The interiors are lovely but that’s all. Not family friendly, average service and average food. Very disappointed.

This is the first time I have visited Monica's Eatery but it won't be the last. Fantastic food and a beautiful setting. So close to everything. Monica's Eatery is a must visit for anyone visiting New Plymouth

Awful food, service & coffee.
This place used to be great! No longer.
They do not allow any menu adaptions to cater for dietary requirements. Staff are unfriendly, arrogant & generally dismissive.
Chef is arrogant & can't deliver great food, it was all over salted & over cooked.
My recommendation is that you take your money & go somewhere else. New Plymouth has lots of wonderful place to eat & drink. Sadly this isn't one of them

Nobody served us until we asked if it was counter service after 30mins waiting. Food came long after we had finished our coffees. Scrambled Eggs were over-seasoned
and overcooked.

Hands down one of the best cafe/breakfast I’ve had in NZ! Great coffee, and even better food - enjoyed every bite of my crumpet with the mascarpone and maple! Also the interior of the cafe is very quaint and pretty

Best food and coffee ever, and the staff were welcoming, helpful and respectful, the vibe was awesome and the hanging ferns are amazing.

Had lunch here on our first day in New Plymouth. We had such a good experience that we returned again the next day. Highlight was definitely the flat bread that was served with the fried chicken. Good and friendly service.

Lovely vibe and decor! But we waited 45mins for food which wasn’t what we ordered. They were fast to correct but bread was a bit stale. We had high expectations from the Neat Places guide.

Beautiful interior with all the plants. They add a real ambiance. Service was slow and needed prompting several times. A bit of back chat from a waitron wasn't cool. Unimpressed with the Kedgeree.hardly any zing and the Salsa Verde on top was all wrong for that dish. Needs rethinking. My partner had the pea fritters which were "OK" but a tad pricey for the dish. I had asked for a spicy tomato drink. Not spicy at all - a token sprinkle of pepper and that's it I think. Shame cos it is a nice setting.the good news is there are better eateries in New Plymouth

Dined in yesterday for a late lunch. Whilst the cappuccino was good, both food items (pasta & falafel salad) were far too salty and therefore we were only able to have one bite of each item. To make things worse, the “clean” fork had not been cleaned properly as it had scraps of food on it. Also, the glasses had an horrible smell to them. Overall, $55 down the drain for a very disappointing and offputting lunch.

Possibly the best breakfast I've ever had. Truly. I'm usually an eggs person, but the harissa tofu scramble on a toasted bagel with house-made mixed pickles has forever changed my perspective (and raised my expectations for what a breakfast should be to an absolutely unmanageable level, haha) and the orange, carrot, turmeric and ginger juice was wildly fresh and juicy with a perfect balance of flavours. I'd eat here everyday if I could. Unreal.

Nice setting and friendly staff but the food is completely tasteless. The prawns were clearly not fresh

Absolutely Devine. This place was recommended to us by local friends and it turns out we’ve been before a few years ago. Both times have been great!
They were super busy due to the tattoo festival but held their smiles and were very accommodating.
Will definitely come again next time we’re around.
We had the scrumptious Florentine and eggs Benedict - Bloody Mary which had great spice - carrot juice was so refreshing - coffee was good and the vanilla chai was quite mild tasting but still good.

Lovely light and modern decor, friendly staff. Small peak view of the sea from corner table.

I ordered a flat white and meal with potato rosti, poached eggs, spinach and mushroom on half a muffin.

The food was so salty it was awful. Nobody came to check I was happy with my meal.

I tried to ascertain which part of the meal all the salt was in by tasting one different thing at a time.

The rosti was salty. The muffin was the saltiest! The mushrooms and spinach also too much salt. I passed on my feedback which was well received and the waitress said she would inform the chef.

My flat white was so full to the top of the brim, that drips dropped onto my white pants which I attempted to clean with a serviette dipped in my glass of water. It failed and I was unable to wear them for rest of my 2 day stay and were the only pants I had with me. Very annoying!

I wanted something sweet to get rid of the salty taste. I ordered a small piece of chocolate brownie. It was served with a spoon and unsweetened greek yoghurt which was too sour to eat with the very sweet rich brownie.

The brownie crumbled into smitherings making it impossible to eat. I had to pick up bits with my thumb and finger to consume any. Once again nobody came to check I was happy and bits of brownie trying to get it off my fingers with a wet serviette dropped onto my pants too

Not a great start to my recharge break away.

The coffee was also mediocre in flavour.

I went to pay my bill and was charged for the salty meal.

Apparantly this place was rated a local's favourite ‍️ Not if you're a foodie, I wouldn't rate it at all apart from the decor and friendly service.

The best high end breakfasts, great coffee, orange juice. So good we went 2 days in a row while visiting New Plymouth. Superb spot beside the art gallery. Excellent prompt service.

Great friendly service. Really Yummy eggs/bacon Benedict! Would be one of the best I’ve had, everything was cooked perfectly!

Cute little cafe, 5 stars to one of the servers. She said her name was jah? Amazing hospitality kindest person had a wonderful conversation with her, made it a little special because we were able to conversate in Māori which made my day even more.

Very busy place I have been told the must-come eatery in New Plymouth. Waited for thousands years to get the food during the public holiday but very nice service there. And remember to take eftpos card cuz they don’t take paywave.
