling deeply disappointed. I had envisioned an exhilarating dining experience, yet the reality fell short as the dishes turned out to be excessively salty. Moreover, it was challenging to handle the multi-course dishes with our hands, but without any towels provided for guests to clean hands in advance.
To add to our disappointment, the neighbouring guests were excessively loud, their boisterous laughter echoing throughout the restaurant.it became difficult to enjoy our meal. We pay $230/person (food only) + drinks, we expected to go to a fine dining restaurant, not a bar. When we came to pay the bill, and explained the reason why we click NO to tips, instead of addressing our concerns, the manager immediately became defensive and inexplicably blamed us for changing seats twice. It was puzzling how the seating arrangement could have any bearing on the noisy dining environment caused by other guests.
As a result of our complaint, our frustration only grew as we attempted to leave. Upon departing, we found ourselves unable to open the restaurant door, with no assistance forthcoming.
Overall, the experience was truly bad.
You come to The Grove for a culinary experience, not for a meal. This is among the finest restaurants you will find in New Zealand. Expect to spend a lot of money on some of the best food you will ever consume.
Highly recommend this wonderful fine restaurant! ️
Every finger food gave me a supersize its actually not enough to taste haha Just Love️ It!
Cant believe the chef can make venison so tender and smooth.
Very professional service, plates are warm with food together every time been put on the table
whole team members are very nice friendly
Cant wait for next new course
Gravely disappointed. Seems like they dumped an entire salt jar onto my food. I told our waiter that one of the dishes was too salty and asked if they can hold back the salt a bit for the later dishes. To my disappointment, the kitchen seem to not care about that request. So instead I was served salt drenched 3/4 additional salt drenched dishes. Definitely one of worst and expensive meals I had in New Zealand.
2 stars for presentation and the sorbet was actually pretty good (probably because they can’t incorporate salt into it).
A truly lovely evening for my wife and I. Attentive service from professional wait staff and a devine degustation menu in a top class setting.
Excellent food and amazingly accommodating service. If you are looking for the best in auckland, this is definitely worth a visit.
Enjoyed the tasting menu with wine pairings last night. Inventive and delicious plates throughout, well paced, attentively served and impeccably presented. The wine pairings were right on point, equally eclectic and thoughtful. Not cheap but a great experience if you plan to splurge:)
Very fancy restaurant in Auckland.
The menu is small in portions and you can enjoy many items.
The view from the windows is not great, but you will be satisfied with the atmosphere and food in the restaurant.
Also, the desserts are very unique.
Regrettably, the menu options for course meals are poor, but if you have any requests you should discuss them with the restaurant in advance.
Fantastic restaurant. The food and wine were fantastic. The Grove specializes in degustation so you don't choose individual dishes, even though my wife and I don't normally enjoy oysters but here they were phenomenal. The staff were all amazing from our waitress to the sommelier who just happened to be the NZ sommelier of the year.
Michael the owner was there and even though they were fully staffed he was floating around pouring wine, serving and talking to customers with his passion for the restaurant obvious.
Amazing food! I don't particularly like sea food but even I enjoyed that there. That being said, their menu was not predominantly seafood-based.
We had the 6 course menu ($420 for 2) and it took about 2.5 hrs to have it all served so definitely reserve a whole evening for this experience.
My only plead would be for the entire fine dining industry - for the love of god stop serving food on INEDIBLE sand, pebbles or tooth-breaking grains that inevitably stick to the food. This is not the first nor the worst case I encountered this but it annoyed me nevertheless. Otherwise the dishes were very tasty and gorgeous to look at.
A dining experience to remember. The whole experience was amazing, the staff, the service, the food. Every detail down to the temperatures of the plates was exceptional. Expectations exceeded, high recommend!
Excellent service, the food is delicious and the ambiance is perfect. My family especially loved the white chocolate popcorn dessert at the end, thank you!
Incredible experience and the most amazing food I have ever tasted! We try to come once a year to celebrate our anniversary and the Grove has never disappointed. The atmosphere, the food and the team are quite frankly perfect! We always feel welcomed, relaxed and the food, well.the food is just unbelievable! The sweet corn and miso dessert was dreaaammy! Thank you again for all of the special little touches like the card and little treats. It really sets The Grove apart from other restaurants. I could not recommend this enough, it is totally worth it!
We had an incredible night here and enjoyed the seven course degustation it was truly amazing. The taste pallets were well balanced the staff fantastic overall and incredibly enjoyable experience. I put it up there with the Michelin restaurants we have dined in Europe. A+
Celebrating our 8th anniversary at Grove.
Absolutely amazing! Rich and flavorful dishes and lovely staffs. Definitely will come back again.
COELIACS BEWARE!
I added coeliac to the booking and reconfirmed on arrival. Halfway the meal I wasn't feeling well so my partner and I went out for a walk. I assumed it wasn't the food since it's such a high end restaurant.until I got served oats at dessert! I checked with one of the staff and it indeed was not gluten free. I already had a few bites before I spotted the oats and the rest of the dessert wasn't GF either. This was Friday - it is now Wednesday and I'm still sick.
The staff was very apologetic and took it serious, didn't charge us for my meals etc.but I do think this is not acceptable at a high end restaurant like this. Earlier in the evening I had also checked if the linguine that was served was GF and the waiter didn't know and had to go check with the kitchen. He came back out and said "yes this is coeliac". Kind of indicates their staff is not a 100% on top of which tables have dietary restrictions/ the exact meaning of them.
That being said, the food was great and the staff very kind. Would highly recommend this place if you have no food allergies / coeliac:)
