The Courthouse Cafe reviews
63Fantastic little café where great food and drinks are served by lovely people who will accommodate any reasonable request. Went twice, once for coffee and once for lunch but beware, it's so good it can get very busy at peak times!
Terrible experience after 30 minutes wait it was clear the didn't have a clue that we had ordered coffee and paid for it.it became apparent to us that we had been completely missed when people came in and got their order very quickly, after being told that it would be seen to instantly we awaited expecting our coffee to arrive next. No still didn't arrive so asked for a refund and left, they didn't even give an apology.
Even if we came back to Collingwood I would never go back again
Terrible service can't even rate it with a single star.
Great place to grab some lunch on our travels. Very tasty food. Friendly service. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.
Based on the good reviews we decided to stop at the Courthouse Cafe for lunch, however we were extremely disappointed, and left feeling hungry and rather ripped off. I ordered the Mussel Chowder $23 and Gnocchi $20, along with 2 winter juices at $9 each.
The Mussel Chowder arrived as a fairly good sized portion, with a slice of sourdough bread on the side. However, the Gnocchi turned out to be approx 9 very small pieces of potato sitting in a slightly burnt buttery oily sauce, served in a cereal bowl (albeit an upmarket one). The microgreens sitting on top of the Gnocchi turned out to be a larger than the actual portion of Gnocchi! The description on the menu was light potato dumplings, which is nothing like the Luke warm lumpy potato I was served.
When comparing value for money to the price I paid for the Mussel Chowder there was no comparison. I know food prices have gone up, but surely butter isn't that expensive that it justifies $20 for such a small serving, sitting in a little buttery oily sauce? Would I recommend going back? No, which is a shame as the cafe is in a lovely historic building.
Lovely atmosphere, delicious food, love the use of local pottery.
The one downside is paying for a Twinings teabag Especially when you see the lovely tea tins full of leaf tea on the shelf.
One other critique is that not all the cabinet food was labelled and certainly not priced. Thus we had no idea what everything cost, but spent a little over $50 for 2x hot drinks, 2x cold drinks, 2x cakes and 2x pastries.
This place is an absolute gem. Delicious food, really friendly service, great kids area with a playhouse (in view from the tables inside) and really nice setting.
The pies are absolutely delicious, really nice brunch and the fresh pressed juices are divine. Collingwood is lucky to have such a great outlet and even open 7 days!
A great spot for breakfast! So interesting to see the history behind the cafe and the place really does have a lot of charm. I found the staff to be very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The food is absolutely delicious, cooked perfectly and well presented. Very filling and the meal sizes are very generous! Definitely well worth a visit if you're looking for a great meal in a unique spot.
Unexpected, such a beautiful cafe! So cozy and comfy to sit, chill music and people. Delish stuff on a menu.
Totally loved cinamon buns, best I had so far in here. (Nearly didnt manage to take a photo). Will surely be looking forward to come back!
Great cafe with a proper coffee, not just warm flavoured milk.
The slices were delicious and we'll priced.
I couldn't believe after have 2 hot drinks and 2 lovely slices of fresh fruit flavoured pastries that I only paid what I did. So cheap.
Highly recommend.
Great location
This is an excellent cafe with the best coffee I have had in years. Friendly staff and a beautiful old building with interesting art works on the walls and a wealth of plants.
Lovely Café with a beautiful garden. The cinnamon roll is the best I had in New Zealand. Very friendly service!
Reliable, good coffee. I’m grateful to have a cup of nice coffee while staying at the campground nearby. Recommend their Flat white!
Loved the food and beverages here and especially appreciated the setting of a former courthouse
The perfect place for coffee and a morning treat! Lunch is good too!
The coffee is great and you’ll want to bring your own cup if you need to take away your coffee — they’re eco conscious and do not use disposable wares ️
Way to go!
Unexpectedly awesome at (nearly) the end of the road. Great coffee. Friendly folks. Didn't have a meal but wish we did based on the look of the plates coming out.
Super friendly staff (even at the end of their shift on a Sunday!) and great food. Not often I visit a cafe two times in the same day. Thanks for adding to our day exploring along the coast.
Great little place. They do an awesome strong flat white, the staff were lovely, and the counter food looks yummy.
I go to the Courthouse cafe often, it's the best cafe in the Bay, the service is amazing, friendly and the food is bloody good.oh forgot the coffee its one of the main reans I go there.lol.thanks so much everyone
First time visit today, coffee was perfect, vegetarian croissant was the most delicious croissant I’ve ever had, can’t fault anything. Perfect
Yeah nah, some staff seem to be of the opinion they don’t have to protect you as a customer by not wearing a mask. Then I see another review here that they were short staffed because of covid…. Well Duh
