Sagai Japanese Restaurant reviews
35Thank you for a lovely meal of Dumplings. They were really, really good. Sorry you are not open for much longer
Awesome service and owners and my food was delicious, the only critique I would make is it would be nice to see more fish dishes
Great service and a really nice meal which was great value. We were in a hurry and wait staff had our meal out very quickly. We will definitely be back
Had take away sushi. Ordered teriyake sushi, it was mushi almost like tuna. The mixed sushi was just as poor. First & last time I'll order from there. Also not a Japanese person in sight. Chinese lady and 2 kiwis around and about. Disappointed and feeling ripped off.
Amazing service thank yous very much.
Amazing food, great experience all round. Such a pleasure
AMAZING OKONOMIYAKI - I have only tried a takeaway from this place but I was very impressed. This is up with the very best okonomiyaki I have been able to find in New Zealand. Very friendly staff and lovely clean restaurant. I am looking forward to returning to try more Japanese food here. This is WAY WAY better than Gohan. LOVE IT!
I love the sushi here. They are the best in town. And I have tried all around. They also do great chicken kebab and streamed dumbling for lunch. Goes great with their miso soup.
Had Teppanyaki here twice and both were great experience. Super friendly staff. Love coming here for lunch or dinner.
A cosy atmosphere with happy staff. The meal was great. Recommend the Bento Box Teriyaki Chicken. Will certainly be back.
Food is nice, service is quick. Great for sharing plates. Portion sizes were good too.
Online ordering is really easy and quick, 15 minutes before you can pick up makes it faster than McDonald's
Very versatile disappointed I brought 100 dollars of dumpling and steam bun very disappointed
Wow 4 years with trust Sagai shop My son's for birthday party. Thank you and will support your shop every year.
We give you 4 stars because food was delicious.
Ordered 2 deluxe Bento boxes and everything was well cooked but felt could of been hotter.
Ordered for 6.45 pm and I got there 15 minutes earlier and was ready for pick up.
Hence why it was cold.
Service great
Service was great, plenty of options including takeaway. Prices are little high for what you get and taste wasn’t the greatest but wasn’t bad either. Definitely don’t regret eating there though. Good atmosphere.
Beware of HAIR in your food and argumentative, dishonest staff. This was my first and last takeout experience with Sagai - very disappointing customer service and probably the least authentic Japanese food I’ve ever (tried) to eat. Wasted $171 on pitiful portions, poor quality ingredients and meals that just looked and smelled unappetising. After finding hair in multiple meals, all 7 of us felt sick - it completely ruined my mum’s birthday dinner. That night I called the restaurant and they told me to bring the food back the next day for a partial refund - which I did. They immediately argued with me that some of the food had been eaten and that they would only refund me if the food was untouched. How they expected the food to be untouched is a mystery, considering you don’t generally inspect your meal to ensure it’s safe to eat (and hair-free) before you consume it. The fact that I returned two giant bags of uneaten food should have been enough. They also tried to pretend that they couldn’t see the hair in the sushi and assured me that their chefs wear hairnets… well, I think the photos speak for themselves. Managed to get a measly $52 back, even though they only wanted to refund me $17. This all could easily have been resolved without a screaming match and showing some respect and compassion. I hope they’ve learned their lesson on how NOT to treat customers.
A very nice Japanese restaurant in Blenheim. Thank you for being open up until 9pm on the 4th of January and taking the order at 8.20.and not hurrying us up. The chicken was fresh and crispy, good selection of dishes!
Ordinary and overpriced. A family run business charging a surcharge on the 1st January? Service ordinary, food ordinary and $102 for 3 adults and a child for lunch? Will not return.
Went to sagai for lunch with a couple of mates, it had pad thai and it had egg shells in it, we were not offered any drinks, my mate ordered a teriyaki crumb chicken meal, it took over 40 minutes before she got to have it, and we were the only cliental they had during our time there, the chicken had no flavour and it tasted liked peanuts and the waitress didn’t know she was serving and it is extremely over priced.
Ordered for online delivery; got my order wrong and I received pork ramen instead of chicken; which was bland. The mixed tempura, where I expected a decent mix of prawn and vegetable, was a mountain of vegetable tempura and a single prawn, which was easily the best part of the meal. Terrible, will not be getting food here again.
I went for sushi but it's the same flavour than takeaway sushi in a plastic box, the only difference is this sushi is more expensive, very poor service
Was looking forward having a nice Japanese meal and I thought this is a Japanese restaurant but unfortunately their Thai curry is better than their Japanese dishes.
