Yamato Japanese Restaurant reviews
70Best meal out I've had in a long time, and best Japanese food I've ever had. Fresh. Such a cute homely and authentic experience. Topped with sparkling saki and plum wine! Def our new favorite restaurant when visiting rotorua
Real authentic Japanese experience.
High quality raw fish with traditional cut.
This is not the average sushi restaurant, but the real deal
The food here is super delicious.everything is freshly prepared and the service is super nice.
Would come back in a heartbeat.
What a gem! I've found my go-to restaurant in Rotorua. The sweetest people, fresh and tasty authentic Japanese food, a sense of community, busy with regular patrons. Thank you Yamato, see you again soon.
I visited late at night in a tired state after a long trip, but the three Japanese employees were very kind and provided delicious food, so I ended the day in a good mood. Thank you:)
Food was good, very fresh serving of sushi but service was kind of slow, maybe it was a crowded midweek. Seems very popular with the locals too for a good Japanese dinner. Prices are quite pocket friendly too
It is a Japanese restaurant with a Japanese taste. Adapted to the local, edible taste, average price, the staff gives good advice.
Sushi was great, service was a bit slow for things like water and drinks which shouldn’t take long when the restaurant isn’t that busy.food was tasty, but portions were on the small side for what you pay. Three adults cost about $200, but that might just have been our north american appetites.
Not very expensive but not a big plate anyway. We ordered Tan Don, it’s only with three fried shrimp and soy sauce topping on rice only… and we waited an hour for two Dons and one sashimi… Taste is just ok…
4star objective, 5 star relative to rotorua/NZ …
super happy with the chirashi bowl and creative sides (i.e. Fried crispy salmon skin)
Great authentic Japanese food. Donburi and bento set is good. Portions were decent. Sashimi tasted fresh. Prices were also affordable. Come by if you're around the area!
Really nice and friendly staff. One of the staff apologised sincerely when one of the bowls of udon took awhile to come. Food isn't too expensive and is very good:)
Very friendly and amazing food.you have to wait a bit but that just makes it better because you can see how the prep it and it looks amazing.the food was so good we had to go back the next day
Although slightly pricey, it is definitely worth it - the food tastes amazing! The menu is also very well varied. I ordered a lunch set, and the beef (one of the many options for meat) was really tender and juicy. I loved my meal, and definitely would recommend this place.
They should have more English speaking staff to explain the menu. Also indicate which item's are gluten-free.
Very disappointed at the cooked food.waited for long time for the food to be ready.did not taste good and very salty.waitress even sent our food to next table.
Giant sushi roll filled with rice.not impressed.
Best Japanese restaurant in Rotorua and I always visit Yamato on my every visit to the town.
Everything made fresh in front of you and tastes soo good.
Highly recommended spicy tuna rolls, salmon rolls and takoyaki balls.
Amazing staff. Highly recommended
Really nice food
Quick service and very reasonably priced
Would visit again definitely
Maybe time for a decor update though
Can get busy but still only 20 min wait on food. Go here every fortnite. Staff work hard and the atmosphere at the bar area is great
One of the best Japanese Restaurants I've ever tried The sushi rolls are the best and they are all freshly made in front of you. The price is reasonable as the ingredients are very fresh and the portion is great:) We felt so satisfied after the meal and we even preordered a take-away for next day's lunch
