Hopgoods Restaurant

The staff was friendly so that's good, but the service was very poor and very slow. Wayyy to noiseyyy for a fine dine.sounded more like a market place with no music. I reckon its a restaurant that's about quantity rather than quality. And for the money you pay, you consider that; quality service, quality steak, and just quality experience all up.

2 hours for 4 courses, just wanted to go home after my $44 steak wasn't upto to standard, not a great selection of beer would of been 4 stars but only got 3 when compared to $300 spent elsewhere

We had an amazing night at Hopgoods on Saturday 23rd July. The 5 course degustation was superb with excellent wine matches. Enjoyed cocktails also. Most of all the staff were so impressive. In challenging times everywhere with covid and staffing issues Hopgoods had top quality attentive knowledgeable staff.no shortage of lovely helpful people helping us to enjoy our evening. Would highly recommend Hopgoods. 10/10

We had one of the best meals in Nelson. From the moment we walked in and the server greeted us, then preceded to give us a gin tasting prior to ordering our gin cocktail, then a wine tasting to ensure we chose the perfect bottle of vino to match the food. Oh and then the food was delicious. The crayfish ravioli was juicy and sweet. The richness of the cheese soufflé was cut perfectly with the Temata estate Zara viognier! Our main choices were the confit duck leg and the fennel turbot. Both dishes were just epic. That turbot was one of the nicest fish dishes I’ve ever tasted. Highly recommend you visit Hopgoods next time you visit Nelson or live in Nelson!

Hopgoods is without a doubt the finest place to eat in Nelson. A fine dining experience with very friendly and welcoming staff. I found the waiters to be attentive, friendly and helpful. The food is next level.

Incredible food, friendly, laid-back atmosphere, did I mention the delicious food? We had the pork cheek, beef fillet, confit duck and tiramasu for desert. All of it was amazing. The truffle butter with the bread was a revelation. But what really made our night was the service. All of the staff were really warm and friendly, particularly Vicky, who made us feel like we were her life-long best friends. Would definitely recommend, will definitely go back next time we're in Nelson.

Hopgoods continues to be the best restaurant in Nelson by far. My wife & I tend to only visit on celebratory occasions and it never disappoints. We ate there again recently; the food was superb and the service excellent. Looking forward to our next special occasion!

We've been to some pretty good restaurants in our time and you run the risk of comparing really good ones and find that new restaurants you try come up wanting. So, although I had read good things about Hopgoods, my expectation was that it would be a good restaurant for a small town. How wrong could I be? This place is outstanding. From start to finish, this wasn't just a meal, it was an experience of what owners can do to make an evening perfect. Service was faultless. Kevin, our expert for the evening was phenomenal. He pitched the service absolutely perfectly. He was there when we wanted him, answered all of our questions, gave us suggestions and was unobtrusive the rest of the time but ever present. The food was exquisite. We had the tasting menu and were plied with 5 courses which we couldn't pick a favourite from; each was uniquely perfect. The wine had been expertly selected so that we were able to enjoy some amazing local products. It was a bittersweet realisation that I won't be able to return to this place for such a long time, our visit to Nelson being so fleeting. If you are in Nelson, and you can get a table, do NOT miss out. Ten Stars!

Mere words will never be enough to explain our experience of the 5 course degustation experienced at Hopgoods this evening.
From the welcome and table service to the impeccable dishes presented my tastebuds were tantalized and hopes exceeded with every course.
We did not try the wine matches this time but the Nelson Pinot was exceptional and complimented our meal to perfection.
All said, I ca not reccomend the degustation enough and happily share this experience to any and everyone.

One of the best meals I have ever eaten. Every element of every dish was perfectly flavoured and beautifully presented. And the waiter and wine waiter were both helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and entertaining. A very enjoyable evening and highly recommended
