Tai Tong Chinese Restaurant reviews
55Steamed dumplings were the best part of the order. Sadly the spring rolls did seem to be out of a frozen supermarket pack as previously suggested. Small portions which is ok we were not over hungry. Popcorn was average. Doubt we will re visit
Had dinner with my partner at the restaurant tonight for the first time and we were so pleasantly surprised at the fantastic quality of the food and the lovely service. We ordered a whole steamed snapper, eggplant with minced pork, and braised tofu with veggies. All the dishes were outstanding but the fish was the best - fresh, delicate, and cooked to perfection. Ava our server was wonderful and the restaurant was cozy and beautifully set up - the owners have obviously put some thought into the decor and ambience. So happy to have found an authentic Cantonese restaurant in Whangarei - can't recommend it enough!
Leval 3 lockdown we decided to treat ourselves to takeaway at Tai Tong. We were not disappointed with our choice for tonight's dinner.
Fabulous service and delicious food. Cheers team
Hands down the best Chinese Restaurant & Takeaway in Whangarei, perhaps all of NZ. The food is always top notch and the service is even better. Like many others have said, the honey chicken in particular is a stand out dish.
Ordered takeaway. Food below average. Sweet and sour pork dish was half full of rice, I didn't order rice totally unexpected. Disappointing.
Excellent service and taste! We love the Chinese restaurant! We will be back when we get back whagarei next time
Horrible food experience. Bacon and egg burger had egg shells and old lettuce in it. Smorgasbord was also a let down egg tasted like burnt frying pan and the rice was old and hard. $30 meal not happy customer.
Excellent food and choice. Staff attentive- order delivered to table quickly. Warm on a cold night. Highly recommend.
My husband's favorite place for dinner. Prompt service, and see great be did at a be reasonable price. The sizzling beef in rainbow sauce is delicious.
If you like a English style Curry try the special Curry and the ribs are great not sure if it's the same chief but I used to ask for the English Curry
This time, we got takeaways only. Just as good and tasty as sitting in, just a little more convenient after a long week.
Lovely staff. Quiet for dine in.
Very tasty meals. Loads of meat.
Will definitely be back again.
Have only tried the smorgasbord, by that standard I would say the rest of the food range would be pretty much the same, which is excellent.
Professional service and great quality food. You can even see into the kitchen. Probably the best Chinese takeaway in Whangarei atm. They seem to care about what they do. Easy carparking in the public park next door.
Went here with a large party at around midday and practically had the place to ourselves. Which is both great and a crying shame as this place makes amazing food and deserves to have more people though the doors. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced for the portion sizes you get. My personal favourites were the crispy roast pork and the BBQ pork buns, but everything we were given was great. The variety of meat vegetable and fish dishes was fantastic and means that there is something for everyone in your group to enjoy. The staff were friendly, attentive and the service was fast. Would recommend to anyone local looking to give yum cha/dim sum a try. 10/10
Overall it was a good meal.
Pros:
The sweet and sour pork was amazing.
The soy chicken was amazing.
The stir fry was amazing.
Cons:
The spring rolls were 99% pastry with 2 small slivers of carrot and cabbage.
The egg foo young was tainted, and tasted like something was previously burnt.
The wontons were mostly pastry.
The noodles were a little oily and a bit hard.
The food was amazing. Hands down best Chinese I’ve had in a while! Ordered the chicken corn soup, the black pepper beef, the chicken chow mein, spring rolls and egg flower soup! Omg all delicious! Spring rolls were light and fluffy home made and not shop bought. They let us have late lunch when they were actually closed! Staff were amazing very attentive! Love this place for Chinese food!
Chef Marcus, Makes amazing Kung pau chicken,
And everything else in menu is excellent tasting food.
Extremely clean. Food was so fresh! Delicious Chinese. Served by one of staff members (during level 2) to avoid "contamination". Well worth eating here.
10/10 for yum char. Much better than auckland and cheaper. Atmosphere was way more relaxed, service was friendly. $59 for 3 of us. Definitely making this a regular visit.
