The Gables Restaurant reviews
73Love the new fit-out and Italian cuisine offering! A great place to spend some good time with friends and quality food & drinks.
We shared a bunch of the small plates which were all delicious! The negroni was A+ and a the kaffir lime margie was the perfect dessert. Service was prompt and polite, the servers all knew the menu and were confident about the ingredients. The refurbishment has added a fresh and cosy feel. Well done team, we look forward to coming back.
Enjoyed the food, the wine menu they give to dinners does not match the one on the website. Wait staff a bit disorganised, kept delivery wrong food to our table and others. Then they tried to charge for extra drinks we never had in the final bill. The food the atmosphere is great.
We had a lovely evening at Gables. The cocktails were great, nice food and great service. Also the views by the window are superb
Absolutely divine. The atmosphere, location, service and food. BEST gnocci I’ve ever had. Highly recommend.
The new menu, food, everything absolutely superb. A taste sensation. The platter was magnificent. The carne cruddo belissimo! The gnocchi to die for. The semifreddo to live for.
Highly recommend the confit lamb ribs - they are divine! Cocktails yummy also. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at the Gables!
We went to The Gables on a Monday evening. It was fairly Quiet.
Service was OK. The food menu is very small as is the wine list, but both were OK.
On a busier night I expect the atmosphere would be much better.
The staff were very friendly.
Just brilliant. Start to finish.
Excellent, friendly but unobtrusive service.
Great waterfront location with a table that was as close to the beach as possible, but in the shade of a tree.
Great music and the backdrop of such a lovely, historic building.
That's before you get to the amazing food.prepared perfectly, rich in flavour and very satisfying.
Highly recommend a trip here for anybody in the neighbourhood.
Delicious oysters. The guacamole needs some spices and a more generous helping of tortilla chips
Such a lovely restaurant! We were here on our last visit a few years ago and it was again excellent. You can either sit outside or inside, I would recommend a table at the window if sitting inside as it has a very beautiful view over the water.
We were seated at a long table facing an open bay window looking out onto the bay.
We had the salt and vinegar mushrooms, ceviche, venison neck and the sirloin. All were absolutely delicious. Cannot wait to visit this place again.
Very helpful staff and great beers on tap!
Great food good service nice atomosphere in this historic building. Great views over harbour. Hard to fault.
Best place in Russel for something a little more original than the basics offered everywhere else. Staff efficient and friendly, menu short but interesting. Always seemed to have seats when other (less appealing) restaurants were full, I can’t see any reason why that should be.
Lucky enough to be here the first day of the new sharing menu. Great food, lovely service, perfect waterfront location.
Excellent food, service and menu variety. Really nice being able to sit out the front right next to the water. Would come back here.
How good is this! We sat on the grass at the top of the beach looking out at the harbour. Good meal and service. Thank you.
I don't know who came up with the "shared plates" scam, but it certainly didn't work here for us. Plates were delivered sequentially instead of together and one almost forgotten. No draught beer. Offered a tin of beer instead. Poor. Warm tap water served as standard. Poor. Dishes not explained properly (I'd like to have known in advance that the calamari was crumbed.) Currently it's a pop up, but I wouldn't return anyway.
Visited the Gables when it was John's, a pop up restaurant. Food was outstanding. The whole flounder was cooked perfectly, as was the charred sweet corn and salad. Also had the best oysters during our stay in Russell
