At some time you may have purchased a car from an owner of a garage only to find in haste you should have left it behind the shed doors. Yes it was her.that women Mercedes and the dealers fussed over it for a year, and it finally stopped running. In the end it was which junk yard will take it to.and then you find a shop called the TOY SHOP Auckland New Zealand. With some careful attention, a new second hand engine and some imported mags Mercedes lives again, and the TOP SHOP changed a badly handling shopping car into a tight cornering super charged Mercedes ready for some touring.

It was a long time ago my father and I went for a ride in my father's friends new Mk 9 Jag and from a very early age always wanted one of the big cats. Admittedly a long time passed but during lockdown I thought its now or never. I sourced a very tidy 2004 XJ8. An AA test was done, few minor things not to worry about however, the head liner did need replacing. The deal was done.
Phoned 3 companies, The Toy Shop was the only one to respond, head liner replaced fantastic job.
Quite some time later the car started to cut out and go into creep mode always on a left hand turn.
So to cut a very long and frustrating story short, not only for me, but also for Trevor and his team, eventually their determination and persistence finally paid off, the car is going really well.
I have no hesitation in recommending Trevor and the team. If there are doubts just go and talk to them

Great team. Went out of their way to advise me on whether the second hand Land Rover Discovery I was purchasing was a good buy. (It was, I still love it many years later). Then have looked after it ever since and done a brilliant job. Thanks Trevor and team!

AVOID like the plague! Cannot follow simple instructions from VTNZ. Failed warrant was provided, instructions emailed & verified, some work done, just enough to get it to pass but will fail next time. Original problem not fixed & when asked was incredibly abusive. Unbelievable experience, do not EVER put yourself or your vehicle through dealing with this outfit.

Not a fan. The owner shouldn't be in business if he doesn't like dealing with customers. Being charged $175 an hour to put up with rude and unprofessional attitude is just ridiculous.

These guys are the best. They really care about the cars and results and it shows in the attention to detail and care they take.

Trevor and the team are fantastic to Deal with. I wouldn't take my cars anywhere else! They are straight up, on time and reasonably priced compared to other places and their work is always outstanding.

Called recently to enquire about some repairs, cost etc.and was greeted very rudely. Obviously not going there.

Sorted 2 tricky Volvo issues fixing rather than replacing expensive parts. The recent one right before a holiday at short notice - thanks Trevor and team!

Once I got my solid but not perfect Series IIa 88" to Auckland, I needed someone to help me iron out the classic faults. Trevor and his team were passionate and complimentary of my pride-and-joy. They not only sorted the clutch, (vastly improving 1st and 2nd), improved the old drum brakes and tuned the engine, but they got her starting right first time and replaced door seals to boot.
Couldn't recommend them highly enough!

We have had 2 premium vehicles repaired by the Toy Shop over the past year and a half and we have always had excellent service. We don’t waste our time with just any mechanic anymore, we prefer a specialist. They know what they’re doing, get the job done and are always on time. Exceptional service! Trev and the team are excellent to deal with.
They have worked on my Porsche, and the results have been excellent each time including: regular servicing, brake pads, brake sensors and a re-chip and dyno-tune.

I have never had a more unpleasant experience than dealing with The Toy Shop. I get the impression that this is the place to drop off your car if you can afford to pay whatever they decide to charge you.

I was verbally quoted $147 plus GST to get my Golf inspected for an issue I explained over the phone. I was charged $360 for a "diagnostic" that did not find a conclusion. They then called me to explain it would cost up to $1000 to complete the inspection by checking the oil sump. This is something any half wit with a 10mm wrench can do in a hour. Furthermore I was told I would need to get the engine rebuilt for upwards of $6000. Not only is that ridiculous, but this was BEFORE the actual condition of the internals was examined? ! Trevor mentioned on the phone that when hot the car had an engine knock, but this wasn't written on the invoice funnily enough? That's a huge factor concerning whether or not the engine is damaged.

If you have deep pockets and plenty of time to waste then this is the place for you. No doubt they will reply to this attempting to justify their actions because "they don't provide quotes, just estimates. " Essentially I paid $360 to have my engine codes cleared and to be told nothing I already didn't know, and that I should pay them an arm and a leg to rebuild an engine that isn't necessarily damaged.

I am not the only one to experience this. Read ALL the reviews not just the positive reviews from wealthy people that do not understand what they are paying for.

Believe when I say that the Toy Shop is way above expectation when it comes to servicing motor vehicles, as from experience from other mechanical shops.

For European Vehicles the Toy Shop I believe has an understanding of mechanical problems even before the diagnosis equipment is set up. This in itself can give the customer (me) confidence that the vehicle in for service is going to be taken care of.

The efficiency of vehicle service turnaround astounds me as my expectation of waiting and collection is usually longer.

Don't hesitate to give yourself the 5 star rating you deserve, At one time I had taken my Porsche to three other European Service outlets and neither could locate the problem. Last resort the Toy Shop Shop, located the problem and repaired the fault. Cheers for that.
