We were looking forward to supporting a local English style pub. It was one of Auckland's coldest winter days and we imagined we'd be going into what we thought would be a warm, cosy pub with hearty hot food.
Unfortunately the Patriot isn't one of those places.
The venue is cold.draughty and noisy. Even thought the fire was on it wasn't adequate to heat such a large, draughty space with a high ceiling. The situation isn't helped by the rear door being left open all the time by patrons exiting from another space and walking through the main area.
We ordered our food and drinks. The staff are polite and friendly;
We waited quite a long time for our food to arrive (I estimate between 30-45 minutes) and when it did arrive, only mine was served. My friends meal was missing, so after a while we enquired and was told there was some mistake with the order. I had to eat my meal on my own while my friend looked on wondering how long his would take. My meal was ok, but as I waited for my friends to arrive, it had started to go cold. I ordered the Pie, mash and peas and gravy, which was good value at $20. When his did arrive (the pasta) he was not very impressed as the serving was quite small, and after the long wait for it was disappointing. It was $26. I noticed he ate the whole thing in about 5 minutes.
To be honest, had we not paid in advance we'd have probably just walked out.
I do wish the owners well, but the whole experience just wasn't worth it for us and one we wouldn't want to repeat, nor recommend to anyone.

We love this place to have a meal and drink in the beer garden. Sometimes there’s even live music m. Also it’s an amazing place to take kids and some weekends they do kids eat free.

My partner and I had a dinner at here on last Wednesday, so lovely place.and the waiter with curly hair is so cute, and he really given us good service and patience. I speak English not well but I feel here like my home. Steak& Guinness pie was great, and fried fish and chip with salad was wonderful. I will come back again and again. Enjoy here every moment with my partner, definitely 5 stars

This is a unique pub in Devonport. It was welcome relief as we had walked to the top of the hill and the pub is located near the bottom of the hill.
The pub has a scottish/Celtic feel and also serves Guinness and Kilkenny.
It has indoor and outdoor/street options. I did not sample the fold but it looked good from what I could see and the other guests seemed happy.

On point to the breather with the mullet and the food was real good and a nice vibe great old school pub

Worst ploughman’s ever! 2 small pieces of bread, two small pieces of ham and silverside and 4 pickles.
That is definitely not my idea of a ploughman’s. Pretty disappointed

First time visit for us as part of a small family group, friendly staff created a table for us and our meals came out quickly. Both steaks were cooked to perfection, the schnitzel was enjoyed and the chicken parm was really nice. Thanks guys!

Great staff, jazz in the corner, lots of spaces in and out. Good pub food and a few good crafties on tap.

Returned to what was my local after 15 years. Exactly the same. Tired and rundown. Staff the only redeeming feature. Toilets less than impressive. For where it is, needs a reno. Looks good on the outside though.

Was there for lunch on a weekday. Found my own table, hunted for menus and went to the bar to order food. Should have taken the poor service from the start as a sign to leave the restaurant.

5 mins after ordering, was told the steak and guinness steak was already sold out (at 12pm on a weekday). 20 mins after ordering, the server said mussels were unavailable. I asked why. She said that they didn't have time to clean the mussels yet. I said fine, proceed with the other dishes. The tap water we requested for twice never came. Was told they don't do coffee.

At this point, there was a line of customers waiting to order and pay. There were many customers openly complaining that they waited for a long time yet no food was coming out. We saw the kitchen banging the bell twice signaling that food was ready but the server took a really long time before serving the food. Pretty sure the burger and fries would have been cold by then. After waiting for 60 mins with no food sent to us, we decided to leave.

Since we wanted to try this restaurant, we called again in the evening to ask if the mussels were available now (since the server said they didn't have time to clean the shells for lunch). The male who answered the phone promptly put me on hold for exactly 4 minutes before I even had the chance to ask my question. It was such a long wait that I almost hung up.

When he finally answered the phone again, I questioned why was I put on hold for so long. He angrily told me there were customers in front of me who were more important and I was just on the phone. I said well I'm a customer as well and I just had a simple question. The male could have just answered the call, ended it and focused on customers in front of him. In addition, he was unnecessarily rude and unpleasant.

Unfortunately, after trying to eat there twice and failing miserably, I don't think we missed anything. Went to another irish pub where we had a whale of a time. Highly do not recommend.

No tables inside for more than 3 people. Went outside to get a bigger table and no one came to take our order at 20: 45 after waiting for 15 min went inside to ask someone to take our order and was informed the kitchen was closing. Very poor service. Don't recommend.

Decent food but service was not great despite it not being a busy day. Was alright, but not amazing.

Good pub food, friendly & attentive staff. Great location and nice clean decor inside. Classic kiwi/Irish style pub in Devonport. And no surcharge on public holidays! Really enjoyed it.

Tasty salad, but chicken was a little scarce for the price and a little dry.
Friendly, prompt service and very nice to be able sit out in the sun. However, disappointed that they didn't serve coffee or tea.

Good service, A nice facility with lots of diverse seating areas indoor
, Balcony, outdoor. The vibes are always on point. You've got free darts and pool for $2 a game which is great pricing. What more do you need? My Choice of bar on the North Shore.

We hired the upstairs for a wake. The food was absolutely amazing & loads of GF/VE/V options also. We had our own bar tender & could play our own music which was awesome. Highly recommend

Local pub in what was originally a Bank of New Zealand building. Selection of on tap and bottle beers plus wine. Pub style bar meals at reasonable cost, we went twice during our stay in Devonport, cheery and friendly staff.
