Tokyo Bay reviews
61 Great food and best if you eat all smaller dishes and share. I loathe tappas and shared dishes yet the only way i eat here. It's good.
Great tofu. Yam wraps. Eggplant. All great.
Excellent authentic taste of Japanese cuisine! Felt like a time travel to Japan:)
Must visit restaurant in Auckland! Amazing ambience along with humble and diligent staff! Overall, had a wonderful time with my partner!
We shall be back very soon!

Everything was phenomenal. We had the miso salmon, several pieces of sashimi, agadashi tofu, and some miso soup- and it’s by far not only the best Japanese food we’ve found in New Zealand so far but on par with what we have both eaten in Japan as well. Beautiful restaurant, attentive staff, and delicious food.
We were dissapointed with our mix of starters. Miso eggplant was average, bitter and not caramelised as it should be. The agadashi tofu was tasteless and had a gloopy coating. Mushroom gyoza was mostly some sort of greens, no mushroom flavour. For an upmarket establishment with substantial prices, I'd suggest go elsewhere! I think you're paying for the view and interior.
This family owned and run restaurant serves the most delicious food with great service and a view to die for. We come here 2 or 3 times a year and it is always a pleasurable experience.
Great food, authentic Japanese knowledge bomb, great view, we ate outside and had our small dog on lead, lovely people.
A great night out. Good food, the staff are accommodating and attentive. We will definitely return for more of the generous cocktails. Very happy.
We barely even mentioned that it was my birthday as we walked in, but they will brought dessert out with a candle. Love these guys and their food.
We like this place. Grilled aubergine and pepper squid are favorite starters and after that you can't really go wrong. Handy for the beach and parking.
First visit - amazing!
Beautiful food, great menu with excellent service.
Thank you so much - great lunch.
The best point to eat here because of the seaside atmosphere, to compare with the Japanese food which I enjoyed in many other area, I couldn't give it 5. Also not easy to find pay parking during the lunch time.
Not a single vegan option. Couldn’t even offer a vegan roll. Disappointing for a place positioned in ponsonby.
Went for dinner few times before, same as John's review earlier, this 1 star rating is a reflection of the extremely disappointing way the owners of this establishment have responded to negative reviews.
If you’re looking for some sake bar sort of experience and try a variety of small plates, this is not the place to go. Tokyo bay is a very westernised Japanese place, from the structure/logic of menu to the taste of the food. We liked the environment & service but we’d prefer more authentic Japanese food. By the way, price leans to the fine dining side.
My OH and I had the sashimi, nagiri and sushi plate for 2 and some small plates and that ess plenty of food. Delicious fresh fresh that melted in your mouth. The service was so friendly and homely.
Visited for dinner after recommendation from friends and definitely did not disappoint. Lovely ambience, The food is great (husband had 3 servings of the fresh salmon; best he's ever had and I had equal amounts of the karaage chicken!). Lovely service; female host is delightful. Look forward to visiting again.
Excellent food and service at Tokyo Bay. Loved all the shared dishes we had. Very attentive and friendly waiting staff. So good!
Standard of cooking and food very disappointing used to go alot at least once a week but have not been for awhile will not go back for along time
I don’t really understand how this place has a high rating. The food was incredibly average, cold and bland for Japanese. Sashimi cut thick and not very fresh. Asked for hot sake and it came cold and was told it couldn’t be heated. Good location, maybe the best takapuna has to offer but I would drive elsewhere at what they charge.
