Mission Estate Restaurant reviews
54We were served by Morgan & Caitlyn Yovich overseen by Hannah and were blown away by the service and incredible food.the whole ambience of the place would have to be the best ever in Hawke's Bay, thank you. We'll be back again for any special reason, cannot wait.
Dreadful experience. Arrived around 2pm and got told they were fully booked but we could sit anywhere and have the bar menu. The waitress said the menu was “chips and whatever”. We then selected some items from the bar menu and ordered at the bar but were told that half of it wasn’t available because the kitchen was too busy and they “don’t have time to cut up any cheese for the platter”. Instead, we ordered a platter full of cold cuts, fried fish and a few slices of cheese. What we received was honestly disgusting. It was basically a platter of leftovers with a central dish of mayo which had a thick film over the top because it had clearly just been sitting out for a long time. The cold cuts were sweaty and gross. The sauerkraut, grapes, peppers, cherries etc were all just old and tired. The cheese was stale and had also clearly been sweating for a very long time. It cost us $55. We were absolutely starving and no one was making us feel very welcome so we just ate what we could stomach and got out as soon as we could. We also had to ask for water, napkins etc because no one paid us any attention. We were half way through our drinks when they started to loudly move all of the tables around us inside. If this is supposed to be one of the best wineries that New Zealand has to offer then that’s an embarrassment. Unprofessional, shoddy place with a phoney reputation
Beautiful location with wines made on the premises. There was no available tables in the dining room, but we were able to sit in the garden and enjoy a varied cheeseboard.
Food was devine! Friendly staff, beverages at perfect temperatures. Antree was perfectly salted and a real hit with the kids especially. Mains were cooked to perfection. Desserts were melt in your mouth and popped with flavour and well presented. Beautiful views. We sat outside under the grape vines and loved itI I highly reccomend this place for a wonderful dining experience. (I might have sneeked an extra piece of Garic bread and in home baked Brioche).
We went for dinner last evening we found the staff non professional to the point of reaching in front of us while eating to remove an empty plates, and using phrases that have no place when serving dinners, given desert spoons to eat soup with, food was either only just warm or not cooked properly and when this was pointed out they did rectify this but the apology felt artificial and came across more like grovelling, needless to say we will not be returning.
Took the family there for lunch and was exceptionally happy. The squid appetizers was fantastic and the mains of Lamb and Fish & Chips were wonderful.and then there is the wine.complex Savagnion Blanc and a great Rose set the tone.ended up with a creme Brule and chocolate desert.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Beautiful setting fabulous wines superb meal and great service. Definitely an 11/10 experience!
We went here for dinner for my partners birthday, after having been there for a wine tour earlier in the day. The photo is of a board of pitite fours that we ate before I decided a picture was necessary for a review - an unexpected and special gesture. The food? Delicious. The service? Couldn't have asked for more. Give Caitlin a pay rise, and my best regards.
A main special with wagyu & pork were delicious & beautifully presented.
We dined outside & loved a wonderful setting.
Service was excellent & enjoyed a bubbly atmosphere in the restaurant.
We arrived at 14: 15. Their lunch was over. But until 5 pm they have a bar menu including cheese, cold meats, some antipasto items. Did they serve that. Big NO. All they could serve was chips and some nuts. They call themselves one of the best vineries in the region. And this is how they treat to people who comes and willing to spend money. Horrible experience.
Been here quite a few times, with and without little kiddies, and the service and food are always excellent. Highly recommended when you're in the Bay. I would recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment. Vaccine pass is required upon entry.
Celebrated our Anniversary here. Beautiful ambiance, service and food - 'top notch'. The young waiter was professional, with a friendly and engaging personality. A very special place
The food was delicious as usual! The service could be better.
I’d recommend having one or two servers per table. Our meal was interrupted an awful lot because we had multiple waiters who weren’t communicating with each other. Food came without cutlery. Once we got cutlery some of the food was cold and needed reheating. We were given the wrong bottle of wine and waited about half an hour for the correct one.
The staff were nice and friendly though.
Had a really disappointing experience recently. Made a request on our booking (well over a week in advance) to be seated outside only to arrive on a sunny/hot day and be told very abruptly that it was full outside and we had to sit in. If we'd known this was going to be the case we would've booked elsewhere, the whole attraction to The Mission was the outside grounds not the dated and tired interior. Service was really robotic and like they didn't want to be there, something i'd expect from a takeaway shop not a highly regarded winery restaurant. Food was ok and the servings sizes were generous especially for a lunch however for that price point there are definitely better options in Hawkes Bay. Will certainly be taking our business elsewhere in future.
My husband and I decided to drop by this estate for lunch because we heard it was the oldest estate in NZ and it was just a tourist stop that had to be made. We weren’t expecting the food to be good but we were pleasantly surprised! Food was really amazing. I highly, highly recommend the truffle cheese bread. I couldn’t stop myself from gobbling it down. The lamb was also very good. We had a couple of drinks to go with it. Simply delicious! And after that we spent some time taking pictures around the estate. You can also do wine tasting here but we skipped it as we had a long travel ahead of us. Overall, great place to dine and relax among friends. The view is just beautiful. Makes whatever you’re eating much more delicious ;)
Fantastic food and service, food was good portion sizes and tasty. Good venue with plenty of seating.
We celebrated our Golden Wedding with a superb meal here. Able to sit outside on a lovely late afternoon everything was bang on right through a difficult menu choice (that looks tempting; or maybe this one but how about this other one?) Decisions, decisions, right down to the single malt whisky, "peat reek", smokey, phenolic - there's a clue as to what Islay whisky it was.
Beautiful experience great staff lovely food and awesome atmosphere had a great night thank you!
What an amazing new years shindig. Service was incredible especially by Antonia and Chris. They went out of their way to accommodate us. Thank you Antonia and Chris
Beautiful venue, very friendly staff and delicious food.
We had a booking for 7 people at 6: 30 pm on 27th of December but arrived an hour earlier, decided to change our booking which they helped us with a very warm and welcoming smile.
Both who attended our table were extremely helpful, patient and friendly.
Thanks for excellent customer service and great experience.
