Fat Camel Cafe reviews
41The service was friendly, fast, and professional thank you for the wonderful lamb pita and excellent coffee.
Oh man! The food was so delicious! So much flavour and I was very full after. Great portion size and awesome service! Their coffee is always great as well! Love the vibe!
Food was not nice and very expensive for what it was. Very bland. Some of the most tasteless food I’ve ever had. I’ve had Israeli cuisine before - usually more pickle, flavour and freshness. This was not a good example. Also leak in the toilet from the rain. They did provide some discount, which was appreciated.
The food is amazing but I can't see how they justify paying $50+ for some meat on rice when it is delivered by deliver easy. A complete rip off.
Nice and Small restaurant. Reasonable price for good portion meal. We like the friendly and kind owner.will come back
I have only tried the Coffe so I can't vouch for anything else, but the coffee is really good. I had cappuccino and long black, both were nice. The cappuccino cups are of the right size and shape.
Amazing food, awesome selection for vegans and carnivores alike. Friendly courteous staff. Highly recommended
We had the chicken pita pocket and smoked salmon bagel. Chicken shawarma pita pocket was particularly delicious and flavourful, generous portion (though more hummus would have been wonderful). Friendly staff and good service, highly recommend to anyone coming to Whangarei!
Couldn't decide what to have. A bit out of our normal so took a stab in the dark. Absolutely beautiful
I've dined at the fat Camel many times and always come away with a great experience.
This weekend Idan and the Team surpassed themselves!
I booked the "function room"for my beter half's" big birthday celebration.
Idan took care of everything. Following a brief meeting where we discussed food options and numbers i turned up on Saturday lunchtime with birthday girl.the guests were hiding round the back (Thank you Mark and Tereza for coordinating!) and then everything went like clockwork.
Staff turned up to take drinks orders, food was brought out on platters and distrubuted across the tabled (all nicely organised for our guests) and all we had to do was anjoy the food, the atmosphere and the drinks - and did I mention the food?
Wow! The party boxes I ordered were just awesome - and great value - check them out on the menu.
Tiina had the best time and I felt like the hero for organising it, but in reality it was the Fat Camel team that made it all happen.
Thanks Guys!
We've eaten here a lot over the years and it's our popular lunch place when we visit Whangarei, and a cafe we've recommended to many friends. In the past, we've found it a tasty and economical choice with a real culinary difference. Sadly, our latest visit was a bummer. Our waiter had only been working for 4 days and couldn't tell us anything about the menu. We usually get a large sharing plate of vegetarian goodies and some snacks, which does it for the two adults and two kids, who basically just eat the chips and pita bread. But this time we couldn't find any such plate, so we ordered a humus platter with falafel balls ($24.50), fries ($12), extra haloumi and drinks. The humus platter turned out to be entree size and in our opinion, vastly overpriced. Ditto the fries, which at $12 for a less than generous serving was very disappointing. I get that food establishments are doing it tough with rising costs and that they're finding it hard to find good staff, but this was a special outing for us and we felt really let down. With this kind of food adequate guidance is necessary but we felt almost abandoned, and with a large-sized hole in our wallets and still hungry. Consumers like us are feeling the cost-of-living crisis too and despite the challenges, cafes have to provide a positive experience for their customers, or they simply won't survive. We certainly can't afford to go back to our old favourite for a while, and don't feel inclined to.
Wonderful oasis, delicious and made with love. Super surprised to find this here in Whangarei, What ever you need Idan will look after you, totally recommend
We found the food really expensive, undercooked and inauthentic. I think people reviewing this with anything more than 2-3 stars have no idea what it’s meant to taste like.
A great cafe in a quiet cobbled pedestrian area. The vegetarian omelette was the best I've had in a while and came with a salad and 4 different condiments (Mediterranean style).
A real surprise find. Had morning tea there, and enjoyed so much returned an hour later for lunch, beautifully cooked and delicious. Staff friendly and helpful. Loved the camel on the coffee. J & R from Tauranga
Fat Camel Café is a real gem located in a tiny pedestrian street. We had some quick lunch and didnt really expect much. We experienced great hospitality and had some delicious falafel rounded up by some fresh lemonade.
For the price paid: I'd say it's a pretty good deal! Would definitely go there again.
Abashedly overpriced.
And the food was greasy and not as jaw dropping as the price. We both didn't feel very good after the meal, heavy to digest. But the falafel balls themselves where fantastic.
Awesome cafe, amazing food, super friendly staff. We stopped here on Boxing Dad, and this was a great find! The food was absolutely delicious, the best pita ever. And a great selection of cakes with excellent coffee.
Expensive for what you get. Save your $5 extra for Gluten Free and just order a normal pita with no pita as that's all you get. Otherwise meat was good but salads nothing special.
Food was amazing, so delicious and also healthy! Service was great, will certainly be back!
