The Stables Tavern & Restaurant reviews
65We came for dinner but it was so expensive and looking at pictures of the meals it is definitely not worth it, we just had a drink and left
Amazing service and even went above and beyond to change up a meal for me. Very friendly staff and great food.
Average menu nothing special, service waitress was pleasant enough, but forgot water on tables
A cosy little pub and restaurant in central Richmond. Consistently good food and friendly service. Outdoor seating at the front is great in fine weather or summer. Outdoor seating at the rear is great all year round. A good selection of beer, both on tap and in the bottle, along with a wide selection of wines, spirits, coffee, tea and other non alcoholic beverages.
Really good cooked breakfast. Gas heater still broken so a bit cold but awsum staff as well.
Amazing platters for staff doo. So much variety and lots of it. Gluten free options available. Well priced. Thanks team
Great food, excellent service, fair and very reasonable prices, an enjoyable experience, easy parking and access, will be back to have another great time, cheers stu and carolyn
Cosy friendly venue.waitress was well informed engaging and friendly. Food was yummy. Fun evening
This was such a gem of a find in Richmond! The food was absolutely delicious and one of the best meals we've had in New Zealand! The service was so attentive so we always felt looked after. Definitely check it out if you're in the area!
Service was outstanding but my meal wasnt i ordered the seafood chowder and it was more like some sort of soup, it had 2 mussels and then potato and other vegetables hardly even tasted of seafood very disappointing
Popped in for a meal and to watch the Chiefs against the Blues, great meals, friendly chatty staff.
The Stables Tavern & Restaurant in Richmond seemed like a good traditional style English pub. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. They have a very good selection of craft beers and other drinks. The venue has nice indoor and outdoor spaces. We didn't eat there, so can't comment on the food. I would go there again if I was in the area.
It is the night before our daughters fly back to their cities of residence, so a perfect opportunity to go out for a bite!
We sat down and chatted out our options, and what each of us felt like eating (A common dilemma!) and through previous experience and some recommendations we came up with The Stables in Richmond.
When we entered the venue we were greeted by a busy room, with a few people standing around enjoying their after work drinks. A good jovial atmosphere.
There were also plenty of staff, and we were seated promptly.
Once drinks were ordered we settled down to peruse the menu, and found a number of items which suited our moods for the night.
Pork Ribs - These were very tender (perhaps a little too soft) and the sauce could have been a little sweeter, but overall these were enjoyed and the plate was left only containing bones. The side was a coleslaw.
Smoked Chicken and Mushroom Carbonara - This was delicious. The pasta seemed to be made in the kitchen, and was cooked to perfection. The chicken and mushroom was flavoured well and cooked nicely. Perhaps a little more sauce, but this is a personal preference.
Chicken Salad - This was a child sized serving, but was ample for an early 20s lady! The salad was really good with some amazing flavour and fresh vegetables. The chicken was cooked and flavoured well.
Southern Chicken with Potatoes fried in Duck fat - The chicken was cooked well, being nice and moist, and the southern coating was good with a bit of fire from the pepper. The potatoes were a star of the night with all having a taste and smiling at the experience.
We also had a seafood platter - this consisted of 4 Mussels, cooked well. A cold smoked salmon fillet. Salt and Pepper Calamari. Prawns in a seafood mayonnaise. Deep fried fish and a couple of sauces. This was a great starter with everything cooked well and with fresh produce.
Overall it was a good pub meal experience. The price was good and the food was good. We will be back!
Our waitress Kez was outstanding her attention and service to us was faultless. Her recommendation was spot on and the meal was delicious. Highly recommended The Stables
Amazing Food and atmosphere. The door was all fresh and from what I could tell all made in house. The seafood chowder was beautiful and creamy while still being full of seafood and was served with fresh hose made bread.
So good.
Stoped in for fries and bowl of wedges food served pipping hot with sauces and nicely seasoned waiter friendly and coffee was hot thanks for a successful lunch will be back
Tasty dinner on a wet and windy night. Food well presented and well cooked. Friendly staff. Has historical links to early Richmond.
Very impressed by the food our group of 8 had. Everyone was raving about how good it was. I had pork belly, was delicious. Service was excellent also.
I ate at The Stables tonight for the first time, and I'm sad to say I was not impressed. I ordered the Southern Fried Chicken with Slaw & Roasted Duck Fat Potatoes, the full size serving for $33, which was rather disappointing. It came with a very small portion of slaw, and they literally gave me 4 tiny half pieces of potato. The portions of fried chicken was ok I guess, it wouldn't have been so bad if the slaw and potatoes weren't so minuscule, and the chicken was quite dry, it could've used some gravy or dipping sauce. The food was tasty, there just wasn't enough of it, I was left still feeling hungry afterwards and literally went home to cook some food. I can only imagine how tiny the half portion is! Overall, a disappointing dining experience. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so expensive, but I doubt I will return.
Friendly staff and a chef who checks in to ensure all is well with the meal he just cooked you. The only pub I have found where the house Pinot Noir is kinda tasty
