The Grove Scenic Reserve reviews
44A hidden gem in a tourist Mecca! So easy to get to, and such an accessible walk! I'm only a couple of months out from a broken femur and had no trouble at all.
Absolutely fantastic local geology gem. Worth a visit for sure. Some formations are breathtaking as are the trees. Reminded me of Ankor Wat forest in a way.
Recommended.
Short walk with a nice lookout at the end. Would not go out of my way to visit here but was an ok stop on the way to other sights.
I did this walk last year while on a road trip, and can highly recommend stopping here. The track is not to hard, and has many interesting spots where you want to take photos. A narrow chasm leads to a lookout over the farm land. The walk is between lovely trees, almost like a jungle in spots, with the large limestone and granite boulders. You can do the walk in 20 minutes or less if you rush, but well worth spending more time, and enjoying the scenery.
Just a short path through stunning rock formations. Behold the natural beauty of the area in just a few minutes. Clean and lovely walk
It seems many many years ago a huge pile of huge boulders were piled up at this spot. Time and evolution has allowed jungle like vegetation to flourish. Today you have a loop walk which winds its way up through the boulders and plants. At the highest elevation there is a lookout over the river flats and estuary. You can comfortly walk this track in an hour. What a place to take youngsters and their imaginations. This is a special place among these huge boulders to enjoy an hour and ponder the marvel of nature
Awesome little hike - only took about 20 minutes to do the loop. There’s a nice look out over the farmers fields and you can see the mountains in the distance and the sea.
The rock formations here are beautiful and it’s filled with various palms!
It feels like being transported back in time a million years!
Definitely worth the quick stop in
Lovely place, lots to see the gorgeous natural woodlands the rock formations and of course the birdlife
Nice short loop track around some interesting rock formations. Nothing special but a fine spot to spend 20 minutes having a look around
Easily accessible short track through some towering rock formations. It’s more of a sightseeing spot, not really a hike, but definitely worth it.
Absolutely phenomenal. Awe inspiring. There's was a fantail following us and playing around us.
Beautiful! It looks like a labyrinth, the rocks are surrounded by nature that surrounds them creating a surreal atmosphere.
What an amazing place. Nikau, silver fern, the odd huge tree, couldn't see the tops, hard to identify. Lovely 15min walk to lookout towards Farewell Spit.
Well worth a visit. There's even a sleeping dragon. Administered by DOC, free entry
Great place to visit. Amazing bush walk through rata and nikau palm forest amongst incredible rock formations. There's a wonderful lookout over Golden Bay as well. Free and easy to get to, with parking. It's a well spent half hour.
Awesome walk even my nan enjoyed it and she's old. I found a secret place and the cave is cool. My nan didn't like all the stairs but she said it was good cardio workout Tyler 9years old
My host at Pohara Beach Top 10 described it as, it's like "Jurassic Park" without the Dinosaurs! He was right. It was an awesome walk, with so much to see. I preferred this over the Labyrinth Rocks, if you had to choose one only. The natural rock formations were amazing
Wicked spot for a small gathering to BBQ and explore. A little more.freedom here than Labyrinth Rocks, where children can hide and play. Amazing views out towards Pohara Estuary at the lookout point that makes you feel like you are walking to Mordor
Great easy walk, not too long. Awesome scenery, kids loved it because it reminded them of where dinosaurs live.
A lovely walk through typical NZ bush with an awesome view across the paddocks and bay. Easy walking for all abilities
This is only a 30min walk and fun for the whole family. Huge rock formations "out of this world". Almost expected a tyrannosaurus to appear out of the giant nikau palms! Just an incredible walk unlike anything I've seen in NZ. A MUST!
