Haukai Bistro & Bar reviews
26Expected a lot more for the price. Average as cuts of meat, cooked well & nice flavours but have had much nicer meals elsewhere in town.
This was the second time in two months that we tried Tuesday Special "Trust the Chef".
The 4 dishes were superb. Delicious fresh flavours that included ceviche, roasted duck, lamb and the bomb dessert with chocolate gannache watermelon gelato &, peanut crumble. All the main dishes were served with mouthwatering flavours from orange to celeriac, infused leek and more. The head Chef served every dish and thoroughly explained them all. Ten out of ten. We will be back.
Beautiful, flavorsome food. Steak was cooked to perfection. Banoffee pie and Snickers Cheesecake were devine. Quick efficient service and friendly staff.
We went for a Trust the Chef Tuesday 4-course meal and the food and service was fantastic. We’ll be back again!
The lamb ovation was amazing. Compliments to the chef. Service outstanding. Lucky you run a good ship. Always a pleasure to eat at the restaurant with outstanding service.
Waiter spilled tray of drinks on us; had to ask for cutlery; had to ask for water several times; desserts: pannecotta was unset and presented like curdled milk; banana tart had next to no banana and tough pastry case; coconut and carrot was a tablespoon serving. Four tables asked to leave as staff wanted to vacuum for the morning but we could relocate to the lounge only to be told we had to leave as they were closed before 10pm. Dont go to Haukai bar n bistro New Plymouth!
Had the venison bacon burger which was quite bland but still enjoyed the atmosphere and the service. Wasn't too busy and the location we sat at was very nice. It was Amanda's first day and she did an awesome job. Thanks for a Good Service Amanda.
Just want to say thank you to our server Pargat for his excellent customer service. Food was really nice to
We had lamb shanks, pork ribs and quite a few cocktails. Overall an amazing experience. We were served by the lad named Lijo who was absolutely the best with his service and great smile! Would definitely dine here again!
Naan bread stale, plain food with too much sauce, no mention that the chicken burger was spicy on menu, slow service. Manager (Ankit) was rude when I had to follow up and ask for dessert menus again.
We dined here over two nights - one eating from their standard menu and the other a Diwali Buffet Special. Both menus were absolutely delicious!
The standard menu has a great mix of up-market kiwi dishes that were fresh and in season. Of note, the Lamb Rumb was cooked to perfection and the Bannoffee Tarte was just as delicious as the pictures make it look!
We definitely made the most of their $12 Happy Hour drinks! Thanks to the lovely blonde lad behind the bar who kept the cocktails flowing - awesome service!
The Diwali Buffet Special was an absolute highlight! We stumbled on it accidentally and were so glad to have done! What great opportunity to try a selection of Indian dishes that we'd not normally order at a Curry House, including some traditional Indian desserts to finish off the night! I hope they do another night in the future, and if so I'd recommend everyone booking ahead of time to make sure you can get a table (we only just managed to squeeze in on a full house!)
A special shout out Lucky the Restaurant Manager! He certainly knows how to put on a great spread, and we look forward to dining here again at Haukai Restaurant in the future!
Went on a special Indian buffet dinner, food and menu, both were terrible. Didn’t expected such poor quality from a restaurant in hotel of such high standards
Service was lovely, food was average I'm not a salt adder usually but food was very under seasoned.
I absolutely love the food here and recommend it for anyone wanting to go. I may be a bit bias since my sister works there, but I truly enjoyed the food so much
Over priced tiny portions $28 crispy chicken burger What you get is a soggy tiny piece of chicken that is one third of the roll It could have been a slider You sit there with the sun in your eyes getting fried better than the chicken 2 meals for the price of a week's groceries I'll never go back again
Amazing food, fine selection of drinks and the service is A+. That’s why I keep coming back. Thank you.
Incredible service, waiters are wonderful.
Food could have been better. Not impressed that the Lamb Rack only came with potatoe stack, no greens. Had to order separate.
Lovely atmosphere to meet up for a drink after work. Special mention of Brylie for her enthusiastic service!
First time and last time, calamari bland, pork belly average, had heard good things About it but not mt experience.
Had breakfast here, $25 for a buffet & continental. Good range of standard kiwi breakfast food cooked well. Hygienic and presented nicely. Pancakes, waffles, pastries, bacon and eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes all that stuff. Will go again.
