Wharariki Beach Carpark reviews
14Wow! Great short hike to the epic Wharariki Beach. Travelers must see and experience. I went in the evening a had a wonderful sunset.
Absolutely loved this place. The carpark has a cafe with loads of refreshments. Sandpit and some toys for the kids. A friendly peacock and ducks. Nice to hydrate before u start the walk upto the beach.
Worth the trip and short walk. A beautiful beach so take jangles or go bare foot but it is only half the experience if you can not get your feet wet.
Disappointing as Cafe is closed, but all signage leading up to it saying OPEN.was dying for a coffee, would have had one before we left if we knew. Change the signage please.
Beautiful walk. You start from the car park, signboard showing 20mins one way, not really, you can get there in 10 unless you stop for pictures. Its a beautiful walk all the way. And one you reach the beach, you will be mesmerised by it beauty. If you would like to see some beautiful pictures head to my page on Instagram. @fotostrokes. Its the most beautiful beach you will ever come across.
The actual walk was amazing, certainly a must do. We did the 20 min walk which suited us. It was so beautiful and the beach gorgeous. We had a good day so no sand in our eyes! A downside was the toilets I think DOC ones. They had 2 of our party coming out dry retching! We have done a lot of travelling and seen a lot of bad toilets.might be time for them to have a clean up/out!
Interesting - but "New Zealand's best beach" is a gross exaggeration. Worth a look though. Visited 8: 30 am 1 hour after low tide. Saw no seals, no sea birds; just a huge seascape.
Second time here. Amazing place! Enjoyed watching baby seals from a distance and exploring caves at low tide. Love it!
This beach is one of those magic spots in NZ and to see the seal pups, at low tide playing in the pools, is what makes this place extra special.
Lovely tiny cafe here with ice cream and snacks. Car park was packed tho! It's a dirt road to get in so make sure your car is high and hardy.
A slightly longer walk than stated but well worth it. Seals lazing about and sand dunes that seems to go on forever!
A well placed car park at the bottom of a dusty gravel road (not the best for a camper can but we managed it) however a cute cafe on the side is a perfect welcome back after the walk to and from the beach and dunes which takes about 30 minutes each way. Don’t let that put you off, you will be well rewarded by the views, dunes, sand sea and other wildlife at this corner of the South Island.
There are seals so take care where you are going as they take a break in all the rocky nooks. Lovely to see. The car park itself has space for probably 40 cars / vans. There is also a camp site just 500m down the road.
The beach is amazing. Don't bring shoes, they'll just get full of sand. The toilet is a bit feral.
This is one of those hidden locations tucked away in the remote top west coast of the south island. Head to farewell spit then head west to Wharariki beach. If you are lucky you may even see the seal pups. The wind swept beach and rock formations are amazing.
