The Pines, Lake Pukaki Freedom Camping reviews
9Fantastic place to stay, we were blessed with very little wind. Not much traffic used the nearby road at night. No obnoxious neighbours. Only complaint is they forgot turn turn up the heat on the Lake water temperature.
Beautiful location for Freedom Camping. Amazing view of Mt. Cook. Refreshing swim during the summer
Beautiful and peaceful location, great views of the lake and the forest. One of our favourite freedom camping spots. No facilities at all unless you drive into town.
The place no longer has pines. Can get really windy, especially in the night but the view truly AMAZING. Totally undisturbed.
Right by the lake, not much seclusion, but we'll away from the main road between Lake Tekapo and Twizel. If you're using as a one night stopover ideal
Beautiful, quiet, plenty of room, great views and on the a2o bike trail.what more do you want!
The pines are now cut down but it’s still a beautiful place to camp. A little exposed but waking up next to the lake is stunning. There are loads of freedom camping spots in the area
This was my favourite freedom campsite during my campervan journey around the south island of New Zealand. I had driven up from Queenstown that morning passing lake tekapo on route. I have to say I think lake Pukake is better and more beautiful than tekapo. I found this freedom site straight away using my maps. I arrived about 3 in the afternoon end Feb 2020 & there was only other one campervan there at that time. I parked right at the Lakeside. As the hours went by a few more vans arrived and by late evening I would say there were no more than 10
Parked in huge car park area. Plenty of space for everyone however take care parking as there are huge potholes and uneven ground. I met a couple whilst camping here and we all laid on the ground staring up at the night sky which was very clear and this is in a dark sky reserve so stargazing is first class even with your naked eye.
I woke the next morning to the most beautiful sunrise I have ever seen in my life. Highly recommend this location you will not be disappointed
