Max Pennington's AutoCity reviews
60We purchased a Nissan X Trail e power. The service from Matt Jordan the salesman was excellent and that included follow up instruction and advice. We are very pleased with the car.
I inquired via email and got a reply from Maxi within an hour. We went back and forth and he was very patient with all my questions. I had my head unit replaced and a rear camera installed in my Toyota Previa. Nice unit, great deal, awesome service. Will definitely recommend Auto City New Plymouth to my friends. Very happy with their service.
Very pleased with the level of service from Auto City Electrical. The service manager and the auto electricians were very thorough in diagnosing why our car wouldn’t start and went above and beyond to sort out the issue and fix the problem.
Thoroughly recommend.
Very good friendly service with an immediate resolution to the issue presented. Also, helpful advice provided as requested. Flexible in pick up of vehicle too. Highly recommend.
There is a need for your service department at the front desk to improve there communication.
Inefficiency leads to frustration
The work on the car very good.
Good alignment service, very loyal to the customers staff's really polite, helpful and friendly. Thank you.
Booked my car in for a two hour express service, I had arranged my whole day around the two hour time frame I was told on booking. Only to arrive and be told it would be minimum 4.5-5hours and it always takes that long. False advertising and extremely inconvenient with two kids in tow. I’ve had to book in elsewhere.
Wouldn't take my car here again, as they are clearly over-charging customers for work that isn't being done. This only became evident once I questioned details at length, and based on AutoCity inadvertently divulging timelines through the course of two phone calls. Therefore I hate to think how many other unsuspecting customers are being over-charged without clear knowledge.
I asked for 2x seatbelts to be installed (an aside, but Mazda were very good in sourcing the seatbelts themselves). I was told this could take up to 4hrs or even more (2hrs per belt) @$150/hr. I said this seemed like too long and should take less than an hr per belt, perhaps as little as half an hr (for reference I had a seatbelt installed on the same van at a different mechanic and was charged for 45 mins, at a much lower hourly rate too!). I dropped my car off at 9am and asked to be contacted once their technician had looked at the vehicle, to be advised if it was indeed going to take 2hrs per belt, as I would take my car elsewhere. At 940am, I was then advised by phone that it should only take approximately 1hr per belt or ~2hrs total and I advised it would be OK to go ahead with the work. I was then phoned at 1020am and advised that the work was complete. However, that I would still be charged for 2hrs work, despite less than an hrs work being done on the vehicle and despite the vehicle only having been physically at AutoCity Mazda for around 1hr and 20 mins.
I disupted this (in a nice way) and said that how can I be charged for 2hrs work when you havent even had my car for 1.5hrs and that you could have only realistically done 1hr's work on it installing the seatbelt, supported by the timing of phone calls. I was then somewhat condescendingly asked 'are you a businessman and do you understand how businesses work? ', to which I simply kept my mouth shut. I was told that its basically too bad and I have to pay for the 2hrs of cost (which was provided as an estimate), even though the actual work done was only around 1hr. I was also told 'that is how businesses work', if we are good enough and quick enough to do the job in 1hr, but we have quoted you 2hrs as a rough estimate, then we will charge you for 2hrs.
I am a businessman and I understand how businesses work, having owned a few over the years. Companies charging for work they clearly haven't done is akin to fraud, or at least very deceptive and unethical. Its not a large amount of money for me and that isnt the issue, its the principle of what this business is clearly doing is wrong.
Therefore, I wouldnt waste your time taking your car here. With inflation and costs of living increasing, the least people can afford is to be paying good money for work that isnt actually being done.
Bought a Haval H6. Mike one of the salesmen has been fantastic to deal with. I was in Tauranga and gave him a date to pick up the car it was ready at that time just sign a few papers and then was ready to ride the car.awesome service and car.
Just had the first service check on our Mitsubishi Outlander completed at Hawera Auto City which was carried out professionally. All went as expected and price was reasonable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would recommend Auto City.
Such an easy process to have my Mazda serviced last week - from booking in with Aaron, drop off (and pickup of lovely Triton loan vehicle!) to collection - office ladies are always friendly and helpful - and loved that guys had given my car a quick clean - much appreciated
It is the first time I used Hawera AutoCity for servicing my car. Staff are polite, friendly, very professional and helpful. Was pleased and impressed especially how they were handling things as it was Level 3 of lockdown. Will definitely go back and highly recommend!
July, 2022. Has been yet to another service. Each time am pleasantly impressed by the attention to detail, how comprehensive the service is and that it is always done well before agreed time and at a high quality. Well done, team!
Took my Mazda 3 into Hawera Autocity for a 60.000Km service 2 hours later picked up the car nice and clean and a full report on the condition of brake pads and rotors. Excellent
Bought a Kia Stonic through them and the follow up service has been exceptional. Tony one of the salesmen has been fantastic to deal with. We were in the south island when we gave Tony the date that we would like to pick up the Kia. Arrived back in the Naki every thing was done and ready to drive away. Just two things to be done, sign some papers and pell back the black Silk cloth from our new pride and joy.
Had some questions re my Mazda CX-3. All answered to my satisfaction. Great team at reception and at collection. Lovely clean car too! Drives like a double dream now!

After purchasing my Mazda 3 at AutoCity Hawera I have been returning for servicing to the car. Communications with the team are casual and easy and my car is treated well and in a timely manner. I appreciate the reminders re servce and WOF due dates. And I love that they wash my car after they are done. There's nothing more I could ask for.
I have just moved to Hawera, and took my Holden Integra to Autocity for a WoF, the service was first class, friendly and efficient
The team is very helpful.
They fixed my car in a reasonable price.
Highly recommended
I took my vehicle for a service to the Hawera branch. Everyone was very helpful picked my car up from work and delivered it back when completed. I was able to pay online. My car looked great when returned as it had been cleaned and polished. It was an effortless process for me.
