Chatham Island reviews
9Loaded with history from the morioris and nz maoris. A big expansive island. You don't need to long to explore the bush walks seal colony of the island. Stay at the pub and rent a 4wd. Quite an eye opener. Gravel roads and wandering stock.
Thoroughly enjoyed my 7 days meeting new people learning about the island. Chathams has been on my wish list for some years. There was not one place I could say I preferred as every place was equal
So many people envied me as they've all would like to visit maybe now after my visit and many talks who knows. There is so much history there I did mention they maybe think about taking a tour.
It took me out of my comfort zone, relaxation was not one of my better attributes BUT I can assure you Island Life proved me wrong. Many thanks to all who made my trip everlasting memories
Remote and unique my return visit 44 years later brought to me an unexpected peace and the beauty of the coastline and its waters but also a natural ruggedness as wellWith Libyan tendencies I found a balance I feel but also a true connection with the land.it’s ocean and my yearning to fish again And I realise life is too short not to make the most of every day and embrace the challenges ahead with passion, truth and respect.
Not a bad place to live. Would recommend to tourists but youll need a fat wallet with you if you want to do anything: petrol $3.70 a litre. 1 V energy 250ml $5.50 etc.

The Chatham Islands are a must visit place. Stunning scenery, interesting culture, fantastic fresh seafood, a nature lovers paradise.
Work 17months chats. Experience great. Accommodation excellent. Outdoor goldmine. Expensive. You should do it. Don't forget Pitt island, part of the chats. Flowerpot lodge. Food great. People remote real nice. GV.
Awesome people, excellent for hunting diving and fishing. A must visit for the outdoor enthusiasts. Love this place
The Chatham Islands are remote part of New Zealand and is worth visiting from that point of view.
The landscape is generally rolling countryside with several lakes and a large lagoon. There are some good walks and excellent beaches, but maybe a bit cold for swimming. The weather can be challenging with strong persistent winds and rain.
The people of the Chathams are friendly, resilient and resourceful, as of necessity.
Probably best for Nzers to visit rather than aliens.
