Otehei Bay reviews
55Lovely place, would have been better if the sun was shining but you can't have everything. Fabulous walks and views. Definitely recommend
Sensational location. There is a limited menu but it's prepared in good time and the food is tasty. The bar service was super quick. There was a good range of beers to choose from.
A stop over on the way to the hole in the rocks. Probably would have been better if it wasn't raining.
Our family and kids plus a friend (who traveled all the way from overseas to stay in Auckland for a week) went to Otehei island. We were assured by the Ferry staff that Kayaking would be available to hire. Paid over $300 for the ferry tickets and took 40mintues with a very sea sick kid.
We arrived Otehei Bay around 12pm via the Ferry. Had quick lunch and went to the only activity on the island (Kayaking hiring). 6 of us asked 3 times and we were told the business was closed as he (the owner) decided to go fishing now. But it was only 12: 30 not closing time yet so I told him will make a complaint, as we double checked before purchasing the ferry tickets that definitely has kayaking on the island. 3 kids on the island until 5: 45pm without any activity. What a waste of time and money! 5 minutes later, another group of tourists went to him and hired kayaking from him! He changed his mind! So we went again and he said he can hire to anyone he feels like, and he asked me to apologize to him otherwise no kayaking (he wasn’t happy that I said to make a complaint). No sorry from me and he didn’t hire us the kayaking. Very childish and ridiculous. We ended up swimming in the sea for 5.5 hours until the return ferry arrived! Consider carefully before your trip. Simply nothing to do on this island if this Kayaking guy decided to go fishing in the middle of the day….
Brilliant location, limited menu as expected with a clientele getting off the boat with limited time.
We anchored here for one night. When we were settled we rowed ashore to the cafe for a sundowner and a bite to eat. Lovely spot to relax. As the sun went down the chorus from birds in the bush was next level! Highly recommend this place.
Place was beautiful, nice ambience to chill and relax. Fullers greatsight was such a nice experience going to Otehie bay. You can also go walk around the area with good views.
We stopped here as part of the Hole in the Rock cruise. Most scenic and beautiful island with very few people. Made for a brilliant short walk and photos. The restaurant was nice - we noticed such a nice thing with the cruise crew also helping out in the restaurant as they were short of staff.
This place is just beautiful. We arrived here after our Hole on the Rock cruise around the bays.
Otehei Bay is a must see. Take a cruise here, hop off for a few hours and catch the boat back in the early evening. A peaceful setting, heaps of seats and bean bags to sit on.
There's a bar and bar snacks. Ice creams and ice blocks. A 15 minute walk up the hill to view the sites and 15 minute walk back.
Just exquisite, calm, quiet, perfect place to chill for a bit and the water was crystal clear and warm
The location is tops and the staff and crew on Dolphin seeker are fantastic. 10/10. Highly recommend!
Beautiful and peaceful place, there is also a cafe/pub that you may have a nice small food, or enjoy the beautiful beach while sipping from your coffee cup or bear bottle.
Loved the cruise and the short stay at this small island. We took the bean bags to enjoy tea near the beach which seemed perfect option, being a bit away from the crowded cafe.
Amazing spot, but only a bar snacks menu, the salt and pepper deep fries squid and salad was the best looking meal, only one choice of tap beer. There were bean bags and tables outside. Seems underutilized as a venue. Caters to the day trippers on tour boats only, not open for dinner.
Awesome little cafe bar with amazing kumara wedges. Beautiful island walks, breathtaking views of the Bay of Islands
You can not go past this place for locatiin location location.cold beer in absolute paradice and if your clever youbwill keep a crust or 2 and feed the giant pet snapper that hang around the wharf.keeps the kids amused for hours.we even saw a very rare Banded Rail (its a bird) grabbing a cheeky feed from the left overs accidentally dropped on the lawn.
Great stopover. Despite it being busy the service was great and staff were helpful. Good beer and good snack food. Can't complain.
Amazing escape from the busy nz cities. Ferry every 90 mins depending on passenger numbers, amazing cafe and camp ground for overnighters. Clean water too
Loved the tranquil of the bay and lovely welcoming hospitality of the restaurant people.loved it. Surely coming back here soon for a longer time.
The line to pay for your food is so LONG. Most food is self serve so by the time you get to the front to pay your food is cold. Needs to be a better system for staffing. Was only one staff member serving customers at till (taking payments) while other staff were standing around pretending to do work or trying to look busy. Just wasn't a good experience overall.
