Food presentation poor. Coffee cold. Great premises. Prices on high side for what you get. Disappointing. Under new management. A hard working friendly owner. Totally recommend. Food excellent, prices good. A very yummy very large afghan a must.

Giant burger bacon egg and double dip chicken big patties with a lot of lettuce haven't been seen anywhere with fries at a reasonable price in cafes. I ate half and packed for my lunch journey.choices of gluten-free bread and French ciabatta.

Nice little place to enjoy a breakfast/lunch with friends and family or just to enjoy a coffee while reading a good book:)

The lady there is absolutely disrespectful. Halifax Cafe used to be great with hospitality but now the current management and staff is just revolting!

Unfortunately my order of an omelet was forgotten although only 3 tables were used at that time and my friend and I were the only ones with no food. I was given a slice of slice by way of apologies. On arrival the omelet had no cheese. On returning and asking for cheese it was dealt with very quickly Unfortunately although my omelet was added to with a second omelet and extra ham, still no cheese. The woman front of house was good and efficient and man cooking seemed stressed and struggling.
I've heard really good things about it and it was well priced with good drinks. I'm sure this was an off day

I recently visited again Halifax Cafe on Halifax Street, and I had a delightful experience. The chicken bacon burger dish I ordered was incredibly delicious, and the fries were perfectly crispy. The staff was not only friendly but also attentive, making the overall dining experience enjoyable. The cozy ambiance added to the charm of the cafe. I would definitely recommend Halifax Cafe for a satisfying meal and welcoming atmosphere.

Coffee was nice waited ages for a couple of coasts sandwiches no glasses for water no toilet paper not worth going to lots of people complain

Solid breakfast. Service was great. Coffee was decent. Much better than “sweet as cafe”. Would happily return.

We were a group of 4 who came for lunch. The service was very slow and the meals came out individually so we ended up all eating before and after the others.
Tables were sticky, water glasses were greasy … all in all a disappointing experience and I won’t be back

Bright and breezy! Cabinet food always looks tasty plus a menu of options straight from the kitchen. Avocado smash very popular here!

Needs a good clean, floor needs swept. Ordered eggs on white toast and recieved it with multigrain which my wife has alleges to seeds, this was corrected I had what was advertised at Avocado smash with eggs, toasted pumpkin seeds well the ½ Avocado was sliced put on plate with 5 pumpkin seeds and 2 very small eggs in which 1 was broken. I did mention the disappointment of what we recieved and the lady was happy to take away but I figure if you can't do a simple meal the 1st time why try again. When the coffee csme out the lady said hopefully ive made this hot enough for you, unsure the reason for this. Many other places to experience food and coffee in Nelson.

We came in on the 2nd of Jan and were pretty disappointed.

The food was very slow to come out and didn’t come out together, so the first person at our table of four was finished before the last person had been served. There seemed to be some confusion about which table had ordered what, and the waitress was calling out to tables from across the dining room to figure out which plate belonged to them which was weird and rude. The ceiling was also very dusty and the whole place felt like it needed a deep clean.

The food itself was fine, but not worth the markup they charge. There are plenty of other restaurants nearby that charge similar prices but deliver much better quality.

I hope things improve so I can come back and update this to a five star!

I think we must have visited on a bad day as all the other reviews are good. The good reviews are why we visited.

We were told it would be a 15 minute wait for breakfast, but we waited 40 only to be served uncooked waffles (very stodgy batter) and the hollandaise on my eggs Benedict was chilled. The eggs were good but the rest was very disappointing. Our guess is that the chief was off and the other staff were trying to cover for him/her.

The staff were lovely though, so not all bad.

Had time to open an article on my phone, read two lines and I was served my takeaway coffee, that was fast! A bit hot imo but still a good one, thanks!

Anniversary day, number of customers huge, number of staff, small. Result? Massive delays to unhappy clients who have already paid for their coffees/food

Lovely cafe with good food and one of the best coffee I have had in Nelson.
My coffee got cold and they were kind enough to prepare me a hot one at no additional cost.
The only complaint I have is that the plate I was served on wasn't clean.

I came here after walking by many times.
The staff were struggling with numerous customers while understaffed.
Despite this they were extremely polite and due to their service I'll happily be back

They guy working today is amazing! Give him a promotion. He's so happy and helpful, really brightened my day.

We used to visit very often. Went in there for a coffee on Tuesday afternoon. Cafe was empty. Service was rather frosty. The young lady made us feel not welcome. Very disappointing.

Tabletop was sticky. Staff complaining about each other loudly so patrons could hear. So little milk in an already small milk jug served with tea whichtook forever to arrive. Cheesecake was like eating rubber.
Definitely wont be back.
