The Duke is like travelling back in time. It should be on Lonely Planet.
Unbelievable decor.
Our waitress was Japanese and her manaaki was extraordinary.
And the food!
OMG! The food!
The burger was out if this world.
And the chips?
Unbelievable!
We tortured it with a Marsden Estate Chardonnay, one of the best in Aotearoa.
Not a hotel. This place is an experience!

Loved the Billtong Fish! And non-alcohol mocktails, great decaf espresso too. Loving the decor. Thank you!

It's one of our favourite places. Once again we weren't disappointed. Added bonus of being a beautiful sunny day to enjoy the view. Very sad to see so few people there, partly as it was mid week but probably mostly because visitors are nowhere to be seen due to the impact of covid restrictions - particularly preventing travel through or from Auckland

We decided to celebrate by brother's birthday at this historical restaurant over at Russell. It came highly recommended and the views were stunning.

However, this couldn't be further from the truth. My brother had the steak and it was cooked well and very tasty.

My brother's partner had the fish of the day which was tuna. Everything was going well until we got home and 4 hours later, it went downhill from there. My brother's partner got Diarrhea and ended up going to the toilet several times that night. Truly unexpected and disappointed coming from such a restaurant.

I had the pork ribs and that too wasn't as great. Firstly, it was dry and over cooked. The sauce was not too bad but it couldn't save the ribs from what it actually was. Dry and dead!

Overall, the experience and celebrations ended with a bad taste in our mouth and I can't really say if I could even recommend this restaurant.

I could definitely serve up a much better meal with my skills so I think this place needs to buck up and work a little harder on its menu.

Sadly after informing them about the bad fish they didn't even offer anything and no service recovery in any way. For that, you probably deserve ZERO stars but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

An Institution and must visit in Russell! Friendly service, great atmosphere and views from the Terrace however food quality tends to be inconsistent.

Front staff who greet and do the reservations great. Everyone else who work there nice. Never greeted by owner strange think he d be friendlyto people who support his hotel. Old bar man rude and a chip on his shoulder.

Terrible stay. Room 124 (windows painted in so room was a bit smelly) had a generator outside going all night. Went and spoke to the night porter. He was hiding in the office. When he eventually came out he said, `ill switch it off` this was 3am. Then it kept coming back on. We left at 6am. Female Duty Manager gave us a refund and wasn`t that interested. You come away to have a better sleep! We booked for 3 nights. Wrote a polite letter to the Duke but never received a reply. Owners have no class! This was first weekend in June.

Majestic place, you taste the history. We listened to the amazing Warkworth Big Band there during the Jazz and Blues festival this weekend. Loved the set up and all those different old chairs. Good food too.

Pink gives the best light. So the diningroom at the Duke of Marlborough is a fitting place to relax and enjoy fine food and wine. Have a rosë to complete the picture.

Big improvement from previous owner, but beds too narrow compared to similar quality hotels. Very poor vegetarian dinner options, but meat/fish good. No marmalade at breakfast! Good service, ambience, history, location, cleanliness. Great views from the 'best' rooms.

Food used to be great but quite disappointed with the menu and food now, gone all 'funky' and a bit weird, definitely will not bother again, even the burger was well below average, the bun well over done, weird filling, only the meat and chips worth eating

The iconic Duke of Marlborough sits right in the waterfront in Russell and affords wonderful dining room views of the bay. The decor is a walk back in history and the food is delicious, well presented and obtained locally wherever possible. You can’t get much fresher seafood from wharf to kitchen to plate! The staff are friendly and very accomodating and rooms were clean and beautifully presented. Highly recommend the experience!

We used to come here all the time for Sunday brunch. Tables out by the beach or a favorite. Not sure what happened but seems like geriatric drunk people are the norm here now. I think the Duke knows this and is exploiting their patrons. I mean really if you can't taste good food why serve it? Right? Disappointing to say the least!

Inconsistent and overpriced. Been there a few times now and the same dishes keep getting smaller. You can't sell regular priced lunch dishes as entre sizes. Also, some dishes are instagramable, others look like the chef had a bad night out. Won't be back.

Decent dishes but also average service & atmosphere. Is it a fancy place? Is it a sports bar? Why has the well decorated dining room had the walls and roof painted pink? It was playing pop music that doesn't match the vibe.

Waited quite a while to be served.
