Fat Dog Cafe & Bar reviews
58The place has a nice atmosphere and the staff is friendly buuuut the veggie burger was really spicy? I couldn’t eat it
Have always enjoyed the breakfasts I've had here, this time it was lunch and I had the Dogs Bollix Burger and it really was bollix. The pattie was cold, overcooked, tasteless and dry, onion rings were coated in thick greasy batter, it was awful. Some basic salad finished it of as a terrible choice. Too much focus on looks rather than flavour and quality.
I have enjoyed coffee and slices here before, but the burgers were truly, inexcusably bad today. For $22 at a cafe, you would expect pretty high quality. The schtick is that they're piled ridiculously high for the wow factor, but then they should be good enough to excuse how difficult they are to eat. Instead they were soggy and bland. My fish did not have a grain of salt on it. My partner's beef was overcooked to hockey puck consistency and nearly inedible. It also took about 30 minutes to come out. Maybe it was a bad day but I was quite disappointed. Coffee was still good, and service is always good. (I don't speak to the staff in cases like this when there's no simple remedy, and I never try to get my money back. Food just shouldn't come out like that, period.)
Been going to Fat Dog Cafe every time I go to Rotorua for the last 20+ years.and it never disappoints.great food and coffee!
Due to covid lockdown level 2, the service and staff were still excellent. Breakfast was amazing, filling and yummy. Thank you Fat Dog Cafe
Visited Fat Dog just recently, and decided to walk out without buying. The reason? Fat Dog refused to let us swap the deep fried hash brown to mushrooms, which were the same price. Their food and coffee was more expensive too. Went back instead to "Third Place", where we'd previously had a fabulous coffee overlooking the lake. Cheaper, better atmosphere, and they were more than happy to swap the hash brown to something else of our choice (we swapped for avocado).
Coffee was nice. But finished that way before our food arrived. Food was warm, not hot. Eggs were way over cooked. Tasted like rubber, [to much vinegar]. Pulled pork mince, not nice. No flavour. Was recommended to go here, but we were disappointed. Expensive
Awesome food and service, quality was excellent for price, tempted to remove star due to lack of fat dog but it was so good
Always busy. Good atmosphere. Good variety. Went there at lunch time. We waited for more than 30mins for our orders. Food was a mixed bag, but generally fine.
Bigger than the last time I went, still as friendly and jam-packed fill of sweet treats. We had cakes, shakes n smoothies the strawberry milkshake was on another level. Always a win.
Excellent, friendly service considering they were about to shut. We were only wanting a Smoothie and a snack. Nothing was a problem. Had the Fish & Chip Burger and was surprised at how big it was. Very tasty and the fried pickle was amazing. Lifted the burger to a whole new level. Great meal.
Great place for a meal break. They were very good in helping with gluten and dairy intolerences as well. Had good options and could make many things alternative for us which was great.
Friendly staff, nicely styled cafe, good coffee, but unfortunately waited over 40 minutes for my meal today (just ordered 2 breakfast meals).
Interesting looking cafe and was rather busy when we arrived. We were warned that the wait would be around 25mins. About 35 mins later two of our three meals arrived and the other would be another 10 mins or so. The wait staff however were incredibly friendly and apologetic about it and gave us a couple of free slices to make up. Major fail on the menu board however as we ordered vegetarian burgers. The list of ingredients failed to mention that there was a lot of chili in the patty. Sadly one of our group Think for sure you should have listed chili! About as hot as a jalopena popper I reckon.
Fantastic food. Only one toilet was working that day but aside from that would definitely go back.
Cafe was busy, but order got taken quickly.custard square was humongous (but tasted bland, like a commercially made one). Ginger slice was very gingery (I like ginger). Staff friendly especially young maori man Te Ao (I think his name was, very chatty and friendly) staff apologised for time to deliver Chai Latte. Latte was average tasting.quite milkyOverall not as good as some other cafes Ive
tried. But looking forward to trying some of there other set menus at a future date.
Best place to go, after a night out or to have a meeting.:)
Staff are great, plenty of seating and great back porch scenery.
Great as always. Few changes but still lovely staff, huge menu, lots of vegetarian options, nice teas and good coffee. Really recommend
It has character Prices and quantity were great! Tasty food, friendly staff with great company! Touch down rotovegas with my 17 family members and this cafe was the first place we came too! Money well spent.
I heard of this berger so many time before, but it was kind of sweet and oily.
And huge portion! If you like fries and big portion I recommanded this burger
