Gengy's Restaurant

This is not a fancy restaurant, this is self service, quantity over quality food setting. As long as you understand this, you will enjoy yourself, the meals are only as good as you make them so if you don't like your meal, that's on you. Very good for family's not so much romantic couples.

Superb food -great for kids, especially fussy eaters as they get to choose from a great selection. Starters mains and puddings included. Food is all fresh. And graded pricing scale is perfect when you have kids. Will be back again next time in palmy.

Not very good! Cooks need to learn hygiene standards are a must! Selection of foods should be cooked to a premium taste (Not undercooked), variety was okay, dessert was better

Service; non- existence?

Quite a unique experience in Palmy. Buffet style. Choose the ingredients/sauce and food is freshly stir-fried. Questionable hygiene (especially at the dessert bar) but they were extremely busy with lots of kids. I would suggest the owner to oversee the hygiene and the operation instead of helping at cooking/cashier. Would definitely go back.

Great place for large gathering. The staff were super friendly and accomodating. Food was amazing. 100% recommend to all.

Disappointed. Got set next to a table for 15 or so little kids and they were pretty terrible, this is the parents fault not the resturants but they probably could have stepped in when they started kicking a football around.we were going to let it go but when we jokingly laughed and said there table was a bit terrible to the guy taking payment at the front he rudly said "it's not our problem you didn't book" which is a silly thing to say anyway because that would have been unlikely to change where he seated us cause we were one of the few party of 2s. Wouldn't have even made a comment if he wasn't so unnecessary douchy about it. Like excuse me for not wanting a foot ball game played in the resturant I eat at

Excellent food as always. Great service, friendly staff, delicious pancakes. This is one of my favourite places to eat with friends - it's less formal than a normal sit down dinner and easy to catch up in.

First time visit, for my daughters birthday. Food choices are pretty good and I would have been happy except for the poor hygiene standards. Guys, you cannot cook and clean at the same time and with a filthy rag and continuously wipe your hands on your pants/apron. The young chefs are clearly not trained in this regard. I saw other questionable hygiene issues as well. I am a qualified food hygiene instructor so know what I'm talking about. This was the the only thing that really let them down.

My daughter specifically requested dining here for her birthday. Pricing calculator is available on their website so you don't get any nasty surprises and prices are scaled for children by age. I suggest you book ahead of time, especially for large groups. The restaurant can be a little loud. Meals are all you can eat and water is provided, but other drinks are extra.
If you have not eaten at this style of buffet before, you queue to fill a bowl at the buffet, with meat and vegetables and your choice of flavoured oils, sauces and condiments, and these are griddle cooked while you wait and handed to you on a plate for you to return to your table. This allows you to select only the delicious things you want to eat in a stirfry style, and you can keep going back to try different flavours.
Service staff were efficient at removing used plates and always asked politely before doing so.
There are a range of sides and nibbles (great for fussy kids who only want nibbles and nuggets), and some soups with optional rolls and butter. I found the chicken & mushroom soup really tasty.
The dessert bar has limited options, which are mostly ice cream with various toppings, but there is always the option of pancakes.
If you have 3 adults dining at full cost, it's $1 on birthdays. Check their website for full pricing and conditions.

Best gengys in the north island. There service was good. So much choice of food other then just the traditional food which is alsome for kids etc.so delishous.

Second time as a family going to Gengy’s, and collectively we agreed our food was better cooked the first time we went. Seemed like they weren’t keeping on top of their meats, and oils because there was hardly any left by the time we went to eat and it was on 6.30pm. However it does shock me that for a family restaurant I had to change my 10 month old on the toilet floor as there was no change table.

All you can eat buffet. Choose your choice of meat, sauce and condiments to be grilled for you. Friendly staff and good service. Definitely a recommended place to dine in at Palmy

Great restaurant and concept on designing and creating your own meals.
Was just disappointed that it took over 40 mins to have boiled rice replaced into the warmer.

I ate at Gengy's and then won a car race. I will now be eating at Gengy's before all of my races.

They were able to fit our group of 12 in last minute. The experience was great. The kids loved being able to choose their own meals and have the chefs cook them. Also the unlimited pancakes was a hit with everyone. Thanks Gengys

No booking no server. It is only 6: 30pm. I don’t think they can eat whole night. We just need table for two people. I am very disappointed with this customer service.
