Mangawhai Tavern

One of the best berf burgers i have had in a while the fries were nice and crisp. Washed down with a decent pale ale.

Great location, I ordered fish n chips, the chips were good but I didn't enjoy the fish. I'll order something else if I go there again.

Good tavern, although really expensive at $14 a pint. Food is okay, we had fish and chips and a burger. Good sized portions, the burger was a bit over seasoned and the fish a bit under. But what you'd expect at a pub. Some menu options were v expensive, but our choices in the mid-late $20s. The service was excellent, extremely friendly and accommodating staff. Great location.

Loved meeting the locals. On Saturday morning market. There was also a live band, which creates a warm atmosphere. Fresh baked bread.

Great food, fantastic service. Really friendly hard working staff. Enjoy our visit everytime. Could do a little work on the parking, those pot holes are getting deeper.

I don't think that market day (Saturday) is a good time to go for a quiet meal in the garden.

Booked a table for six. Great night was had by all of us. The new menu was (for us) a big improvement, and the meals were generous and cooked to perfection.

Attended the local Saturday Markets situated at the Tavern and stopped in for a quick beer. I guess it depends what experience you are after. The building and location are beautiful but if you are after that pub with its locals and atmosphere you may not experience this

Great service and even better food. All the meals including the share plates were very generous servings. Everything was cooked to perfection and great flavours. The ribs could have been a bit more saucy but still delicious nonetheless.

It's a great spot, you don't actually get much better but. The music the staff put on is absolutely awful, like cringey!

Have good selection of drinks and munchies food. Best when outside and band playing. Inside is dated and has the usual beer on the floor smell (not overwhelming - just typical public bar). Friendly staff. Saturday morning the place hums with the local market happening.

We went to the market in the tavern and although it was very small it was very cozy. I would have loved to see a Latin store but it is not always possible. Very welcoming and nice people.

New ownership and a new chief have turned this place into a delightful dining/drinking joint. Especially good lunching outside on a sunny weekend.

Great Place, Great Staff and Magic Food. The Team are working hard and doing their very upmost to ensure everyone gets a table during these trying times. (thanks covid you D.) They have very much stepped up to the challenge, and even though flat-out on managing bookings and ensuring adherence to Red (aka STOP LIGHT) conditions.are very sad in turning people away, they remain up beat and continue to deliver the flavors from the kitchen and not to forget something chilled to wash it down with. Cheers Team.we all look to the day when all this is behind us. Meantime, keep cool, carry on.)

I went there for lunch and ordered the pork belly bites and a green salad, everything would have been fine except the skin on the pork belly should be crisp and crunchy like crackling, but it was more like rubber and the bites were swimming in a watery sauce, which is not what you expect when you order pork belly, it should be on its own. I wouldn't say it was a disaster but for the fact they got the most important and essential aspect of the whole dish wrong. I would still recommend this pub though for the location and the service which is excellent.

Well people eating out tonite.if u r up in the North.highly recommend u take r detour to the Mangawhai Tavern.top marks to the Chef's.excellent food & presentation. Entree. Battered Oysters, Pork Belly Bites with Peking Sauce, Apple & Asian Pickle. Main Meal. Fish & Chips, Old School Beer Batter, Fresh Fish, Chips & Homemade Tartare Sauce with r side dish of Salad.lots of other meals.

Best Laska I've ever had (though not cheap). Seafood was very fresh. Nice seating inside and out. Good service.

Delicious food, great service and staff with a stunning venue that allowed us to bring our dogs. Will definitely be back again!

Great spot, if you can sit outside. Food is pretty good, particularly from the sharing plates menu, although the ribs from the other menu were scrumptious. Overall, would come again, especially when there is live music.
Recommend booking during the busy season as you definitely want a table outside. Inside is dark and trab and no effort had been put into making it nice.

Food was surprisingly good for a tavern! Just just your regular burgers and fries, but a real good range of dishes! Helpful staff too. Would visit again!
