Food was average, coffee was pretty decent with good silking of the milk. We ordered 3 meals, 2 were okay but the vegetarian breakfast was underwhelming. The avo smash that was mentioned in the menu was nothing more than a thin spread of the commercial puree straight from a tube or jar, perhaps they ran out of real avocado! The wilted spinach mentioned in menu was a large handful of raw spinach instead, haphazedly piled on top.

I visited those place on Saturday although the meal was substantial and generous. The food was served warm not hot.
While I understand that holidays can pose a problem with staff issues.
That is no excuse for serving food warm I am to say very disappointed in the chefs and they need to set the pass lights a little lower or get food out faster.

Had to come and comment on the lovely staff! So welcoming and so friendly just a joy to visit. Staff can make or break a business, the staff here are truly a great asset!

Overall a very standard cafe, not bad and not especially good. Coffee was decently done.

All my friends got fairly well sized portions when ordering chicken salads and pulled pork sandwiches. I ordered the hash stack with salmon and got a hilariously small portion, especially when plated next to everyone else.

A single, lonely egg perched on my stack next to a quarter of an avocado (the menu says 1/2) along with a sliver of smoked salmon hidden between my hash browns. This size was not remotely reflected in the price.

All in all, an 'ok' experience with a dissatisfying undertone.

If you are craving a Greek salad and Lamb kebaab, I would highly recommend this Café. Nice, nice, nice.

I love this place! The food is great, I have tried most of their menu by now and have enjoyed everything I ordered. The service is awesome, always friendly and onto it. They make a mean Iced coffee and Iced Chocolate.

Sorry, it didn't save my review:

The coffee was good, and cakes were absolutely lovely- the dessert cabinet in general looks fantastic (and the interior remodelling looks nice too). The breakfasts were a bit disappointing though. I had the hash stack with salmon. Taste was good, but the hash was pretty sad- for starters, the portion was tiny, but they were quite literally two little hashbrowns from supermarket that I have in my freezer at home. Not really what I expect from a breakfast out. My sister had vegetarian breakfast which she was happy with, although she missed that it didn't come with eggs (that's on her reading skills).

I will happily be back for cake and coffee, but I'm not happy paying a top buck for a frankly mediocre cooked meal.

Been coming here for years and has always been good - until today. My wife ordered 2 x mushrooms on toast, and was served 2 x mushroom sides. These are taken away and reappeared with some toast - by now the mushrooms were cold and congealed. We are also told we had another $15 to pay, and that it was my wife’s mistake. Really poor service when this sector needs all the help it can get. Oh well, we’ll have to find somewhere else to eat in future

The best cafe in Whangarei. If we go anywhere else we are always disappointed. Great coffee, delicious food and and friendly staff. Just like their adverts say! The outlook over the boats at the Town Basin is a bonus.

This place is pumping today - a cloudy Saturday morning. The staff are going flat our taking orders, bringing trays of coffee and delicious food, clearing and moving tables, greeting regulars. They are on to every detail. Festive atmosphere and the courtyard buzzes with conversation. Ka rawe Mokaba!

We have visited twice this trip to Whangarei so far and the food and coffee is worth it every time. The setting is great to relax and enjoy coffee or a meal.

I have to say that the new renovations have made for much smoother & more relaxing indoor dining. (no longer any dish stacking sounds) which never kept us away all the same as the place has always been welcoming & enjoyable for getting with others.
I haven't had many of the meals to rate the food fairly but I would have liked to add a half star to my 3 which means 'very good' to me.
Always has been & is a very good welcoming service.
A high five to the noticeably exceptional long term waitress.

Good food at a good price. The only difficulty is that there is no table service so you need to queue up to order if it's busy. Pretty relaxed atmosphere.

The worst scrambled eggs on toast I've ever had. Taste was awful and watery. I ended up eating only 1 slice of toast and left the eggs on the plate. Another customer from the table opposite us had the same problem, left his un eaten scrambled eggs. Also, a big slice of butter should be placed on the side of the dish and not on the toast.

Nice muffins, wud love it if you had hired me for that kitchen job, all the best to the person who did!

Good coffee, spoiled by the fact the tables were not wiped down after clearing, while I was there, and the person taking orders was not wearing the mask correctly, so the nose was visible and some times it slipped down a bit further.

Dear All Staff at Mokuba,

A friend and I came to Whangarei for 4 days to see the new Hundertwasser Museum which as you know is fab. On the first day we had fish and chips for lunch at Mokuba and then today Sunday 27 March we had Brunch. Absolutely fabulous. Food and coffee of the highest quality and staff and service exceptional. Keep it up you have absolutely the right formula and professional service. Thank you so much. Jane Lambert

Yummy food. Awesome setting. Great views over the boats and water. Both seating indoor and outdoor. Great place to be on a beautiful day. Good to stop at after walking around the Town Basin Loop for a cold refreshments
