The Boat Shed Cafe

Had dinner here last night and it really was amazing everything. We left the meal to the chef and had the chef’s choice - our waiter recommended wines with each course which were all spot on. The whole experience on a perfect Nelson summer evening basically as good as it gets. Thank you The Boat Shed for making this a very memorable birthday meal. We’ll definitely be back.

First time there today.oh my word.the food was high class! Prices reasonable, the location at the waterfront with its stunning views amazing and the friendly service superb! Would love to go again and try other dishes when back in Nelson. Well done! 10/10!

This place has the best food I ate on my Nelson trip.

Great location (close to airport and Nelson city), overlooking the water. Food was bomb. Had the baked mussels, focaccia w/ seaweed butter and ceviche with a few glasses of wine. It was divine.

Our favorite place in town. Consistently good and we were blown away with the recent trust the chef menu. The combination of flavors and texture. Every dish was cooked to perfection.

The Boat Shed was absolutely wonderful. We called them on during holiday in hopes they could fit us in. It was our 5 year anniversary and while they had no openings they made some place open on their deck, which is not part of their main dining areas.

The staff were so kind and really gave us a stellar experience. The wine they recommended was delicious and paired perfectly with our incredible meal. I'll be dreaming of the ceviche for years to come.

Had a lovely christmas lunch at The Boat Shed. It was a set menu but the staff were extremely accommodating with dietary changes to the menu. Food was delicious and staff were lovely. I am visiting from Perth, WA to spend christmas with my daughter and this was a lovely way to spend christmas lunch. I would definitely recommend The Boat Shed.

The atmosphere was great and the service exceptional but between the dish i had and the dish my friend has it was ok.

Definitely a highlight for Nelson cuisine. Expert wine pairings with stunning views. Come at sunset for a real treat.

Dined here for Christmas lunch after having such a delicious Christmas meal last year. Slightly disappointed as didn’t quite hit the highs of last year. Some of the dishes were under seasoned and scampi over cooked. These are only small details but would’ve made a big difference. Don’t let this put you off dining as we will certainly be returning.

Great food. Very much seafood focused. Coffees are brilliant. The view of the waterfront is magnificent

Fantastic view, above medium food, prices … you pay the view ;). If you are lucky, a regatta takes place just in front of your table, most likely SA or SU late mornings, early afternoons. Enjoy!

We tried the trust the chef tasting menu on new year's eve and it was really exquisite. The view by the water was stunning. The wait staff was knowledgable, especially in terms of the wine. Hats off to the chef and whole team! Highly recommend!

We did the trust the chef and have no regrets the food was amazing and glad we did it as we got to trust lots and didn't have to choose. As the menu looked so good we didn't know what to get!

Staff were excellent, pleasant and extremely helpful. Cocktails need a bit of finessing. Food was delicious and well presented. Coffee very good.

Terrific restaurant with amazing views over the bay (book and ask for a table by the window!). Fish and seafood here were superb, as was the treacle pudding. Reasonably good wine list. Staff friendly and helpful, but not too attentive. Fantastic restaurant I would highly recommend. You need to book in advance.

I was amazed of the service and the out standing fresh well put together menu it would be one of my new go to places in nelson booked for tomorrow night as well out standing veiws service and food perfectly cooked 10 out of 10 thankyou my first time there and I'm born and bread Nelson I would recommend the boat shed to everyone

Food was nice however small portions for the cost. Staff were relaxed and gave very good service. They did start to run out of wine glasses and asked if we had finished with ours so they could re use them. Beautiful views looking out to the Harbour and island.

Came here for my 29th last week - what an absolute treat! Delicious raw oysters, ceviche, seaweed butter, whole flounder and snapper! Best seafood in Nelson. Love the female waitress who knew so much about the food and even convinced us to get dessert after all our other dishes

Customer service was terrible. Waitress insisted my husband ordered something he didn't. He eventually accepted the dish as it was becoming quite embarrassing. At the end of the meal, my 13 year old didn't quite understand how the menu was laid out and ordered what was a part of a dessert, rather than the dessert. Instead of explaining to the youngster, the waitress laughed at him. Being 13, he was mortified. Not a pleasant evening.
