The Blue Door Paihia

That was the most disappointing seafood platter I’ve ever had, the calamari was not fresh, they didn’t have any oysters so they said we would get extra scollops, which they forgot to put on the platter and when they did come out there were only four scollops and they weren’t cooked so they had to recook them, it was just very disappointing, definitely not worth $99, the service was not great either our waiter looked liked he didn’t even want to be there.

Will not be coming back unfortunately.

After being long term locals of Paihia we moved to Australia, but returned this Summer to visit and thought we would try out The Blue Door. We were highly fond of the previous business so we could not wait to try out the new menu and restaurant.

… It totally blew us away! The service was great with such friendly staff.we were told of a potential wait for food which we happily accepted, yet the food still arrived faster than advised (A great touch to just let people know if there is a wait!) and these guys did just this.

When our food arrived the flavours were such a taste sensation! And freshest fish and pork belly to die for. Upon meeting the owners we could see they are genuine restauranters who are proud of their service and food and this shows. These guys will thrive in this place and we can’t wait to return! New owners of this cafe have modernised the menu and the vibe of this great all weather venue. They know how to make coffee! Most importantly the cafe is dog friendly and nothing is ever a problem for the staff. Recommend you give it a try.

We had a great time here! We just wanted a small bite to eat and the small plates were perfect for sharing three between the two of us. Also please try the warm pudding for dessert!

Had the Fish and Chips / Mango Chili Margarita.

The food was delicious, breading on the Fish was great. The Margarita couldve used crushed ice but was still delicious.

The decor of this place is very inviting.

Came here based on the positive reviews. It must've been a one off night, because the service was not great.

There was a waitress who stated it was her second day. It was clear that she was not trained and kind of just thrown into the mix and was over whelmed. That didn't bother us, as we have all been in that situation.

What really troubled me, was that was another gentleman whom may have been a manager that also didn't seem to care that she was struggling till we said something and only then did he decide to help wait tables.

Finally some vegan food in the Northland! The starters were delicious! Unfortunately they didn’t have artichoke so the risotto was also with beetroot which was good but not really tasty!

I ordered a $28 wagyu brisket burger. It was flavourless and the chips did not appear to be hand cut like the menu promised. I left a lot of the meal. Very disappointing.

Enjoyed our 12th wedding anniversary lunch here today. Great food, drinks & hats off 2 the awesum staff especially our waiter Johnny, u guys rock!

We were very pleased with the fast service, menu variety and enjoyed a tasty lunch with beers at The Blue Door.
I thought it was very considerate that staff suggested and prepared a beetroot substitute in the vegan risotto, due to artichokes being out of season.
The restaurant was quiet - a very peaceful lunch in the alfresco with views of the bay.

One of best food in Pahia. Food was awesome and delicious. Service was out of question. Food at blue door are full of flavours. Staff is friendly and helpful. Overall my dine in experience was world class. Highly recommended.

How do you discover a top quality new eatery? Through the coffee of course! The attitude and competency of every element of my dining experience has been top notch. This business is in relatively new hands, and I predict a thriving success. Couldn’t have asked for more. All the best to our gracious hosts for the future.

The food was AMAAAAZING! We had steak and sea food chowder. Both were ON POINT - perfectly cooked, juicy and most definitely scrumptious! I highly recommend.

The food, drink and service is exceptional. The favour and portions of the main meals and desserts are perfect. We have been there many times and I highly recommend this place.

Newer owners.dont underestimate the menu.prawn and fish bites was fresh seafood with the most amazing sauce. Staff were very pleasant. Highly recommended.

Very welcoming and friendly. We had the pita with lamb. Very tasty dish. The cappuccino is perfect.

Better than last time. Music was a bit off putting, bluetooth connection kept on cutting out. Great it was a first table so made it affordable.
Service was great.

The personal were really friendly.
Drinks, starters and duck salad was also nice.
For me it is really irritating to put soba noodles in big plates section when the portion would be also quite little for a starter. 27$ for 20g of noodles (bought not homemade) 5-6 edamame beans and a little bit of other vegies is just a rip off. The miso base was quite salty and not in a tipically miso way. The miso brouth as it laked in taste and colour of a miso brouth / soba noodle soup.
As it was a rainy and cold night I was looking forward to a nice soup but was a little bit overwhelmed by how little I got for my money.
I hate to write bad reviews when I did not speak to the staff at the restaurant (wich I dislike as well and normally never do) but they cook as well as service know that such a dish is just a rip off as the used ingredients cost nothing.
Change the effort and amount of the suba noodle soup or just take it off the menu (or mention that is more kind of a starter than a "big dish")
