Discovery Lodge Tongariro reviews
63Had an amazing experience staying here in the middle of northland winter. It was well maintained communal area. Miki has been awesome. Will definitely recommend. By the way, we stayed in the camping hut. I would recommend to bring extension power cords to charge your devices.
I definitely made a very good choice booking this place. Beautiful place close to Whakapapa and Gollum pool, Four Square was also nearby. Nice view out there. I was here to click milky-way photograph sadly sky was not that clear. Will definitely visit again.
We have not stayed here in but it is about the service I received from them without any bookings! It’s hard when you know so little about the area and it is even harder to find specific information! Even though I have made no bookings with them, Callum has been so helpful! He is kind and has all the information that you may need to do the Tongariro crossing!
Please do not hesitate to go ahead with them as you will be in good hands! Highly recommend them
Great location to take on the Tongariro Crossing. Unit was so warm when we arrived Friday night and very clean
Sadly really unfriendly.
We just parked up to do the online booking due to a closed reception. The staff came out and told us off for that. No hello, no understanding and just really rude behavior
It's an amazing campground and great shuttle service to Tongariro Crossing.
Thank you Discovery team!
Had an amazing stay and experience with the owners. This resulted in an absolutely awesome stress free time on on the tongariro crossing for my partner and I will definitely come again.
We spent two nights on a campsite enjoying both dinners on a picnic table facing breathtaking mountain views.
Facilities were cleaned and maintained to a high standard although the outside general rubbish bin needed a clean and rubbish sac.
We stayed in the campervan/van area and we loved the ample space provided, along with the clean kitchen and toilet amenities!
Sadly I can only give it three stars. For the price we paid, I expected better. Firstly there was No wifi. My bad for overlooking this but I can’t believe there’s hotel nowadays that does not provide wifi. Second, the room was clean but it did not smell fresh despite it was in the country (and even when the windows are open). I had stuffed nose most of the time while inside the room and did not sleep too well for the 3 nights we stayed there. Third, there were lots of bugs, but the owner was nice enough to come take care of some spider scares my partner had. Overall I think it would have been nice to have stayed there for 1 night because the scenery is good. I just felt way more comfortable after we moved to another motel after 3 nights staying there so I wouldn’t be returning.
The chalet studio is clean, tidy, has cooking utensils and nice shower and a great view. Owners are super friendly and easy to communicate with. There was no wifi but it does make you connect with the nature even more.
Callum the owner was so nice. I had just gotten off the Northern circuit and needed a place to stay. Not only was it affordable with a great location but it was also kind enough to give me a room upgrade!
The room was spacious and clean. The hotel is only a few kilometers from Tongariro village. Will definitely stay there again in the future.
Was a perfect place to stop Asad stay at after a long journey on my motorcycle. From first calling for a booking to being advised how to go about it was positive vibes. Reached the discovery lodge Miki was helpful upon arrival. Had a pleasant sleep the room was clean and as advertised with amazing views. WiFi not being was a blessing in disguise to enjoy the quiet and time with yourself. Callum & his son Abel we’re wonderful hosts offering me to trade off their discovery lodge for my motorcycle ha ha, will come by next time and relieve you for a day to take my motorcycle and have your day off. Thank you. Must stay stay here.
We booked one of the powered camp sites. We were in a Jucy campervan with our baby and we had a great time at the Discovery Lodge. We were greeted by the lovely staff and they were super helpful. The camp site was clean and the view was breathtaking. The toilets and bathrooms were super clean. It was a great place to relax and enjoy the scenery. We will definitely come back!
Always an absolute pleasure staying here. Miki is always a delight to deal with. The Chalets are ideal for a family. They are modern, clean, cosy and have everything you need.
Lovely place to stay. Cleanliness 5/5
Location 5/5
Hospitality 5/5
Can't fault anything about the lodge. It's close to mountain.
It's clean, perfect size and loved the rustic look and feel.
Callum was such a nice man. We booked our campsite really late, but he fixed it for us. We were doing the alpine crossing the next day and he even offered us good quality waterproof jacket so we didn't have problems later. Highly recommended!
Discovery Lodge is the place to be! Mikki and Callum are the best host you can have at National Park! Feeling outdoorsy? Or you want to tick off your checklist the Tongariro crossing! Just get a chalet at Discovery Lodge!
Fantastic, friendly and helpful service. If you are wanting to walk the Tongariro crossing, highly recommend staying here.
If you're doing the Tongariro crossing you'd be silly to go elsewhere. A great range of facilities and incredible hosts who make sure you have a safe and enjoyable experience on the mountain.
We have stayed with Discovery Lodge a few times already & I have to say we never disappointed with this place & people. Callum & Miki are super awesome people. They always have time for a quick chat in a super friendly manner & also their local knowledge is great. We took their early shuttle service to the crossing starting point; which makes everything much more enjoyable as we can be a few hours ahead of a lot of people. Also, I have managed to capture a stunning sunrise with beautiful colours. The room we were staying in is a little bit dated but super clean & tidy. I love to highly recommend Discovery Lodge as each time we had a great experience. We are looking forward to coming back & do camping with our kids next summer. Thank you so much & all the very best Callum & Miki!
