Havelock TakeAways

Brought a BLT BURGER N CHIPS they were below what I would expect at those prices. BLT BURGER was horrible no lettuce or tomatoes was more like a hamburger with Mayo sauce one tiny piece of pineapple.
Chips were dry.
New owners but food hasn't changed much still poor

Great Cheese and Pineapple toasted Sandwich’s! - slight onion flavour on the fried side though, recommend seperate grill for these - will keep eating them though! As the team are committed to keeping good food turnover and out and nice place to wait with TV, chairs, tea service and iIl ice creams. Good local spot -

The best chips I love how crispy they are, they also do a great vegetarian burger - mushrooms/egg/pineapple - all the veg.

Wished we had read the reviews before going here. Big slip up. Disappointing meal. Small bit of fish over battered and dripping in oil. Ended up having to remove the batter. Chips ok. Curry roll ok. Should have gone to the pub for the roast.

Unfortunately I can't review the food as the service was so bad I didn't get that far and chose to walk out. Decided to stop in and grab some dinner on our way home upon walking into the shop the woman was busy telling the other staff about an order they needed to redo as the customer said everything was undercooked, she then approached the til to "serve" me and simply stared at me with a look on her face like I was an inconvenience, as she didn't say a word to me I thought I'd break the ice to get my order underway so said "hi" to which she turned her nose up at me and very gruffly replied "yea? " with a tone I have never been spoken to with in my life. It was like she was wondering why I was standing in the shop and was a huge inconvenience so I said forget it and as hungry as I was I chose to walk out and will never spend a cent there. I did end up getting fish and chips from a place 15 minutes down the road with had great friendly service and good food.

Nice food & friendly staff. But the menu is not the same as publicly available. An all good feed though.

Regularly slack on the phone order front.
The amount of times I have ordered for a set time, and had to wait another 15 minutes, is pretty much almost all of them.
Good food, slow service and wrapping.
The old guy is alright, most of the time.

According to the bible God loves accurate weights and measures. Expect over sized potato scoops, under sized fish, tricky battering.

Slightly deaf elderly female cashier, make sure you say the number of items twice and check the docket.

Honestly I have to try the pubs fish and chips.

Please wash your hands when you have been outside patting the local dog, before handling our food

This place may have good food but they are very bad in service. Swearing and talking like we are not their customers and we are from garbage. The man could have punched my friend on the face just for moving their "golden couch". The couch was more important than their customers. They made us get up and we were eating. There were kids as well that got scared from the way the man started shouting at us for moving the couch. We had to get up and leave. Leaving behind what we bought to eat. Talking about the food it was definately not up to the standard. The fish was too chewy and the burgers tasted bad. Won't be suggesting to go there again.

We arrived just 5mins before closing and were welcomed in with a smile and friendliness.
We ordered a scoop of chips and 2 cheeseburgers. Total was just under $20. Size of burgers and the order was perfect for hungry teenagers. Yummo and full of flavour was the feedback.
We would stop in again when in or when going through Havelock again.

Fresh crunchy fish in light batter. Generous portions. Kumara chips crunch out and soft in. Elephant fish large portion.

Great meal from these guys tonight. Chargrill Chicken Salad was nice, Dads Banger and Mash was awesome, burgers great and fish really good. Chips were fresh and crispy. Good all round and service with a joke and smile

After reading the reviews, with a bit of trepidation we ordered the Fish meal and char grilled chicken. Everything was cooked and presented well. The only comment is that I received chicken patties instead of a piece of chicken. Would stop again

Food is quite good however the service of the front of house is rude and unpleasant. Get your food and get out

It's not often I feel compelled to leave a bad review, especially in the South Island where we typically experienced fantastic. However, Havelock Takeaways feel well short of the mark. The first time we visited Havelock in November, we waited patiently for them to open for lunch as per their opening hours on the door but no one arrived. Another waiting customer called them and they said they would be there soon. But after 30 minutes we both gave up and left. Then we visited again in January. This time they were open for dinner. Unfortunately the staff were very grumpy and rude. They didn't give us our sauces so we had to return to get them. And the food was well below the standard we were accustomed to int he South Island. Such a shame as they seem to be the only budget option for dinner in Havelock.

Terrible - only gave it one star cause you can’t leave them blank! The fish and chips were over cooked and the ‘swimming’ in grease (oil). Would definitely NOT recommend this place. Most of it went in the bin. What a waste of money. They need to learn how to cook the food properly and drain it afterwards.

Great fish and chips. Good service and I even got a slice of lemon for my fish. Will go back for sure

Horrible service.the staff were so not welcoming i felt like they didn’t want me there!
Food was not even nice the lettuce was gross! The chips were still frozen on the inside and the bun was so stale and there was 1/4 a piece of tomato in the burger.wont be going back

Sorry guys, I would like to leave a good review but it's hard! Things I liked: the waiting area, the town, the chip portion size.

Things I didn't like: food was VERY oily, need to let it drain longer and stab the wrapped parcel to let the food breathe a bit. Fish was old seeming, quite rubbery. Only had two standard pieces of fish left so we purchased the "fish of the day" for $9 each.we could barely tell the difference. We ordered wedges with sour cream, sweet chilli and bacon for $17 and it was all lumped together in a takeaway box. A mess to try and eat.

Things I recommend: the above regarding oiliness, presentation improvements, and most importantly, reading the reviews here. I don't think you do, or if you do, you don't care as the feedback seems pretty consistent. I recommend if a friend of yours reads this, that they have a chat to you about making some small improvements. They'll make a big difference. Good luck.

Absolutely terrible place to eat. The owners are super rude and nasty and the food wasn’t great either my hot dogs were over cooked and my lettuce was mouldy. I will not recommend this place to anyone
