Reality is it was a bed for the night
No smoke alarms, dusty, no cutlery, sky box hanging behind the TV.
Was advertised as a queen deluxe room but was anything but.

Rooms were dark, the deck felt a bit dodgy, lights were not working outside, when we were there, it was raining, so when we had to walk outside on the deck, there was no working light and the deck was broken in some areas. There was one light in the bathroom which didn't reach the shower, so when you close the curtain when showering, there wouldn't be any light coming through. We arrived in the evening so it wasn't great having a shower in the dark. The place wasn't that clean, cobwebs everywhere and towels were old and fraying. Felt a bit grubby. The only thing that was good, was the beds. They were comfortable. Not alot of options to go eat out as the town closed early. We ended up driving to Mcds to get dinner. KFC is across the road but he service was slow, too many people were waiting to be served, so opted to get into our car and go Mcds.

The rooms need some work and an update - but the restaurant is stellar! The Hereford Scotch Filet steak was the BEST most delicious steak I have ever eaten in my life - seriously! It was that good. Well done!

Unfortunately this place has become very tired. The rooms have no smoke alarms now just the holders where they used to be. Lovely staff.

Place was great and service was very good, and a huge thumbs up for the air conditioning in the rooms, we were happy with our stay here

The motel needs an upgrade the rooms looked like theyve been the same since 20years ago, a few of my friends had been bitten either bed bugs or fleas

Comfortable rooms. Staff very helpful. Restaurant food was amazing. Baileys icecream to die for.

We only stayed 1 night.
The room was small and cramped, shower and toilet were not clean with a lot of mould. Towels in desperate need of replacement and the smoke alarm is about to fall off.
Microwave and fridge had not been wiped out.
Renovations definately needed especially for the price!

This was the state of the soap dish in the shower of our room! Not good at all. Very dated place but the bed was comfy. Linen and towels were good quality. Dined at the restaurant and the meal was really good, except they put chilli? Salt on my chips which made them inedible for me. Nice friendly girl at reception.

The frontline service here is friendly and helpful. The rooms are small but comfortable from the bed to the side chairs. Aircon, lovely pool, bbq area, comfy bed and pillows, food and bar. Very good price for such amenities and service.

Beautiful service and food. Excellent effort made with food presentation and quality. Only downside is the decor hasn't been changed since the 60s and the, what looks like, asbestos ceiling. Overall, a great place to eat maybe not so great to dine.

Came to see family unexpectedly rang up Saturday for a room for Sunday got th last one. Check in was fine he was friendly. Got to room fine didnt expect air con which was heaven in summer first time me coming to kaitaia for the night great service, nice room access to pool, wifi didnt eat here as KFC is across the road. Payed for what you get and I have no complaints

One of my worst experiences in New Zealand. (judging by other comments it might have had a change of staff recently?)

Chekin was absolute nonsense with people at the reception having trouble with English AND struggling on finding the right key for the room.

Room itself was okish, even if not fully clean (7 spiders inside.), but that somehow comes with nature.

Biggest issue was noise, you could hear everything all around (other rooms, people outside simply walking, cars. Even with windows closed), at 7am some random water started flowing so loud that it made it imposible to sleep, and at 8am staff knocked to ask if it was our water running (which clearly, wasn't).

To remark positives, it has a decent pool for a fast refresh and the staff that actually spoke English was polite despite the situation.

Honestly, I'd avoid sleeping here again unless it was my only eligible option within an hour drive, sad to see so many old good reviews and find such a different place, maybe we were extremely unlucky but our experience was simply awful.

Six of us went for a meal, each & everyone of us were totally impressed with our meals, the steak, the lamb shanks, & even the childrens menu were awesome! Great, friendly service, thank you

Charged us more money than was prearranged as in doubled the price. Small old tacky rooms. Would never ever stay there again. Horrible owner, should not be in hospitality industry in new zealand.

Extremely comfortable. Scrupulously clean. Warm welcome. Make sure you dine in. The chef is amazing. Country cooking with flair.

Stayed 2nd Nov. I would not let my dogs stay there.room was paru smelt like urine, toilet wasn’t cleaned, badly stained chairs, kitchen area was omg disgusting.definitely wouldn’t recommend. Lucky it was only one night. Definitely not worth $169. We had family room. #18

I was not staying here, but was lucky enough to get a table for myself (as travelling for work) and am I glad I came here! Most delicious lamb shank with bacon, creamy mushroom sauce and veggies. Super delicious and great size! Will definitely be recommending this place to colleagues and family when visiting! Thank you!

Had a birthday dinner there with family and friends and really enjoyed the food that was had. Good nite.

Wow I've never been to such a poorly run motel.manager has no idea. Asked manager of restaurant very politely if mum and i would be offered a drink with our meal after 5 minutes of ordering our meal and after being told there avertisted restaurant was closing after 45 minutes of being open on Saturday night and the manager accused me of abusing him, he said it so loud the restaurant heard how embarrassing. The photos are not what the seem, run down motel, would not recommend to anyone. Really disappointed. 0 stars I've been to back packers with better rooms and KFC across the road has better service.
